Yes! There weren’t any ripe pineapples for fresh juice at the store when I made a painkiller on my channel, so I opted for that and it’s so stunning close that it blew me away.
This is my favorite cocktail! My favorite version: 3/4 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Rum 3/4 oz Plantation O.F.T.D. or Wray & Nephew 3/4 oz Campari 3/4 oz Lime Juice 1 1/2 oz Pinapple Juice 3/4 oz Orgeat Swapping the simple for orgeat and combining overproof rum with the blackstrap really does something for me flavor-wise. Also, making the ratios an even 1 part everything to 2 parts pineapple juice makes it both easy to remember and easy to scale up.
Got really excited when I saw this upload! Great vid as always-The Jungle Bird is one of my all time favorites-if anyone if feeling adventurous, please try this riff from some random commenter on a YT video: TEQUILA JUNGLE BIRD 1.5 oz Rep Tequila .75 oz Campari 1.5 oz Passion Fruit Juice (I use Ceres) .5 oz Lime Juice .5 oz semi simple syrup (granulated sugar) Shake and serve in a rocks glass with a large cube
My wife and I have found the lemonhart 151 is our jungle bird rum of choice. The dark brown sugar and almost chocolately notes work so well with Campari
Definitely one of my favs. The bitter sweet fruity frothy goodness. I make a rif for Halloween I call the Jungle Bat where I replace the sugar syrup with Cherry Heering which turns it very red. I also really like Dr Bird rum in it.
I’m a rum fan and also love mixing them in cocktails. And Campari goes great with any acid fruit juice…pineapple, grapefruit, what have you. Definitely one to try in the warm weather. On a side note, if anyone ever gets a chance to visit Kuala Lumpur, I highly recommend. It’s a really cool city.
Everyone has their favorite cocktails, and the Jungle Bird pretty lives at or near the top of my list. Your ratios pretty much match mine (I usually only include a 0.5oz of lime juice). My preferred rum mix for this is to use two rums as you did, but I love the Plantation Stiggin's Pineapple Rum mixed with the contents of my aged rum infinity bottle. Unfortunately it seems that Trader Joe's stopped carrying the little cans of pineapple juice, and I haven't found a suitable substitute for that when fresh juice isn't available. I'll be making one tonight. Thanks Anders. Addendum: I've been known to add a half-ounce of Passoã passionfruit liqueur to this, and it is delicious that way, as well.
Glad to see the new bar mat in action with this awesome cocktail. I got mine delivered this week, along with some glasses. High quality merch. Really appreciate it!
Shout out to the production on these videos. Great using of slow mo, perfect lighting, variant lens, solid audio. Just great video work. A cut above most TH-cam videos.
I had to come back and leave a comment, the combination of Demerara and Jamaican rums in this was fantastic! Unfortunately I can't get Coruba or Hamilton here so I went with El Dorado 8 and Appleton 8. My favourite Jungle Bird ever, much more complex than with a single Jamaican rum! I've only tried blending rums in Mai Tais but now maybe I'll have to revisit some of the other cocktails that were just ok the first time round. Thanks again! 🙏
Tried this one recently, and it's already a favorite. People use terms like "balanced" and "greater than the sum of its parts" a lot when it comes to drink and food to the point that it's mostly just empty rhetoric, but in the case of this cocktail it legitimately applies. There's no way to guess what it's gonna taste like just by looking at the ingredients and none of them really defines it more than the others. Gonna be crushing a borderline dangerous amount of them this summer.
Agreed. You think it's going to be cloyingly sweet, and it is sweet, but that Campari is the secret ingredient that makes it an adult beverage. Great summertime sipper!
Thank you, I love your videos and started watching last year, it inspired me to learn more, get a couple books, and for Xmas I got a cocktail set and have been beginning my official drink making journey this year.
This video coming out on Saturday really through off our regular Friday night routine haha. My wife and I watch every week and have also started her parents watching weekly as well. Keep the cool content coming! Preferably on Fridays ;)
AWESOME DRINK ANDERS!!! I've actually been waiting for this one for its interesting combnation of ingredients. Thanks for the thorough history on the drink as well.
This is on my shortlist of all-time favorite cocktails. I've tried it with numerous rums and found the Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Black to be one of the few that can stand up to the Campari, creating a real nice balance. As a first time commenter, long time fan, just wanted to thank you and Az for all the great videos. You've been my biggest inspiration in my cocktail journey over the past 2 years.
Hi Anders, this is a blast from the past….great history, the drink looks fantastic in a Collin’s glass!..This drink has a nice balance between Campari & the fresh pineapple juice. Well Done!👌👌👌😁😁😁 loved seeing Freya enjoy the ice cubes!…have a great weekend and as always “CHEERS!”🍹🍹😁😁❤️❤️
I just made this tonight and I’m three deep lol. I’ve used Cruzan Black Strap Rum in the past but I’m currently out of it so I used Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum and I think I prefer it better; it’s super crushable (to steal a phrase from the craft beer industry lol). Add the following to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake: 1.5 oz Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum .75 oz Campari 1.5 oz pineapple juice .5 oz lime juice .5 oz rich demerara syrup Strain into whatever glass you got, over ice. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, orange wheel, cocktail umbrella, or not. Either way, enjoy! Cheers.
This is my wifes favorite drink, but she likes the campari subbed for aperol. Less bitter, more fruity and leans a bit more into Tiki flavors. SOLID drink either way
Ive always thought the Jungle Bird just missed the mark somehow. Had this version last night. Andets - you've done it again! Thank you! I used Plantation OD & OFTD.
I've only just scratched the surface of my rum journey but so far for me my go-to rum combo for cocktails is 1 1/2oz Appleton 12 and 1/2oz Dr Bird. Get a nice mix of aged and funky. Oh and it's fairly affordable too.
We had a busy weekend, but we tried these tonight, Awesome and the color is great when we watch the Phillies play. Needed a little more of the rum we were using to taste it and not be too sweet. But a great summer cocktail.
Love the Jungle Bird. There are so many possible variations. I make one with aged cachaça as the spirit and agave syrup as the sweetener. I call it the Southern Screamer which is the name of an actual jungle bird from southern Brazil.
Probably my favorite cocktail. I've been using plantation pineapple rum lately to double down on the pineapple notes, balcones dark rum is also phenomenal in a jungle bird
I've been waiting for you to do this one! Thank you! One of my top five cocktails. I use a little more pineapple juice and a little more rum - 2 oz ea. and I use half Hamilton 86 and half Hamilton Pot Still Black, which adds just a bit of funkiness.
The Jungle Bird is my favorite! I know it's supposed to be made with dark rum, but I really like subbing that for cachaca when I want the drink to taste even more refreshing.
@3:01 isn't just "Black strap Rum" some marketing name which mostly Cruzan is using. I think what we are are after perhaps is the "Gosling" taste (ei think dark and stormy- taste). So I think Goslings (or even Gosling's Family Reserve Rum) works great in the Jungle Bird.
This is by far my favorite "tikki" cocktail. I typically dont love pineapple flavors. But something about the orange and bitter from the campari plays so well with the pineapple
Oh man, someone else has used that blackstrap rum for a Jungle Bird! I love it! I often use Aperol instead of Campari because I am a baby when it comes to bitter stuff.
I'm so glad you did an episode on this. This kicks my butt into gear for doing a Jungle Bird-off as a cocktail comp here in my city. Everyone is in love with the idea of riffing their own jungle bird and definitively deciding which is the best version. Personally, I like Coruba with a generous barspoon of 2:1 molasses.
Love Love Love the Jungle Bird! It is one of my favorites. Have you made it with Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Black Rum? That’s the way I learned to make it. Unfortunately I have been out of this rum for some time and have been mixing and trying different ones. As soon as I started your video I started fishing in my bar and came up with Appleton Estate 12 year. Made it with that and I am enjoying one glorious Jungle Bird now! Thanks for your videos. I have learned so much from you and I am a better home bartender for it!😂
I love rum, tiki, tropical drinks, and especially Campari, but have somehow never tried this one. Guess I know what I’m making for friends and game night today!
I love jungle bird. I've been using El Dorado 8 mixed with Smith&Cross lately and it's a winner combo as long as you do 2:1 (demerara:s&c) ratio. Cheers!
FYI - if the pineapple is just a little too much, you can add a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters and it mellows that out. I think I added 4 dashes from a small dasher bottle and it was perfect for me
One of my absolute favourites and a bit of a go to 👌🏻 My other half isn’t a Campari fan so I make variation I’ve called a jungle monkey using Aperol and 86 friends banana rum - it’s good
Love it. Switched my Campari/Tiki love to the Bitter Mai Tai though. As a French guy, I would love to try those Hamilton’s bottles. I should maybe trade Chartreuse bottles with rum bottles 😂 Thanks for the good work Anders. I never really commented on your videos but I’m here since 3 years now, still a pleasure. Cheers!
Such a great cocktail. I first had one at Hale Pale in Portland, OR. I make them with the same recipe from Smuggler's Cove. Your version and the sipper version are next!
Anders, skol! Dude, please bring the fam and come join us in SW Florida! We could really use a supreme mixologist, and you take the cake (or rum for that matter). By the way, the fact that you named your dog Freya is hysterical.
The Jungle Bird is an excellent drink. I think the Campari in it makes it very interesting. I’ve done a variation that uses included gin and swaps the pineapple juice for grapefruit juice and I would live to submit it if you ever do another one of those viewer drinks videos.
My favorite rum to use for a jungle bird is the Hamilton Zombie blend by Beachbum Berry - it gets the flavor of the mixed Jamaican and Demerara rums without having to actually put in the effort. I’ll also go for about .66oz Campari over .75oz as I think it makes for a slightly more balanced drink.
I have to admit I have hung off of a lot of bars in my time and your dog is likely cleaner than some folks I have seen while glancing to the right or left. Does that say more about me or? Anyways love the content and your pup.
Coruba ❤ Named after Compagnie Rhumière de Bâle, one hour by train from my town in Switzerland. We use the coconut one in our bar, for those who ask for Malibu 🥴
I love this drink so much. My recipe that i've tweaked is 2oz of bourbon, 1 ice cube for flavor. JK, Anders, you keep killing it with the recipes and videos, keep it up!
I live in the burbs now and have found Coruba at Garfields in Palatine! Just a FYI in the event you want to shop local(ish)! And it’s like $20 which is the bestest part.
If you don’t want to juice fresh pineapple, the cold pressed pineapple juice from Trader Joe’s is the next best thing. It’s in the fridge section!
I go to the immigrant store. Super cheap and delicious in the box, with even a bit of pulp.
Yes! There weren’t any ripe pineapples for fresh juice at the store when I made a painkiller on my channel, so I opted for that and it’s so stunning close that it blew me away.
This is the kind of information I come here for. Thank you
I also really like the Cruzan blackstrap rum in a dark and stormy
I’ve always thought TJ’s carton pineapple juice tastes the closest to fresh squeezed of anything I’ve tried. Even better than more expensive brands.
Seeing Freya living her best dogo life eating ice at the end was the chef’s kiss. ❤
Yessss. More Freya at the ends of episode please and thank you.
I second this! More Freya!!!@@KongKyrre
Great video Freya, nice technique on the ice chomping. Your human was pretty entertaining too!
This is my favorite cocktail! My favorite version:
3/4 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
3/4 oz Plantation O.F.T.D. or Wray & Nephew
3/4 oz Campari
3/4 oz Lime Juice
1 1/2 oz Pinapple Juice
3/4 oz Orgeat
Swapping the simple for orgeat and combining overproof rum with the blackstrap really does something for me flavor-wise. Also, making the ratios an even 1 part everything to 2 parts pineapple juice makes it both easy to remember and easy to scale up.
Freya is an angel in a dog’s disguise! Those eyes!!❤
Love the drink. Absolutely ADORE Freya.
Got really excited when I saw this upload! Great vid as always-The Jungle Bird is one of my all time favorites-if anyone if feeling adventurous, please try this riff from some random commenter on a YT video:
TEQUILA JUNGLE BIRD
1.5 oz Rep Tequila
.75 oz Campari
1.5 oz Passion Fruit Juice (I use Ceres)
.5 oz Lime Juice
.5 oz semi simple syrup (granulated sugar)
Shake and serve in a rocks glass with a large cube
My wife and I have found the lemonhart 151 is our jungle bird rum of choice. The dark brown sugar and almost chocolately notes work so well with Campari
Jungle Bird is my favorite of all time.
Cruzan makes a great rum across the board! One of my favorites! I'm glad to see it get a mention!
Definitely one of my favs. The bitter sweet fruity frothy goodness. I make a rif for Halloween I call the Jungle Bat where I replace the sugar syrup with Cherry Heering which turns it very red. I also really like Dr Bird rum in it.
Ooh, I'm going to have to try that mod!
That sounds pretty fun. I like the name of your variation.
It’s a really cool city.

just had my first ever Jungle Bird using your recipe, but I realised half a glass later that I forgot the lime.
It blew my socks off even so!!
A classic! Though now I want to try the 'sipper' version.
My dog loves ice cubes too! She comes running when she hears me shaking cocktails knowing that I'll always share a few from the tin.
Perfect timing for the unseasonably warm weather we're having this weekend-thanks as always. Groovy shirt btw.

My personal favorite cocktail of all time - loved seeing your take on it. Cheers! ❤
Tried this over the weekend and it was great! Will definitely be adding it to my rotation. Thanks Andwrs!!
My bar just added the Jungle Bird this week - exquisite timing, Anders!
OOOOOH this is a fun summer drink!!!! Def gonna make this soon! Thank you for sharing the story and recipe Anders!
This was one of the first rum cocktails I added to my bar binder. Don’t make it much but it is fun.
This looks amazing
This is on my shortlist of all-time favorite cocktails. I've tried it with numerous rums and found the Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Black to be one of the few that can stand up to the Campari, creating a real nice balance.
As a first time commenter, long time fan, just wanted to thank you and Az for all the great videos. You've been my biggest inspiration in my cocktail journey over the past 2 years.
Appreciate the comment and love the Hamilton Pot Still Black. Cheers!
Can’t wait to try this one! And I love the single bird shirt, too.
I am happy to have Appleton Estate laying around
The Jungle Bird has to be my fav cocktail just so good in the summer
Hi Anders, this is a blast from the past….great history, the drink looks fantastic in a Collin’s glass!..This drink has a nice balance between Campari & the fresh pineapple juice. Well Done!👌👌👌😁😁😁 loved seeing Freya enjoy the ice cubes!…have a great weekend and as always “CHEERS!”🍹🍹😁😁❤️❤️

I love adding a little bit of Smith and Cross in this drink for just that little bit of funk!
I made a variation using aperol, gosling rum, and a bit of sake, would recommend
Our dog LOVES frozen cucumbers and frozen carrots. Highly recommend.
Finally a use for the fronds in my freezer from your video!
This is my wifes favorite drink, but she likes the campari subbed for aperol. Less bitter, more fruity and leans a bit more into Tiki flavors. SOLID drink either way
I appreciate this channel. Love a Jungle Bird with Plantation OFTD!
Ive always thought the Jungle Bird just missed the mark somehow. Had this version last night. Andets - you've done it again! Thank you! I used Plantation OD & OFTD.

One if my all-time favs!
Great drink and great Punch Brothers tune!
We had a busy weekend, but we tried these tonight, Awesome and the color is great when we watch the Phillies play. Needed a little more of the rum we were using to taste it and not be too sweet. But a great summer cocktail.
I always loved the bottle slide! 😢
Me too. Gonna miss that so much. I say "ditch the mat Anders!" 🤣
Awwww Freya 6:33
❤🐶❤🐶❤
She can eat ice on the bar for sure. She’s a good girl.

I switched Campari with Aperol also very delicious. It’s what I had on hand
Thanks for the suggestion! I can't stand Campari, so I'd much rather use Aperol. AND I just bought a new bottle.
@@devinphillips9704 Glad I helped enjoy!

Your perfect choice of shirt did not go overlooked
This is by far my favorite "tikki" cocktail. I typically dont love pineapple flavors. But something about the orange and bitter from the campari plays so well with the pineapple
I made this with 1 oz Smith & Cross and 0,5 oz El Dorado 8 years Demerara rum and the result was amazing!
Oh man, someone else has used that blackstrap rum for a Jungle Bird! I love it! I often use Aperol instead of Campari because I am a baby when it comes to bitter stuff.
Bought the new Collin’s. It’s perfect and really feels like good quality glass!
One day I will deck out my bar and have all the fun stuff. I doubt I'll get to try this in any soon time but one day.
The ice cube commercial was the best ❤️😁
I'm so glad you did an episode on this. This kicks my butt into gear for doing a Jungle Bird-off as a cocktail comp here in my city. Everyone is in love with the idea of riffing their own jungle bird and definitively deciding which is the best version. Personally, I like Coruba with a generous barspoon of 2:1 molasses.
Freya should be featured more often. Also if you don't mind, could you please make a video on rum old fashioned in the future? Thanks Anders
I made a clarified version of this cocktail it's one of my favorite cocktails ever!!!
I highly recommend trying this with Koaloa chocolate rum. Delicious!
Your dog is so cute!
Freya says thanks! Cheers
Campari and pineapple: that's a great combo. Definitely going to try this one, thanks! My dog also loves water bones (ice cubes).
This cocktail has a little bit of everything, in a good way.
Love Love Love the Jungle Bird! It is one of my favorites. Have you made it with Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Black Rum? That’s the way I learned to make it. I liked the shot of the neon sign RUM and the drink! But Freya stole the show 😂
Goslings black seal 151 and Lemon Hart 151 is a heck of a Jungle Bird!
"Try all the rums" Hard work but I'll volunteer for the task. Also a big fan of Freyja cameos
One of my favorites right now. Smith & Cross and Appleton Signature are my go-to's. I also like to add scant quarter ounce Velvet Falernum
Freya is the cutest! 😍
FYI - if the pineapple is just a little too much, you can add a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters and it mellows that out. I think I added 4 dashes from a small dasher bottle and it was perfect for me

Awesome video
My Golden's love ice cubes also. My teeth hurt just listening to them chomp down on those big hard pieces of ice. Lol
One of my favourite drinks ever! Interesting idea mixing 2 rums… I just wish we could get Hamilton and Caruba in Europe! Thanks for sharing!
I just did this one too. Excellent stuff.
Love it. Switched my Campari/Tiki love to the Bitter Mai Tai though.
As a French guy, I would love to try those Hamilton’s bottles. I should maybe trade Chartreuse bottles with rum bottles 😂
Thanks for the good work Anders. I never really commented on your videos but I’m here since 3 years now, still a pleasure. Cheers!
Such a great cocktail. I first had one at Hale Pale in Portland, OR. I make them with the same recipe from Smuggler's Cove. Your version and the sipper version are next!
Was just looking for some ways to use my Campari after discovering, I don't like it all that much. Wonderfully done thanks Anders!
WOW Shirt and drink!❤
Anders, skol! Dude, please bring the fam and come join us in SW Florida! We could really use a supreme mixologist, and you take the cake (or rum for that matter). By the way, the fact that you named your dog Freya is hysterical.

@anderserickson - long time fan here and a cocktail lover. Wanted to request could you make a couple of rum based cocktails with Old Monk Rum please?
I love this drink so much. My recipe that i've tweaked is 2oz of bourbon, 1 ice cube for flavor. JK, Anders, you keep killing it with the recipes and videos, keep it up!
Three Dots and a Dash makes my favorite version of this.
TO THE BAR! ➡️🥃
Give us the bird Anders! 😂🤣

I live in the burbs now and have found Coruba at Garfields in Palatine! Just a FYI in the event you want to shop local(ish)! And it’s like $20 which is the bestest part.
