- The Music you’re hearing is called swing, it is the soundtrack to a dance called the Jitterbug.
Jitterbugging developed from dances preformed my African Americans in Juke joints and dance halls. I think the whole world will be watching the first ever unveiling of the famous jitterbug scene.
It was originally filmed for Victor Fleming’s 1939 ‘Wizard of Oz,’ but was later cut from the movie. The footage was never recovered and was lost forever and never recovered.
It is now restored here in full color.
Gregg Turkington, (Founder, Victorville Film Archive/ Co-Host, On Cinema At The Cinema) is a certified “Oz Expert” and has recreated this lost scene for movie buffs everywhere. IT’S MOVIE TIME!!!!
This requires 7 levels of context and a paid subscription to understand
This isn’t bull shit either yall.
Yeah but once you get all that this feels like total ego death
Welcome to being a smarty pants
It's pretty simple. Greg loves movies
late stage comedy
Seeing Gregg this happy is horrifying
it should b illegal
No person deserves happiness less than Greg. His shitty van almost cost Tim his life, and it cost Manuel his ability to speak normal
Not as illegal as killing twenty kids
@@WintersNstuff holy fuck, I was out of the on cinema loop for 2 years. What happened?!
@@dmitrytimofeevsky7079 life, death, love, heartbreak, animosity and reconciliation. The main takeaway is that Tim is the hero and victim of this story
I'm glad I made a room of five people with no On Cinema knowledge watch the entirety of Deck of Cards. Everyone was so lost
Greg is so dedicated to the craft that he even quizzes his actors. Just like Quinten Tarantino!
Quinten Tarantino! From?
@@dylanjoseph583 the right answer is Kramer VS. Kramer. which was actually a sort of unofficial prequel to Reservoir Dogs.
Just realized Gregg's explanation is taken straight out of the wikipedia page of Jitterbug 😆😆
"Early history
Jitterbugging developed from dances performed by African-Americans at juke joints and dance halls.[16] The Carolina shag and single Lindy Hop dances formed the basis of the jitterbug, which gave way to the double Lindy Hop when rock and roll became popular."
I was wondering that and searched the wiki when I saw him reading 😂 so good
It’s probably because they took Gregg’s insights and found them useful for the Jitterbug page. They obviously can’t use just anybody’s explanation though because Wikipedia requires that you cite only the most knowledgeable experts.
Gregg is just that smart, he knows exactly where to go for hobbyist and or historical informationes. What I love about Gregg is he puts a bit of himself into every character. Reading from the Wikipedia entry on the jitterbug? A pure Klingston move right there.
I feel like I'm tripping everytime I watch this scene. 5 bags of popcorn and a friend to talk me through it.
I thought I was the only one. Acid flashbacks of an intense nature. 5 bags and I might add a little dancing bug to represent the jitterbug
And don't forget one copy of 'Dark Side of The Moon' to sync up with.
This is a powerful scene for all Oz-heads
Oz head here and I just gotta say I also loved this and I did rejoice
@@refoliation I never stopped rejoicing since I first saw it
I'm positive leaking with incontinence
The neat thing is that watching the clip converts non ozheads to ozheads immediately.
Oscer is going to be smiling, no...*grinning and clapping* when he sees this movie. This is definitely going to give The Hobbit movies a run for their money come awards season!
This is the kind of next level entertainment the world needs. Gregg manages to combine a compelling plot, world-class cinematography and an excellent score with his trademark expertise. Oscer, it's time to come home to the VFA
this aspect ratio is professional Hollywood at its finest
Nice detail that the Joker character is also a movie buff just like the actor Gregg Turkington. Art imitates life!
A nice tip of the cap
The Jocker strikes again!
Gregg’s commitment to film history and preservation is commendable
I don't know how they managed to get the budget to shoot this scene, especially with the Cameron-esque CGI, but oh man... This is why I'm a Greghead.
1:24 the face everyone makes when I try to explain On Cinema to them.
Just when you think Mark has plumbed the depths for this nuanced performance he keeps going deeper. Astonishing. Gregg was ok, too.
I think a real oz head would appreciate the nuance gregg brings to this staging & choreography… mark was fine but i feel like he “broke” near the end. not very professional for a working impressionist
This is one for Oz-heads, Arthur-heads, and Gregg-heads. 👏
Don’t forget the 2 of diamond-heads! ♦️ ♦️
There was definitely also a nice little tip of the hat in there to hobbit-heads
Viva el Ozcer!
And mummy heads
@@jackstraw262 sorry, you're so right!
Man what an epic scene..most fans are probably to entertained to even realize they were given a course in film history during this scene!
Only true Gregg fanatics can appreciate this. The man is truly in the same vein as legendary directors like Orson Wells, Stanley Kubrick, and Tim Heidecker. Keep up the great work Gregg. Your date with Oscar is just around the corner.
God, what a dire prophecy
Greggheads are delusional
Orson Welles, FROM…
The claps still echo in my brain, thats how powerful this original scene was.
It was original when Oz did it. This is a remake.
Better than Hollywood. Great editing. Great directing. Great acting when it's needed. Just great.
A movie buff’s delight
“………..Alright…..let’s uh..keep our eye on how many of those we do.”
I had to run it back several times to see the cut between this and the actual movie cut scene. A near flawless recreation. The audio really brings this version into the lead though.
One of the movie scenes in history.
Who is the actor with the hat on the right side of the screen? He’s been giving such an incredible performance. I know Brendan Fraser has been getting a lot of Oscar buzz but I think this mystery man could be the write-in favorite in 2023.
He had some Fred Astaire-cum-Paula Abdul moves goin on
dudlee more!! from?
I haven't slept right since seeing this.
Feels good to finally see the famous jitterbug scene that I both knew about and also hadn’t yet seen!
Oscar: "this is the best scene ever" mark my words
Finally some eye candy in the On Cinema universe! Mummy's don't usually do it for me but that hottie is pulling it off! What is the name of that saucy little devil?
Mark Porch
W.C. Fields.
Ass Oscar
I like this music. It's....
I'm a little high right now, so this is literally the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Wow.. this has to be the first time I ever see this recreated exactly as it was originally shot by MGM Studios
Believe it or not, one of those characters was completely computer generated!
He almost looked like Tom Cruise Heidecker Jr. as a young adult. If only things had been different.
Flawless. Hollywood, take note.
This have the unintentional The Requiem for a Dream vibe. Genius :)
I am just now seeing this?? Why have I not subscribed to HEI network?!? All my time I could have watched this masterpiece of phlegm! All hail Oscer and his favorite buff!
Nice to see Greg finally being allowed to shine without Tim’s ego dragging him down. Mark however clearly needs an attitude adjustment. Unfortunately, Tim is the only one capable of managing that.
I bet Tim wishes he could have been in this awesome movie moment with you Gregg! Too bad he burned that bridge, Tim Liedecker I call him! Thanks Gregg. #bringbackmovies
Authentic recreation of a period piece.Bravo! 👏
This is a five bagger for sure! And, I’m going nuts with this, two sodas!
Great segment
Can't see any difference between the two cuts. Amazing.
Seeing this so faithfully reenacted gives me hope. You have such spirit. More ‘lost footage’ please. There is nine hours of Greed missing.
This is a love letter to motion picture history. Bravo Gregg, Bravo!
"DECK" of Cards. Curious.
truly, the most important piece of cinema since Citizen Kane
This movie is perfection from start to end
Is that Tom Cruise Heidecker?
Christina Calph, who plays Queen of Hearts, was in a short film called Queen of Hearts in 2017. Is that something she told Gregg on the Oscar special a few years back when they were in that car? (I can't remember if that's something she mentioned -- if so, then that's the germination of the Deck of Cards idea)
Good work, gumshoe.
Mark steals the scene again.
I’ve got the Oscer fever. Amazing.
I imagine this scene will be shown before DOC is given it’s OSCER
Wow such storytelling, it actually put me to sleep!
Fun fact: that real horse is actually a product of high level CGI. it takes a true moviegoers keen eye to notice this though so I don’t blame you guys for not noticing it as fast as I did
A true classic of cinema
I need to edit this into my Oz VHS copy.
Give greg turkington a budget for a full length feature film and we will all be terrified.
The actress character really seems like she was forced to be here it makes the scene so uncomfortable
Fuck is wrong with that horse bro 😭😭😭
I would not recommend watching this on acid
Watching this without audio is so much worse holy god
Time will tell, when the history books are written as to how ground breaking this reconstruction was. I'm not sure people have truly appreciated it yet.
Next level
'Avatar' is OBVIOUSLY CGI....but 'Deck of Cards'....it's honestly impossible to tell. I hope Jim Cameron is taking notes.
Wow I lov that scene from wizard of Oz
I learned a lot.
Is that Fergie!?
us ozz head were waiting for this for years
Am I dead yet
That hack just read Wikipedia verbatim. #CuffTheBuff
Impressive
This took me back to my childhood and then drove off to ‘get some smokes.’
Thank god this disgrace was put to rest
Poor Mark...
Oh the jitter... oh the bug.
Greg plays Virgil in Dante’s Divine Comedy 🎭
I have this on vhs
I'm so lost...
Then I recommend that you follow the famous “Yellow Brick Road” from…? The Wizard of Oz, the one starring…? Judy Garland!
2:22 Dudley representing what my soul does when I watch this
From?
i'm gonna be honest, i can see why tim has the right to strike mark for any given reason. how didn't he know about the jitterbug scene?
This is exactly as it what was created by MGM studios ! Oz heads can finally rejoice !!
Gregg needs to stop pining over Kylee and ask out the lovely queen of Harts. Maybe it's just the exciting music, but you can see a lot of romantic chemistry between them in this scene. Plus, we know she's a big Arthurhead, so they already have a lot in common.
why is there a mummy? ANd why is that girl behind a horse?
from?
and?
Oscer-worthy performance
Dance mom Gregg 💃👏🏻
is that TCHJ? he's so handosme
Is that Tom Cruise Jr. stealing the show from beyond the grave?
Orange mocha frapuccinoooo
Too bad the scene was cut. And if Buddy Ebsen hadn't stepped down he would have nailed that scene!!!!!!
That's not how it goes in the cut scene
Mark’s energy was very LOW in this scene
five bags.
The W of OZ original cut is laterally making me sick......WTF.
I honestly feel like she was abusing that dog.
What is this from? I want to see the whole thing
Deck of Cards on the Hei Network
All you Gregheads in these comments infuriate me. Greg’s movie will never be true cinema. Everything about him and his “movie” is a Disgrace and Offront to the arts. I am irate with righteous fury.
This was painful to watch
It's supposed to be
You’re just a Tim Head hater
Probably listens to DKR
@@tmwproductions3685 I know.
I pay 5.99 a month for this
Boring!
Just wish Greg hadn't worn the hat with a green tail.
No, lmao its what makes this even more funny, in a disastrous way
I didn't see any green tail.
