    Corrections:
    The Inspire 3 is actually C3 not C2 sadly.
    What I should have said in the video is that not all the countries in EASA airspace are the same; these rules are the minimum. Some countries have additional rules, such as in Greece, where you have to do the training and pass an exam to fly even the Mini drones. So please check what they are in your country.
    A question that I’ve seen asked elsewhere is if you declassify the drone and need to replace it with DJI Care refresh after the 1st of January 2024, will the replacement be declassified, too? Unfortunately, it will be C0, and you won’t be able to remove it. So basically, don’t crash next year! 🙃

    I never updated my Mini 3 Pro (or even connected to the internet) because I was afraid of stuff like this. In Croatia, for example, I got permission from local police to fly my drone at an abandoned military outpost. My old DJI drone, though, just would not fly because the area was labeled as a military zone. That is so unbelievably annoying.

    Thank you for this great review. Unfortunately, this is the only reason I sold my Air 2S. Since I primarily fly in urban areas, I needed the C1 label that the Air 3 offered. In addition to the new rules and regulations, I would add that in almost every EASA-regulated country, you also need permission from the Ministry of Defense and from TWR (Tower Control) if you fly near airports. It's getting more and more complicated to fly, and for that, I want to say thank you to all the individuals who flew their drones "responsibly" over the years.

    • @philipbloom
      @philipbloom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flying within the terminal control area of an airport required a clearance for decades. This is not a new thing. If you previously flew within a TCA without first getting a clearance then you were part of the "responsibly" flying crowd.

    • @green.weekends
      @green.weekends ปีที่แล้ว

      I take it you didn't read the comments? The DJI app prompted me to seek approval for my flight even though I was outside the TWR-controlled area, approximately two miles away. This is a new occurrence, as in the past, the app would not prompt for approval if you were outside the controlled zone.

    Here in Australia the only feature of our sub 250g category is to be able to fly within a 5.5km radius of an airport so long as the operator lands the drone immediately when an aircraft is seen/heard flying.
    Other than that all drones below 2kg are bound by the same laws (don’t fly within a 30m radius of a person, never fly over people, fly only during daytime, don’t fly above 120m, maintain visual line of sight, don’t fly in a way that could cause property damage)
    and require the operator to register their drone and become accredited by passing an online test with Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

    These rules are absolutely stupid! I live in the alps, where you basically can't fly if you have a hight restriction. As most often you would take of from the valley. Heck even the 500m limit is annoying. The solution would be to actually get ADS-B to work propperly, and get drones to avoid Aircraft automatically even if they are far away.

  • @fredmagne

    Regarding dowsides, and as you are commenting in your video at around 10:18. In DJI's own "Risk Reminder", they state that:
    "After January 1, 2024, once the C0 label is removed (without Cx label), the aircraft can only fly under specific category (by applying for flight authorization through SORA) and are no longer allowed to fly in A1 environments."
    The last half sentance is the most important. I'm probably wrong, but for me this sounds like I have to stay further away from people (150m), and some other restrictions. But as said, hopefully I'm wrong.

    • @philipbloom
      @philipbloom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I even addressed this. The aim of this video was to make things clear for everyone.
      It’s very bad wording from them. Look at the terms and conditions on the application form. It clearly states you can fly in the a1 open subcategory when declassified.
      If what you are quoting was correct then you would never be able to fly a declassified mini 4 pro drone. You are saying it can’t even fly in the a3 open subcategory and only in the special category. To fly in the special category it needs to have certain hardware specifications which it does not even have!
      It is saying you can only fly over 120m in the special category when declassified which you can’t do with it anyway. It’s very very bad wording. I told them this and they didn’t respond. I tried!
      There are no downsides but if you are worried then it’s easy, don’t do it! I am.
      Thank you. 😊

    Mini 3 Pro is at the end of its life? Let's not kid ourselves, people still fly perfectly fine with Mini 2s. So then the M3P has some life left as well. Even if it doesn't get new features anymore, that's far from the end of its life. Let's not get too caught up in the consumeristic mindset of always "needing" the newest and most shiny thing. Use things until they break. Then repair them if viable. Give products as long a life as possible.

    Just declassified my newly bought DJI Mini 4 Pro drone. It was bought from a local dealer after the 1st of January 2024. So it seems like DJI are not yet enforcing the rule of having to have been buying the drone before the 1st of January, or they are just wanting to act nice to an old slow guy like me.
    Actually I guess DJI has no idea at all regarding when my drone was bought, so not wanting to annoy me in case this drone was actually bought in december as a christmas present from my wife (which would have been a very nice gesture from her - but sadly it was not).
    DJI are not requesting any form of copy of the invoice - only two pictures showing the bottom of the drone before and after removing the C0-label from the drone.
    However this procedure might not be possible for those buying a Mini 4 Pro directly from DJI, since DJI then will know the exact date of purchase.
    I´m extremely happy to now be able to have my drone climb up the norwegian mountains when soon going there again this year. Being limited to only go 120 meters vertically from the point of take-off is nothing in such a place.
    Thanks for the great tip Philip! And for some fantastic reviews - watching your stuff is like going to the cinemas. If I just ever can be that good at using my new drone ...

      DJI will not offer the removal of the C0 label for drones sold from the 1st January 2024. It is on THIS date that the C labels properly kick in, and which will stop them from offering declassification. Look, as I've stated in other comments I researched this to death and had a lot of back and forth with DJI to confirm everything and answers my dozens of questions. They also viewed this video as I wanted to make sure everything was factually correct.
      EVEN if you are right, why I do not believe you are, and they could offer declassification next year, that is up to them and they have said they will not be doing so. Are you deciding whether to declassify yours or to whether will buy one before the end of the year?

      Also, whilst labels will be printed on them if they did offer the ability to have your C0 Mini 4 Pro reclassified on request to C1 in the EU to override the height lock, I am sure it will be fine to put a sticker over the C0. 😊

  • @TheoWerewolf
    @TheoWerewolf ปีที่แล้ว

    When I heard about this I immediately went to start the declassification process, but then stopped for two reasons:
    1. I don't live in the EU and in my country, we get 500m limit now. (Still relevant since I may well want to fly my drone in the EU at some point.)
    2. MOST of my flights are under 120m AGL now. They're also usually in urban areas and over uninvolved people, ie: A1 areas. So C0 is perfect.
    If I declassified and let the drone lapse into C1, I lose the ability to fly over uninvolved people which makes urban flight very tricky to gain the ability to fly to 500m AGL which I almost never do. I'd also have to take operators training and pass tests which isn't the case for C0.
    One note though: You show the C0 restrictions as :
    No flight expected over uninvolved people (if it happens, overflight should be minimised);
    No flight over assemblies of people;
    Maintain flight altitude below 120m above ground level.
    But I'm literally looking at the EASA page right now "How to operate drones in the open category from 01/01/2024 (These provisions already apply to drones with C-class marks)" and that's the C1 restrictions. (civil-drones:drones-regulatory-framework-background:open-category-civil-drones - this is on the EASA Europa EU site... sorry TH-cam doesn't allow embedding links)
    The C0 restrictions are:
    May fly over uninvolved people (should be avoided when possible)
    No flight over assemblies of people

    Hi, Can anyone please guide? Will Air 3 also be having hight restrictions of 120 meter in Europe, when bought after 2024?
    And when bought before 2024, up to what hight can one fly before and after 2024?
    Thanks Guys and Great video Mr. Bloom.

      The height LOCK, not restriction, is limited to the Mini drones. Air 3 is fine.
