This was my very first GPU. Back in 2017*, I was able to purchase the exact card in this video at around $70. I threw it in a used Dell Optiplex, and it served me well for a few years. I was able to play most eSports games at a stable FPS, as well as titles like GTA V, Life Is Strange, and Borderlands 2. It gets the job done if all you play is indie games and eSports games like LoL, Valorant, and CS:GO.
went to Micro Center lately, this is not the saddest thing ever, the saddest thing ever is when people start resorting to buy GT 710s and Quadro cards for gaming... you can at least play esports with this card...
I own this card ($68 in 2017). The GT 1030 was designed for home theater PCs, not gaming, which is why it can drive a 4K panel. It ended up going into budget gaming PCs during the last mining apocalypse. Until the release of the low profile 1650, it was the best available for any small form factor build. It is great in my HP z210 (4c/8t @3.3Ghz, 16Gb ram). It is still a fine card for anything outside of AAA 1st person shooters from the last couple of years. I understand that Zach is unaware of any gaming outside of that genre; but it is good for what it is actually designed to do. The games that I actually played and enjoyed with this card include: Diablo III Doom (2016) Grim Dawn Hellbound Sunless Sea Torchlight 1, 2, 3 Victor Vran
@@Zemu8 thats still a good deal in my opinion, since i saw listings the other month as high as 150$. Good thing we bought the cards before the soared up to 200.
Over the last few years i have built my own computers with new parts only. I have just built my retirement rig with an EVGA FTW 3 3070 which i acquired at a store in Canada back in November. Still cant get an AMD 5000 series cpu so i settled for the 3900xt. I now have an Asus dual 1050ti and an Asus ROG Strix 1660ti sitting in a drawer. I am going to build 2 computers with decent spare parts and sell them for a reasonable cost to someone getting into entry level gaming computers. I have seen on line some of the pricing on used these days and im not impressed. Anyway, good video Zach, keep em coming, Dave from Canada TC
A 2nd or 3rd Gen SFF OEM, 8gb DDR3, SSD and a GT1030 is a nice way to get through this crazy price period. CS GO and Fortnite gaming capable. Then build something more powerful when prices stabilise.
Just started looking into building a PC and have watched several videos of yours. Thank you for all the information, it's making the stress of building easier to handle.
I have a gt 1030. it's pretty good for 4k youtube and stuff I can even play GTA 5 online on 40-50 fps in medium setting 1080p without anti-aliasing stuff. don't go below this card those are just fancy HDMI adapters. get the gddr5 one not ddr4 one watch out for that
When I built my first put together PC, I was entering the hell of the last Crypto Bubble. At the time I was a little desperate as my Laptop I was using died, and my only other PC was an old XP Prebuilt from Gateway. I did do my research and did look for GTX 1050 and its variants, but everytime I hit the product pages, they were all gone, and the better 560/570 were getting swept up as well. This thing was my only hope to getting into, and I have all my respect to it for allowing me to do more than it had any right to as well as introducing me into the custom pc market one baby step at a time.
It would be nice to know if it any better than integrated graphics. Could you get a better or similar gaming experience with out spending any money on a gpu?
I had built my pc in this year. Only thing I needed was a gpu but my previous pc graphics card was a gt 1030 and when overclocked I could play mostly any game (with some exceptions) now I have a gtx 970 sc and I could not be happier
I have this card, and I got it for $85. And yes it's AWESOME for the money. Some games look "bad" but most look amazing. Edit: no, I was not saying minesweeper is awesome looking. I was referring to Fortnite and others. Others meaning "heavy" games
The humble GT 1030 will always be a legend in my book. My first ever graphics card of my first ever pc i built. Still a very viable option if you on a really tight budget, upgrading an office pc with gaming capabilities, as a gift to someone who wouldn't be able to afford anything to game on or for a kid to play Fortnite.
October 2019 I had a wild hair up my ass and replaced my 2 970s with a 5700xt. Fast forward to now, I'm trying to build a rig for my wife and cannot find anything comparable for under a grand. Absolutely livid.
God. I am glad I got mine 6 months ago. I traded a 5 year old tv on fb marketplace for it. Was planning on selling the tv for 50-60 dollars. I cannot believe what they are selling for now.
Dang ... I just got a R9 380 locally for a budget build , cause the prices are sick here as well (China) . Cost me ca. 90 USD! However, I was surprised that it could hold up even in some 1440p games.

A great alternative in my opinion to the GT 1030 is the Nvidia T400, its roughly the same size, newer, same 30w maximum, according to the comparison I looked at it performs about 30% better than the GT 1030, but this is all on paper I haven't tested it.
Normally I would agree with you Zach, but here I can't. If you have the chance to get this card, DO IT. With the 1650 I am getting an average of 30-35 FPS 1080 normal where as the 1030 I was getting 60-70 FPS average believe it or not.
980 ti is 1070 performance and if you over clock you will get close to 1080 aswell as 2060 perfomance maxwell architecture loves to be over clocked. 970 and 980 fall between around 1060 ti performance.
Actually not bad!...but GPU prices are screwed prolly for the next year or so!...but I'd get it for my little nieces that want me to build them all gaming pc's so they can play games like mine craft and fortnite
If you put one of those (which btw is a 4x PCI-e Gen3) into a MBoard which is merely Gen2, you end up bandwidth saturating too early and lose a 'theoretical' 15% GPU performance approximately _(depending on the games and benchmark software of course)._ The card edge-connector (redesigned) would need about a 7x/6x slot and a bit (theoretically) in a Gen2 to get the full bandwidth it needs (even in a 16x slot because the card is 4x). Think it over. See? If you use an AM3+ MBoard with a Gen3 slot (e.g. GA990x chipset) and benchmark it with an overclocked (including BCLK) fx4100/4300 or fx6300, compare it then to the same CPU (same 16GB DDR3 1600MHz) and nvidia1030 with a Gen2 MBoard. BTW yes it is worth trying in on both linux and MSwindows. Use Win8.1 if needed and Win10 _(but equally for both rigs for fair MBoard driver comparisons)._

Can you review the rx 560 ?
I can't believe it's better than my msi r7 250x graphic card
In 2019 this card was suitable for HTPCs only. In 2021 it's serving duty in gaming PCs...
times like this make me glad i hoard PC hardware :x those prices are CRAZY
I love honest video and review
Thanks for the real video! Ugh... people just don't buy a GT 1030... Thanks for taking a look at it though Zach!
Buy it.
I only play 2d platformers on my pc, will this gpu do the job?
My potato gpu is dead. I was thinking about getting one gt1030 but I am too broke for that
Rip
Get the GTX 650 or GTX 950
You no its bad when you gotta pull out the 1030
Dude I have one pls it's only capable for 720p, but for valorant, csgo, pubg, Fortnite other online games it is enough
the 1030 has always been a budget e-sports PC GPU.
