There were only two brilliant pub acts in the seventies. One was Dr Feelgood and the other was SAHB. I was so mesmerised after an Alex Harvey concert that I had to go see him the following night. No live act has ever matched the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. He was out of this world.

I was listening to an interview with a rock & roll columnist for one of the New York papers, he said he's seen every great band on the plant. First saw them in March 1973 when nobody- at least out in the sticks-knew much about them . The stage was done up like an Edwardian parlour and Alex came on dressed up in a posh person’s smoking jacket and other era props and everyone thought what the heck is this, and then they started playing and oh my gosh it was a mind blowing moment and they were absolutely amazing and blew the crowd away and they were the support group. Once seen never forgotten.

They were actually really popular in some areas in the USA. Allentown ,Erie & Reading PA . Cleveland & Cincinnatti Ohio. Many of the smaller markets in the midwest & south. They did it the old fashioned way. They played everywhere in the US not just the major cities. They used to be on multiple band bills as a 2nd or 3rd place band. In the smaller cities they became headliners. I've seen SAHB blow away many top billed bands like Alice Cooper & Black Sabbath. The major city radio stations never really gave them their due. Audiences loved them!

They had everything I was looking for in a band: a great (but not over-done) stage show, unusual song structures with odd-ball chords and time changes and a guitarist who was kind of spooky, playing one of the guitars I lusted after back then (an SG). Gosh they were good, and I esp. liked Zal Cleminson's playing!

On my way to Duluth, Minnesota late 70's to see Alex Harvey (+Edgar Winter). 50 miles from Duluth we heard on the radio that Alex Harvey wouldn't be performing. It was a bummer. Edgar was good though.

Saw them as support to Yes at Stoke City football ground.
A fight broke out on the pitch and Alex stopped the band playing. He threatened to come down on the pitch and beat the he'll out of the ones fighting. They stopped in a hurry and the band started up again like nothing had happened.

Zal Cleminson ONE OF THE BEST LARGELY UNKNOWN GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME. Check out all their tracks, he is a freaking beast all over them. And all the time, doing his theatrics barely glancing at his hands. BEAST.

Mix Bowie with slade and a few others and this is what you get. I saw them in mid seventies. Now here they are getting a second chance at stardom. Better throw Spinal Tap in the mix too.
