  • I've been spending some time learning about form and structure. This piece is an attempt at writing in period form, with the A theme (meas 1-4) and B theme (meas 5-8) filling 4 bars apiece, followed by a short interjection before introducing the C theme (meas 10-17) that leads into a brief development incorporating a sequence of descending fifths, from Bm -- Em -- Am --D7. This establishes the cadential progression that fills the remaining bars before the repeat.
The brief Development section (meas 29-42) is another sequence that climbs up ascending fourths, from Bm - Em - Am, before the melody is butressed by broken diminished chords that ease the melody into F major.
The recap, now in F major, restates the material from the beginning, and modulates the work back into C, before concluding with a PAC.
The harmonic structure is borrowed from Mozart K545. Though I take the music elsehwere, I used this Sonata as a guide to help me concentrate more on form. Life always gets easier when there are fewer decisions to make!
