  • Lisa Gade reviews the Google Nexus 6P Android smartphone, made by Huawei.
    ** Read our written review here: www.mobiletechr...
    This is Google’s higher end and larger of two models released in 2015 (the smaller and less expensive model is the Nexus 5X reviewed here: www.mobiletechr... ). The Nexus 6P has an attractive unibody anodized aluminum casing and a slim design. It’s a big phone with a 5.7” QHD 2560 x 1440 AMOLED display. It has the top of the line 2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 ocata-core CPU with Adreno 430 graphics, 3 gigs of DDR4 RAM and your choice of 32, 64 or 128 gigs storage.
    The phone is unlocked for use on most carriers and in the US it supports AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon with LTE 4G, among others. It has a 12.3MP rear camera with large pixel sites for better low light photos and a front 8MP camera. It has the usual dual band WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. Other goodies include front facing stereo speakers, pure Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the promise of quick OS updates and an ample 3450 mAh battery with quick charging. The price starts at $499.

    I've been using my new Nexus 6P for about a month. it's pretty solid. after the 6.0.1 update some battery gains and even snappier.
    Great camera, low light performance. I'm a night person, so that works out very well! I've never taken so many pictures before.

    After watching plenty of flagship phone reviews, most reviewers don't test/ give any information about Call quality - the most important feature of a good phone. I took me 4 years (through iPhone 4s,5,5s, Samsung s4, alpha, lg g pro, g2, g flex2 , BlackBerry z30) to finally find a phone that call quality satisfies my need (I'm a non-native English-speaking ): Moto X 2014 ( I didn't like Chinese brand Lenovo at first).
    Love your reviews, I hope you spend sometime to test, compare and rate Call quality feature in future phone reviews. Best,

    Lisa, can you do a review of the Pixel C? Also, I would really like to see a comparison of the Apple/Microsoft/Google ecosystems and how each interacts with the respective phone, tablet and computer. I would like to see how each cloud service compares when it comes to appointments, docs, reminders, notes, photos, music, etc. Maybe even do a cross platform comparison like using Google cloud on iPhone....and some mix of the same for MS, iCloud.

  • @JamesSYoungJr
    @JamesSYoungJr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Lisa. Question for you. Has Google made the carriers responsible for the updates to the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X when you use a carrier SIMS card? The reason I ask this is because many of us bought a Nexus 6 from Google or Motorola unlocked and Google has apparently made the carriers responsible by SIMS card for our updates. As of today, my unlocked Nexus 6 is still waiting on a Marshmallow update from AT&T because that is who my service provider is. I just don't see the Nexus series being a benefit if I am still relying on the carriers for an update when Google use to update the phone directly with no carrier interference.

    • @Vk-gr1vg
      @Vk-gr1vg 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      James, unlocked phones especially the Nexus have Android software on which the carriers have no control. All updates are received from Google directly.

    • @JamesSYoungJr
      @JamesSYoungJr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Venkat P I thought the same thing owning a Galaxy nexus device in the past. Apparently, my Motorola Nexus 6 bought from Motorola unlocked seems to be controlled by AT&T and their update system with me inserting my SIMS card. Not only have I had this issue, but majority of everyone who bought the Motorola Nexus 6 from Google and Motorola unlocked. The updates have been sent by Google but have been controlled by the carriers with user and their SIM cards.

    Would this be such a great phone if you had to pay non-US prices? In the UK it is the equivalent of $750 (>50% more than US) for the 64GB version and to be honest only the Lumia 850XL & iphone 6s Plus are more expensive at the moment. So "no" for me. Once the other flagships have Marshmallow & the latest processors then this will look very over priced in my region. The S7 or HTC One, both due early April will be worth the wait especially as both will have a fingerprint reader on the front (much better). For US buyers it is very good value so I cannot really knock it at that price point.
    As always an excellent review, thanks.

    Personally I'm not convinced it's Samsung latest panel. Looking at this phone, the Priv, and Galaxy Note 5 side by side, the Note 5's display is just so much more white, bright, and vibrant. I'd almost say the 6P has the Note 4 display, and the Priv a 2013/Nexus 6 panel.

    • @waycoolscootaloo
      @waycoolscootaloo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Galaxy/Note use Super AMOLED. Super AMOLED while nearly identical, is usually brighter and allows for better light/color transmission through the pannel. This phone is using just standard AMOLED. So it won't pop as much with vibrance. It's hard to track down if it's a Samsung screen to be certain. But then again, most manufacturer's apart from Samsung have the ability to supply AMOLED screens.

    • @MatthewBenson321
      @MatthewBenson321 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scootaloo Actually if not mistaken, it has been confirmed that Samsung makes and supplies the panels for the 6P. It has also been linked to those from last year's Nexus 6 however I don't believe it was ever officially confirmed.
      Also there was a news story a few weeks back that basically said Samsung has something like 94% of the profit from OLED production and sales.

    • @waycoolscootaloo
      @waycoolscootaloo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Benson Yeah, I can believe that. Technologically they are way ahead with AMOLED tech compared to any competitors. LG basically admitted to it to this past week by announcing that they're going to invest billions of dollars into AMOLED development to try and close the gap. I think most manufacturer's have realized that AMOLED screens are the future. They just have much more potential compared to LCD which has been basically perfected as far as it can go.
      And even Apple announced a new development facility for AMOLED displays. Samsung is rumored to be in talks with Apple now too. Apple has hinted that they would like to see AMOLED screens on the near future.
      Insiders are saying that Apple may be pushing for the iPhone 8 to release with the AMOLED displays. It won't release on the 7 series however due to a lack of production capacity. Samsung wouldn't have the production capacity for another full year yet supposedly at the earliest.
      Samsung isn't likely to limit production capacity on the Galaxy line to support a competitor after all. LOL!

    • @MatthewBenson321
      @MatthewBenson321 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scootaloo Apple announced a facility? I think Samsung and LG have announced new facilities. Apple doesn't actually have the capacity to manufacture display panels.

    • @waycoolscootaloo
      @waycoolscootaloo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Benson No. Lol! They announced an 80,000 square foot facility for research and development of AMOLED and other technologies. Then they could give these designs to companies like Samsung to use to produce screens or other Technologies for their iPhones. Or basically what they already do with there processors.

  • @waycoolscootaloo
    @waycoolscootaloo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Definitely seems like a nice phone. And since it's sporting Samsung's gorgeous AMOLED 5.7” QHD 2560 x 1440 display, that alone makes the phone more attractive. I was using my friend's new iPhone 6s Plus this past weekend and was quite surprised at how the colors really didn't have that nice colorful bright look that the Galaxy phones have. The screen was plenty sharp. (It's full HD after all.) But once you get used to Samsung's AMOLED display, going to the LCD just seems like a bit of a downgrade. (But still nice)
    But you can see why Apple is now seriously looking into replacing the 2 year old panel on the 6s Plus with AMOLED tech by the time the iPhone 8 launches. (Supposedly they are now in negotiations with LG and Samsung for supplying the displays.) So obviously don't expect the iPhone 7 to have AMOLED displays. It will likely reuse the same display that last years 6/6 Plus and this year's 6s/6s Plus are using.
    Although there is a rumor that Apple could bump the smaller of the two 7's to 1080P to match the 7 Plus version.
    Now if the Snapdragon 810 CPU and Adreno 430 graphics running native Android on the 6P aren't already enticing enough, the screen may push you over the edge for those who have never really looked at the AMOLED displays on the Galaxy line up.

    • @MysticalMastodon
      @MysticalMastodon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe Apple will release a display as saturated as these phones. If the go with AMOLED display, it would probably look similar to the current iPhones default color profile with deeper blacks.

    • @waycoolscootaloo
      @waycoolscootaloo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Gonzales The only problem is that it wouldn't make sence for them to want to do that, since the majority of people prefer the brighter colors that AMOLED affords.

      +Mohd Anwar hey Lisa, nexus 6's display seem to have a warmer display. Whites look slightly yellowish instead of bright whites . Is this a feature of amoled displays? Your response will be much appreciated.:)

    She hates Apple yet when ever she reviews a phone she always compares it to iPhone, when she reviews a tablet she always compares it to iPad...curious.

    • @mobiletechreview
      @mobiletechreview  8 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      +devildog1775907 LOL I don't have Apple. I use a MacBook Pro by choice for my work machine. But the iPhone and iPad are popular products that everyone has seen in person, so it's a good point of comparison.

      Simply comparing devices to competitors doesn't mean they are given so racial treatment. Lisa has the most unbiased reviews I've seen on TH-cam.

      +MobileTechReview Smh I really don't understand people I know Lisa how you feel. I love Mac book pro and ipads for tablets best. But as for phones rite now I've been using The Samsung s6 eagle plus for the past few months and just got the LG V10. So happy I do love the nexus 6p as well

      LOL, you're unmasking yourself dude as the race-conscious one. Lisa is awesome. Wake up.

    like the review but I disagree with the photo quality vs note 5. I prefer more of the nexus 6p pictures. both phones are great for sure

      +Aye Alex do NOT get the Nexus 5. It has a serious design flaw (the power button gets stuck and the phone freezes). I've had it for two years now and I love it but it's driving me nuts. It's a really common thing if you just google it

      +Aye Alex that thing about the power boton is true. I love my Nexus 5, i'm a fan of Nexus devices, if you can offord it, well that camera is lovely, i'd defetively go for the 5x. 👌

      +Roach Meister It's the Super AMOLED, they can't call it "Super" since Samsung holds the name for the technology.
