Thanx for your video! Will try to do it by myself on my 3008 ehdi 2013! Just need to find out which power steering fluid to buy for it! And that 5% it’s absolutely fine believe that if will be done after week once again will be 100% ;)
Hi first ape, yes there is a way to drain it completely, but it involves removing the bottoms pipes and then putting them back together is a nightmare. Nearly impossible to be made leak-free afterwards, a bit of exaggeration of course, but it is difficult and access is not very convenient. The way I am doing it assures ~95-99% of the fluid is renewed, that is good enough for me.
Thank you for the video. I was doing it today in my hatchback 307 HDI 90Cv and I only manage to take 0.5 L from the reservoir ( using an air pump with tube extension to suck the bottom of the reservoir ) Is it normal ?? Thank you !
It could be normal, yes. What I normally do is do it once, turn the wheels a few times, maybe be drive for a bit and then replace it again. Basically you reduce the concentration of the old liquid with every replacement. Unfortunately, with this method you can never replace everything, but it is good enough.
@@moremolecules many thanks. I followed your instructions step by step. The only difference was the volume taken out from the reservoir , 0.5 litre only . The direction goes much more light now. I think the old fluid wasn’t changed for many years. It was quite black and smelled burnt ! It’s funny because mechanics write in the service bill : “ levels checked “ yes yes always checked but never replaced !?!🤬
@@bernatcarnerbonet3251 It could be, depending on whether it is electro/oil combo power steering or just oil. I think my 307 is the electro/oil combo, but yours seems quite the same, only that is the 1.6HDi. Not too sure if there is a difference between the two. I would not worry too much, if it is getting lighter in terms of colour it means that it has worked. Was the fluid at the min/max normal position, somewhat in between or it was lower than that. You have probably checked it already.
@@bernatcarnerbonet3251 About the mechanics replacing stuff. I had a 3 year free servicing for my other Peugeot Partner. I started replacing the stuff myself afterwards. The air filter was so black that it had not been replaced for probably all these 3 years of servicing and there were items there written, i.e. air filter. Abysmal.
@@moremolecules The colour of the fluid now after 3 changes is red like the original from the bottle . I will drive it a bit more and will do a 4th change. Thank you. I am preparing a video on the latest update on my catch can. It has started to collect some oil, but it is not really much. I am thinking of installing a second oil catch can to see if more can be collected.

Hi friend, I have a problem. On my Peugeot 307 , power steering doesnt work when its cold.. for example when the temperature is 0 celsius or less it doesnt work, I need to star car over and over again maybe 10 times or more.. I changed fluid but still its the same . Do you maybe know whats the problem..do i need new pump.. and when the temp is 8° or more it works fine..
Hi Dorde, Difficult to say, but it coul dbe the power steering pump. Could be that the alternator is intermittent. The power steering pump is helped by an electric motor within, but this draws quite a bit of amps. If I were you, I would buy one of these DC clamp meters and measure the amps generated by the alternator. Or you could measure the voltage on the battery. It could be that the regulator in the alternator is bad and not supplying enough amps, so the power steering will be switched off in that case to save on electricity.
@@moremolecules thank you so much friend on a fast response. I will try what you Said. I watched your video how to changed fuel filter . It helped a lot
@@orenestorovic1921 Measure either or better both the voltages and amperes at the alternator (big metal + piece and the negative on the alternator body) and the battery. There should not be a big difference in voltages. It should be on cold engine ~14.1-14.4V or thereabouts. If you get a DC clamp meter you can get the amperes produced from the alternator when the pump is working and when it is not. Same with voltages, measure when it is working and when it is not. Most likely there is not enough voltage/amperes to battery (whatever the reason) and the ECU is cutting the electricity going to the power steering pump. Seems logical from engine's perspective, if alternator is not delivering enough and the power steering pump is consuming quite a bit of power, to cut that. Still driveable and you can still go to a safe place while the battery supplies the power without alternator or loss of electricity somewhere, say a broken wire or something.
Turning the wheel from full lock to full lock 10 times each way will bleed the air out, although sucking the fluid out and putting new in does not introduce air into the system.
Hi Mel, I was talking about doing the whole procedure 2 more times. That is, 2 full drains and turning of the wheels. Calculation refers to how much of the old fluid will be left if you do that. It is not like full drain and fill up, some of the old fluid will be persistent in the system.
Hello nice video can i follow the procedure in my 2013 Citroen c4 1,6 ehdi and use febi bilstein 6161 fluid which follows the psa s71 2710 but its green?
Yes, the pipes have a seal that is really difficult to seal back without it weeping. This method should replenish the fluid to nearly 95-99%. 5% that is left is not that big of a deal, at least to me.
I wish I checked my fluid level. My powersteering pump screemed like a small child being sniffed by Joe Biden and now the steering is heavy. Probably need a new pump. Hopefully, a top up will help me get to the mechanic. No it won't.
My bicycle is a Peugeot! Thanks for the video! I'm going to go do this right now.
Great video, just finished this on my car and no more whining power steering pump. 👍

Hi. Do you know how much power steering fluid does a peugeot 407sw 2008 takes?
Is there any way of draining completely? and does draining cause problems like air in the system which is the reason you are doing it your way.?

can we use ATF as power steering fluid for Peugeot??
Yes, I was using the Gulf ATF DXII, but the recommended one is Total Fluide DA

How do you bleed air out

Surely you would drain fluid from steering rack

Yeah, it needs a bit of fluid. Top it up and see if you can displace air with moving it several times from full lock to full lock.
