@@MsTinkerbelle87 it’s in nobody’s “blood”. She had an unstable home life, and both her parents introduced her to drugs and alchohol. Her father was a violent drunk, and her mom would take her out with her friends late at night, five times a week or more and let her drink and do other bad stuff like that. Because drew would feel anxious before interviews like this, her mom would get her drunk to help her “loosen up” and become more talkative. It was the influence of her parents… I really think drew wouldn’t have gone down such a dark path if she just had more responsible parental figures in her life. Poor thing :( she was SO young…

@@truantray Not sure where you got the blanket title "abusive drunk". He was apparently mean spirited when drunk (like a lot of people), gave up the drink pretty early on. Beloved by all but his family, yeah a neglectful parent more than an outright abusive one. He'd come home and play the drums and detach from his family.
Drew is a contemporary of mine so I, of course, never saw this live. However, I heard this interview mentioned over the years and I am just now watching it for the 1st time. What a fantastic interview! She was a precious precocious child and I'm glad that after all she was exposed to, she turned out so well.
I just love Drew Barrymore. It's surprisingly incredible that she still has the same mannerisms when she is live on instagram, the same charm. What an incredible woman she is. ♥️♥️
Carson was a class act. He did great interviews, and took this 7yr old seriously as an actress. He could have yukked it up for the crowd, but he didn't. Drew had a tough life after ET but Stephen Speilberg kept an eye on her and she grew up spending time with him and his family through the years. I saw an interview on her show with him - he surprised her for her birthday. The bond between Speilberg and Drew is father/daughter and to this day she still loves him.
@@sweetmisvixen she basically was on her own from age 8. Her mom was busy partying etc. Drew became a drug addict by the time she was 11, by herself at Hollywood parties and hanging with people much older than her. In her late teens she was in rehab and got herself figured out, but went through a lot of stuff in those 10 years. I'm proud of her for coming out stronger and whole. Many child actors don't make it
Carson has a way in his interviews, especially with children, to draw people out and really "communicate" so well with them. He never talks over anyone as some will do, and he always keeps things wonderfully positive! We lost a great communicator when he passed.
Her estrangement from her mom started early & the conversation Drew had w/ Johnny gave us insight that the emotional distance.she had w/her mom began @ a very early age. So sad that drinking & drugs became her refuge as a result of that mother / daughter relationship. Happy that Drew found herself & became a great mother to her daughters, a great actor, business woman, talk show host, etc. Her tough childhood gave her the drive & desire to prove the naysayers wrong & has succeeded on so many levels in her life. Kudos to you, Drew!
Precious, precious, precious Drew! At only 7 y/o, her personality, kindness & energy is pure GOLD. Her message to Steven! Her song to Johnny Carson! This 16 min appearance was NO acting or script which makes her such a shining star even until today. Now she successful with her own talk show.
Nothing cute about giving a small child cocaine and alcohol at an awards ceremony after party when they won awards for ET the film many many stars there sat and laughed. Still think its cute. 🇬🇧👍 Oh including Stephen Spielberg.
Love Carson! He doesn’t make any wisecracks. He treats the seven year old with the same respect, and he can be on the save wavelength - notice when Drew put her cheek on her hand he’s unconsciously mirroring the gesture - and make her relax. I miss him.
I saw this a long time ago. I don’t think she is anything more than true to herself. She seems to still be the sweetest, open and generous person as an adult. She hasn’t sold herself. I congratulate her spirit. Sending her admiration & respect.
She was such a personable little girl. What must she be thinking when she sees herself, watching that today. When you normally see child actors interviewed, they seem to just be "little kids", but Drew had such a great personality at such a young age. It's no surprise that she continued her career out of childhood and further as an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed this clip.
It's sad to know that Drew was alcohol and drug addicted at such a extremely young age (she literally had to go on rehab with 9 years), plus she was getting abused by so many old men at parties and getting neglected by her own mother. Like her mom doesn't even give her a good night kiss. That's just for shadowing how she was searching for any type of affection in older men, who have totally different intentions with her. She luckily found a way out of that, she's definitely a strong woman.
@@anni1348 right the whole interview is so cringe . This is weird and people need to wake up , she is a victim. She never had a chance . Her parents sold her out to Hollywood. Nobody protected her from the evil people and things in Hollywood.
This genuinely was heart warming interview where I smiled all the way through and even more when she said, “It’s about your face.” with such a cute smile
Yes. And I’d actually say the same about Drew. (Except of course, she’s still here). Never has someone been so abused by Hollywood and still prevailed and survived with a fairly level head. She’s one of a kind.

I wonder how many times Drew Barrymore has seen this… She was adorable and smart then and now, truly one of my favorite actresses of all time! Specially in 50 First Dates 🥰
I think they used this to promote her own talk show where Drew interviews her 7 year old self. 50 First Dates and Blended are both great successful collabs with Adam Sandler.
I have loved her since the day she was born. And she has risen above obstacles and kept her genuine and real reactions to life that make her the girl next door. Drew is always herself, which is so authentic, compared to others who "try" to be what people want them to be. They can't hold a candle to Drew.
This was nothing less than absolutely amazing. At 7 years old, I was captivated. Her presence is undeniable. And Johnny knew it was a very rare moment for his show as well.
What an enchanting and confident little girl. Drew really was a star even at 7 years old. Its shocking to think that around this age she was partying at the infamous Studio 54, taking drugs and drinking. Its great that Drew managed to turn her life around and never look back. It's lovely to see Johnny engaging so well with Drew. He doesn't patronise or belittle her but speaks to her on a adult level. Wonderful interview

I can easily believe he cared more about how she was feeling throughout this interview than how it looked for the show.
Kindness 🤗
Kind hearted man? Johnny Carson was an abusive drunk to his family and people in show business.
Drew was as cute as a button and so entertaining. That little girl was bursting with personality. Natural born comedian.

Drew is a contemporary of mine so I, of course, never saw this live. However, I heard this interview mentioned over the years and I am just now watching it for the 1st time. What a fantastic interview! She was a precious precocious child and I'm glad that after all she was exposed to, she turned out so well.
Great interview with Drew Barrymore as a kid. Her funny, charming and sweet personality that comes so natural is a winning combination.
I just love Drew Barrymore. It's surprisingly incredible that she still has the same mannerisms when she is live on instagram, the same charm. What an incredible woman she is. ♥️♥️
Yep. True class on display here.
thanks for mentioning instagram. I have to look for her there.

Hello there, how are you doing today
He's her Godfather
He didn't keep much of an eye on her, as she was going to clubs at age 9, and given booze and drugs.
I’m interested, you say drew had a tough time after et, what happened to her?
@@sweetmisvixen she basically was on her own from age 8. Her mom was busy partying etc. Drew became a drug addict by the time she was 11, by herself at Hollywood parties and hanging with people much older than her. In her late teens she was in rehab and got herself figured out, but went through a lot of stuff in those 10 years. I'm proud of her for coming out stronger and whole. Many child actors don't make it
Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderfull. She did not change and this is why everybody loves her.
So precious... brought tears to my eyes...the pure love and innocence of a child is the most precious gift .💖
One of the most adorable things I've ever seen.
She's a sweetheart even today.
She is such a sweetheart! Like an innocent angel you couldnt get enough of. What an iconic conversation
She was soooo expressive even at 7! Man i would love to have someone like her as my friend!

I agree with you, Ryazan! I sure miss Johnny Carson and all the old guys I guess!!! I’m 73… How old are you?
AMEN to that! There are no more TALK shows.
“Do you know what a commercial is?”
“Of course I do. I’m in some.” 🤣
A dumb question to ask any child actor!
Carson has a way in his interviews, especially with children, to draw people out and really "communicate" so well with them. He never talks over anyone as some will do, and he always keeps things wonderfully positive! We lost a great communicator when he passed.
mmmm.mmm?.
He always treated guests with the utmost respect. He never tried to be the “ star”. Miss him big time!
That's why he was far better than David Letterman and others
He seemed kinda creepy to me but not tryna speak I’ll of the dead
Lol " hi Steven, I love you!" I wonder if Steven is alive and remembers this interview. 😂
Drew was and still has this amazing personality. She has captivated everyone’s heart ..
Hi
💯% Adorable!
This is sooooooo cute, Drew is a living doll. What a joy it is watching this interview. Grace from Canada
Nothing cute about giving a small child cocaine and alcohol at an awards ceremony after party when they won awards for ET the film many many stars there sat and laughed. Still think its cute. 🇬🇧👍 Oh including Stephen Spielberg.

He doesn’t make any wisecracks. He treats the seven year old with the same respect, and he can be on the save wavelength - notice when Drew put her cheek on her hand he’s unconsciously mirroring the gesture - and make her relax. I miss him.
me too
I saw this a long time ago. I don’t think she is anything more than true to herself. She seems to still be the sweetest, open and generous person as an adult. She hasn’t sold herself. I congratulate her spirit. Sending her admiration & respect.
Hello Donna, how are you doing?
She was such a personable little girl. What must she be thinking when she sees herself, watching that today. When you normally see child actors interviewed, they seem to just be "little kids", but Drew had such a great personality at such a young age. It's no surprise that she continued her career out of childhood and further as an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed this clip.
I agree ,it makes everyone think they want a little girl as she was absolutely adorable ,and sugar and spice. 🥰🤗
She made you wanna watch her! And listen 👍🏿 Her delivery is amazing! Timing is spot on! She thinks b4 she talks😉

I thought it was nice when she fell and he told her adults had done that too...
I have loved her since the day she was born. And she has risen above obstacles and kept her genuine and real reactions to life that make her the girl next door. Drew is always herself, which is so authentic, compared to others who "try" to be what people want them to be. They can't hold a candle to Drew.
