  • In 1981 I had a studio near the old Fair Oaks bridge. Dennis Jones, A personal recruiter from Cable Data, paid me a visit one day wanting to know if I would be interested in coming to work for the company. He went on to explain that Bob Mathews, president of Cable Data, was in need a of a fine arts artist to work with him in developing a graphics program for what was going to be the very first addressable cable box in the cable industry. I was intrigued to be sure but told him that I knew nothing about computers. “Oh don’t worry about that,” Dennis told me, “we’ll teach you what you need to know about computers, What Bob needs now is your artistic skills and insights.”
Soon I was working for Cable Data. Initially Bob Mathew’s wasn’t quite ready for me, so for my first month or so with the company, I was assigned to the graphics department team. The graphics team, consisting of Bob Stobner, Lisa and Randy, took me under their wings and I was given a crash course in old school graphic design and layout. They were a wonderful team to work with and I’m grateful for the experience.
This video is a hodge podge assortment of video clips of my time at Cable Data and the development of a team for the building of the HTU graphics department and our eventual move to a brand new building in the Rancho Cordova area. I thank all of my awesome co-workers who put up with my video camera.
