In 1981 I had a studio near the old Fair Oaks bridge. Dennis Jones, A personal recruiter from Cable Data, paid me a visit one day wanting to know if I would be interested in coming to work for the company. He went on to explain that Bob Mathews, president of Cable Data, was in need a of a fine arts artist to work with him in developing a graphics program for what was going to be the very first ...

Casa Roble Class of 1973 Graduation
มุมมอง 3913 หลายเดือนก่อน
At the time Cindy and I graduated from Casa Roble High School (Class of 1973) my future father-in-law, Brian O'Neal, shot about 3 minutes of 8mm home movie film of our graduation. Rather short and it's a bit of a tease to watch, but I'm in hopes that our class, the class of 1973, will enjoy getting to see even a couple of moments. As you can see from the footage I was going with the prettiest g...

Sunrise Mall Artshow July 27, 1990

Many years ago I traveled the Art Show Circuit around the country. Met lots of artist and sold hundreds and hundreds of paintings. I shot a little video at an Art Show held at Sunrise Mall in Fair Oaks, CA on July 27, 1990. I was planning on catching more of the artist at the show, but it turned out to be a great show (sales wise) and I was just much too busy selling paintings to shoot video. M...

Thank you so much for posting this! I used to go to Farmer Bob’s each October as a kid in the late 90s/early 2000s with my mom and sister and absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed their haunted house - I still have very vivid memories of a particularly scary room in that house that had black/white checkered strobe lights flashing all over the floor, walls and ceiling, which both frightened and excited me a lot. I miss Farmer Bob’s greatly but am very glad to have the memories.
So glad that you found this video and that it brings back some fond memories for you. I share your sentiment.🙂
Thank you for the video. I only got to visit the Ackermansion once or twice, and I don't think I brought a camera...wait...I did..a disposable, but I don't know what became of it. I noticed in the basement, hanging from the ceiling as you enter, one of the puppets from Peter Jackson's Meet the Feebles. Incredible man and collection.
May I use some of your footage for a future project? I will mention the credits in your name. It’s tough to find 49er drive in theatre footage in the internet. Thank you
Said the same jokes for decades
I love this video! I started as a Quickdata programmer in March 1986. I ended up working on the Cable Computer system. I think they renamed the HTU to the Cable Computer. We were migrating the system from the Tandem to the Quickdata. Bob Matthews died not long after and the Cable Computer project was canceled. The only person I really recognized in that group was Tom Presinger who was in CAPS when I started. I think the group was named Cable Games in 86. I remember Jed Bitner, Jeff Bradshaw, Guy Banchero worked in it in the Foxhole. Chuck Clupper gave me an old HTU to put in the Cabledata museum. Sure would like to find it.
A lot going on in CableData at that time. Was an interesting, fun, and stressful period.
hmmm wonderful to see some care put into these signs. i wish they'd kept the hand painted charm of the letters but glad it's lit again. Was always delighted by the simplicity of that sign with the sun/moon orb and what I seem to remember having some hanging oranges painted on the upper right in tribute to the citrus fields that were out there. thanks for making and sharing the video. There were so many great neon signs everywhere that just went into the junk heap and it's so sad. So much design and material wasted. Signs are SO boring now.
Wasn't this on Greenback near Chestnut?
Sorry no. Perhaps you're thinking of The Campfire Cafe which was on the SE corner of Filbert and Greenback? 🙂
I lived by the SkyView Drive in and saw many movies as Friday or Saturdays were movie nights for my family. The Fruitridge drive-in was also close by. The time: 1960s😊
I was surprised to not see anything about the Fruitridge drive-ins on Stockton Boulevard in Fruitridge.
The video mainly delt with the drive-in's we actually had taken video of. However, if you watch the nod to some of the other drive-ins at the very end, we did mention the Fruitridge. Thanks for watching! BJ🙂
So much to take in. FJA had an enormous collection.
Went there once ,while in high school, saw Fritz the Cat
Thanks for making the video. I grew up in Fair Oaks and went there many times. In high school in the 1970s, we'd buy beer at the liquor store around the corner at Greenback and Fair Oaks Blvd before going to the drive-in. I also took my wife of 40 years on our first date to the Sunrise Drive-In to see "Rock and Roll High School". Forgettable movie, but I fell madly in love with her. and married her 5 years later
I remember this
Beautiful i cried i lost my father in 2011 he was 91 years old. But to young to go
Ahh this is wonderful. You do great work.
Would u happen to have 89
Sorry but no.
Wow cool why did he come
It was a promotional for one of the Star Trek movies. Apparently there had been a drawing amongst the various video stores in the area and at least two, perhaps more, video stores won the honor of James Doohan visiting their shop. Back then there were still tons of mom and pop video stores around the country and especially in the Sacramento area. I went to the two video stores I was aware of to see Mr. Doohan. One place of course was "Roy's TV" in Orangevale off Greenback Lane. The other I went to was in Carmichael at 5701-5725 Marconi Ave. in the Oak Leaf Plaza..🙂
Where was this located
Loved this place miss it so so much.
Did you happen to get the project bluebook that was sunrise mall in 70s or 80s
Todd how did he get this is so cool
So glad for todd
I love your videos
I still love drive in my x husband built the roof on Sacramento 6. Martin pfister
Skyview and fruit rice drive in
It was the citrus heights drive in. U have anything on that. And one in south sac
I remember the Citrus Heights Drive-In went there quite often. I wish that we did have images for all of the other drive-ins but sadly we don’t. We didn’t happen to ever take any photos of the others. The only drive-ins that we covered in our video were ones we had images for. At the end of this video, we did mention the names of several other drive-ins that used to be in the area.
I love love love this. Please find out about the drivein off auburn blvd in ch by old Kmart please
WOW, I just found this video of the Sunrise Drive-in It was done so well and brought back many memories. It is sad it's long gone, but you captured that moment in time. One of my regrets is that I didn't go more often. My kids did get to experience from time to time. I MISS THOSE DAYS. Now I do put up a outside screen and watch movies at night. My screen faces the same direction as the Sunrise screen. I hope I get to share it with my grandkids someday. Thank you for this video. If anyone still has speakers from the drive-in, let me know. I would love one
We hated it being tore down..thank u for the memories. Please go to sac 6 sometime with your grandkids if young. We will hate it closing. My grandson is 21 now took him to see up there we watched twice. He loved grandma and him going.
I do not think so. It is brcause the bathrooms got ran down there. I still love the sacramento 6 on 50. Nice to do the the sound thru the radio was way different. I wish they fixed up sac better again..
I have to add we loved sneaking someone in the trunk in .i am sure others did this too..we would giggle alot
I loved this went there alot with my husband in 69 then we took our kids. And graffiti was so cool. And my daughter and nephew and son to see two scary shows melting man and cat people scared them. Lol i laughted at them So much fun. Then when they were real young the play things playing on them. Sat outside with chairs, blankets and in truck in 65 chevy. Thats so so much for this. My husband was a carpenter doing truss work and built the sac 6 drive in, one on greenback walk in by 80 and the one by cal expo the big round dome.
Thanks BJ for inviting me to the Sunrise Drive Inn to see your fond memories with Cindy and the kids I can almost feel like I was there with you guys the pizza 🍕 was delicious and the soda and pop corn man was out of this world I remember when I use to go there I saw many times movies and enjoyed seeing some of my friends back then you gave me a glimpse of a time when I use to live not far from there many wonderful memories that you gave me I remember the movie the hell house and a few other ones hey I liked your painting inside the snack bar I can smell the hot buttered popcorn and pizzas never forget that well your “ Night at the Sunrise Drive Inn” by the way what happened to the land after it was torn down ?
It's now a gated community with homes. They did name the streets after movie stars in remembrance of the Sunrise Drive-In however.
I went to Coleman but I was not old enough during this school year. I did see one of my older brothers in this video. I do remember many of these great staff members. Even though Coleman is no longer there in name, the campus is still there. The site is going through its second year of remodeling. The preschool closed last year and the campus has been and continues to be the home for the California Montessori Project Orangevale Owls.
Wow, do I envy you. It would have been amazing to meet him and see all these artifacts.
Thanks and you're right, it was a most cherished experience.
40 years ago. When electronic engineers and graphic designers wore a suit and tie, with expensive shirt and cuff links, to their Silicon Valley type job.
The new office must have been right near the air base with all those little radar buzzes in the audio. Not done watching yet but man, what an ambitious system. Draw rate looks a bit slow.
I’m glad that ‘you mentioned that. I always thought that it was some communications interference within the building.
It was sort of near the Mather AFB. Periodically, you could watch B-52s touch and go from the 2nd story Building 2.
i recognize the names in this thread and on the video. while i was only 12 and a ‘cable kid’, my mom, vicki, worked with many of you. thanks for composing such a thoughtful video! 😊
Correction Bubble gum packs
In the machines in front of Capri you didn't get bubble gum nor any wrapping . . . just the five cards. 🙂
Thanks for the memories Bj&Cindy for sharing the good times at Capri market with my dad we would talk with Frank and his wife I would go and get the silly putty and the Bible gum I remember seeing Lupe and Jesse Maldonado working in the isles restocking the shelves and Clarance joking with my dad in those days yeah it was fine memories going to Capri market thank you for the pictures and memories of Capri market.
Definitely using this video for family tree school projects🙏🏽🙏🏽
Rest in Peace Frank. You were an amazing grandfather
Perfect soundtrack.
I am in this video very surprise to see this. Didn’t know it was made!
My husband and I love your videos! I was raised in Orangevale and he was raised in Historic Folsom , where we currently reside. We LOVE seeing old footage of our hometowns and can’t wait to see what you upload next!🎉

Thanks for this video I'm a fan and collector of all things of Famous Monsters Of Filmland and Forrest J Ackerman
Another great video BJ! Thank you...
I moved to Orangevale in the 90's. I kind of remember the furniture store...
I remember this like it was yesterday.
Awesome video share thanks I miss Forry ,I never physically met the man but seeing his movie and video appearances readying his timeless FM magazines was enough to tell much about him. Im so glad I was born at the right time to enjoy such a wonderful childhood historical event.
