I was turned on to this song/album in high school 73 or74, and was BLOWN AWAY as this was far superior to anything else out there in the cutting edge category. Use to have 5-6 LP's and noone knew who the hell they were. What a crime!
I think there's something in my eye...no, its a tear shed for this crazy genius, who the current crop of underwhelming wannabes will never, ever come close to. R.I.P. Alex
I had never heard of Alex Harvey, but got free second row seats at the Akron Civic Theatre (Ohio), so went for the heck of it. My first impression was. "Who is this old geezer?". As it turns out, it was one of the most energetic and entertaining shows I have ever seen. A great band and Alex Harvey was just plain awesome.
saw the in Cleveland,Ohio 9/74 - outstanding show. They had bagpipes and female backup singers for ANTHEM,outrageously GOOD. Alex really knew how to put together a band and stage show. A top five show in all my years of Cleveland concert going...
Brilliant! I saw the band at Birmingham Town Hall in the 70s and particularly remember Alex singing under a lamppost dressed in a raincoat but couldn't remember the song he was singing so this is a great find! Such a great show, the music and theatricals, they were so unique.
The Cleveland Agora had ALL of the good acts: Bowie, Springsteen, etc... A lot of careers were launched there; That's why CLE is the Rock-n-Roll Capital of the World!!!
Alex is finally getting the recognition that he didn't get when he was alive... thanks to youtube. I'm just so glad that there was so much 'video' of The SAHB left to see. The other bonus is that Zal Cleminson is being heard too... an awesome guitar 'personality' :)~~~
It’s “Story Time” with Alex Harvey& The Sensational Alex Harvey Band ! Zal , if You’re Out There,,, Bring this Back to Amaze the Worlds’Stages ! What a SHOW !!! A REALLY, REALLY BIG SHOW !!! The BEST !
J.Brel/B.Brecht/Ziegfeld Follies on psychedelics Cabaret went over a lot of people's heads in North America. Too hard-rock for Bowie/Iggy/Lou Reed/Stones,Warholite Artsies. Too Artsy for most American Rock n Rollers. Saw them twice,Incredible live show! The Historical bridge between Screaming Lord Sutch,Atomic Rooster,Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Alice Cooper,Kiss,The Tubes, and by proxy M. Manson, Gwarr etc. Great LP's,"The Impossible Dream","Next","Framed",Tomorrow Belongs to Me",& "Live".
Wow, Zal is incredible on guitar, out of all the bands i grew up with in the 70's SAHB is one of the few i still listen to all the time! I threw out my Tedious Led Zeppelin, and Rush lps years ago!
Greatest live band ever.Saw them 12 times, really underated.Christmas eve New Victoria London, finest hour. Brian May and some of Queen watching and learning in the wings. ( catch the user name , how sad)
I haven't heard this song in 30 years and I still remember every word to it. I wore this record out and bought at least two more copies. Damn this was/is great shit
It says something that they had an excellent full-on guitarist, painted as a clown, a collection of other stellar musicians - none of them shrinking violets - and Alex was never once up-staged. They were a fantastic band. Every one of them brought something unique to the mix.
Saw them 5 times in the 70's - they were awesome, and my friends and I actually met Aex himself. Those were the days. Still have a pile of SAHB vinyl in the garage.
One of my few regrets in life is not seeing this man in concert. I've seen Zappa,Pink Floyd,Iggy, all more than once, the Plasmatics at CBGB's,Lou Reed at the Bottom Line ,the Four Tops in a Detroit bar,...etc.and so on. But never saw the SAHB. Take note,do it while you can.
@meeknote364 i saw him supporting the Who,someone chucked a can of beer at him ,and he caught it.opened it up ,had a swig ,and said cheers.....Brilliant!
and you see why any artist of any kind that was into rock music would go to see Alex because he did one of the best live shows in the music business back in the early 70's, and this shows Zal at his best playing killer lead guitar
SAHB Records were brilliant tho'. & Alex's two albums, 'The Mafia Stole my Guitar' & the posthumously released 'Soldier on the Wall' are ... er.. pure Alex
Wow Zal Cleminson is a guitar god. I can't believe SAHB was so underground but it makes it even more cool that they are. They became one of my favorites bands of all time.
I saw this on Don Kirschners Rock Concert at least 35 years ago and became a huge SAHB fan. Only got to see them once live in N.O. opening for Jethro Tull.Great stuff!!
Finally! I searched for this one before but for some reason I couldn't find this one. I remember back in the late 70s when a friend played a couple of albums for me. Instant fan...or maybe I was high on weed. LOL
Off the wall,so original and outrageously good.wont ever see the likes of these guys again
couldn't care less about the picture quality. the music is quality enough! Miss you lots Alex.
Great to read comments from all SAHB fans out there...we know who we are!
thetroons. Wot a Band.. Love it.. VAMBO RULE
I loved them back in the day. Looks like they may have heavily influenced The Tubes.

I'll never understand why these guys are not more popular
Everybody into prog rock early 70s..
Alex Harvey Band. The real deal
It's like funk meet a 50's detective drama and they had a baby who did a lot of acid and started a band.
Thanks for uploading.....not enough footage of the mighty SAHB around......my all time favourite band....they could do it all. Legends.
Seen this on midnight special when I was about 10 or 12 I’m 56 now it has really stuck with me all these years true talent

It says something that they had an excellent full-on guitarist, painted as a clown, a collection of other stellar musicians - none of them shrinking violets - and Alex was never once up-staged.

Iam 63 still rockinggggg,
This version of the song is absolutely incredible, I love it. I wish stereo recordings existed of this.
Stunning Alex Harvey
Amazing how spot- on this is musically and lyrically compared to the recorded version. With some improv on top for extra flavour!
Zal....The best!

A musical Mickey Spillane story. 😊
Saw them live , when i was 17 years old...blew my mind.

Brilliant band musicians so unique and original
A fan since seeing them at Southport Floral Hall on the Next tour. VAMBO.
The Opening of this reminds me of "Shaft" by Isaac Hayes. SAHB had a great blend of styles in this song!
You can see so many modern bands in these guys!
i wish i would have seen hin in concert,im 45,we use to listen to alex when we where teens

Saw them at the first Knebworth concert in 1974. Great band. Got most of their albums
They are awesome and classic!!
What a great song!
Me too. Pure genius.
Mesmerising Alex & his SAHB . His stage presence was menacing, he looked at everyone in the eye. Sensational.
and you see why any artist of any kind that was into rock music would go to see Alex because he did one of the best live shows in the music business back in the early 70's, and this shows Zal at his best playing killer lead guitar
and there on the floor that was all that was left of the man with no face-----omg
Wow!!! Does this bring back memories. I remember when he did this song on Kirshner's.
