  • Kefir grains themselves are made up of many different species of bacteria and yeasts. Within the cell walls of the grains are cellulose microfibrils which are embedded in a polysaccharide matrix consisting of proteins. That's a lot of complicated words, but kefir grains are multi-complex microorganisms. They are mostly fiber and proteins made from milk caseins and I do love them for all they've done for me. Can You Eat Them? Tune in to learn more.

Oh, that's funny! I just came in from cutting and trimming trees with my chain saw! I'm 73 years old and have been using Kefir shakes with fruit and protein for the last ten years. I take care of a large house and hangar with 11 acres of property by myself. I know what you mean about joy, I can't stand myself sometimes because I'm so tickled with my life! I was a dancer until about six months ago and the people said they loved watching me because I was so joyful when I danced. I had to make a choice about caring for my place or dancing. I didn't have time to do both with this large property. I know I couldn't do what I do without the health benefits I receive from my Kefir. Thanks for all the great information! Love your site!

7 years ago I put my kefir grains to sleep, rinsed in milk, dried on the counter for a few hours, rolled and packed in powdered milk and frozen. 3 days ago I pulled them out of my freezer into the fridge for a day, then rinsed them in fresh milk. Started up a new brew, in dark warm cupboard with lid on and 24 hrs later I had delicious, fizzing kefir! Back to nursing my kefir grains again😘

You just enriched my life on a profound level talking about kefir. I don’t have the patience for podcasts and especially lengthy podcasts. But, I haven’t made water kefir since I went to bed for 4 years after many many losses and ended up here. Between your science rich content and your bleeding heart, I feel inspired to get back to rock climbing at Yosemite and eating from the farmers market to lose the 90 lbs. I gained from my situational depression that stemmed from physical infertility that led to mental infertility. These topics all need to be openly discussed and I can tell from your words you truly care about your viewers/subscribers well-being. Many blessings!

Thank you SO much! I have lost 60 lbs in six months and I already feel better, but I know there is more. I found out about milk kefir last week and I already have my grains reactivating! The excitement I am feeling is amazing!

Hi 😀! I’m new to your channel! I found your channel just yesterday! I purchased milk kefir grains , about 4 tbsp , the other day from someone on Craigslist. I made my first kefir yesterday with raw cows milk . I’ve been drinking raw cows milk for over a month now. I had my first taste of the kefir at 18 hrs. It had a slight sour taste but I had 1 glass full of it! I had it plain. The next batch I will let it sit 24 hrs. Thank you for your vids! I am going to make this for my youngest son who is non verbal autistic. ❤

I am one month into my kefir journey thanks to my very health concious daughter!
I googled "what if you have too many kefir grains and you were at the top of the search!
    Yay!
    I can eat them!
I have given 3 batches away.
You encouraged me so much at 66 and lacking zeal and energy.
With the holidays I didn't eat right and put on weight.

Love all your info on milk kefir. You mentioned putting the grains into the freezer. I’ve had success storing them in the fridge for over 2 years. It took probably 4 cycles of kefir making and a 2day soak in non chlorinated water to get the flavor right again but they all survived and are making beautiful delicious kefir from raw goat milk now. I’m excited to try some of your recipes soon!

I wonder if kefir would help make collagen more digestible -- I tried collagen a couple years ago during my pre-kefir life, and it bloated me something awful. LOL, yikes. KEFIR IS THE BEST! I started doing it a year ago when my digestion had been going completely haywire (still don't know what it was, menopause maybe), and I felt a difference immediately and have kept using it since.

Oh _YEAH_ ! I don't recognise myself since I started last October. Best thing that ever happened to me. That and Cod Liver Oil. I take a _huge_ spoonful and then take a swig of Kefir to take the taste away - and no burps aftertaste!

I just posted in a local group I belong to and asked if anyone had any kefir grains or kombucha scoby and within an hour I connected with someone who had some and by the end of the day I had gone to pick them up. She even had some extra supplies and jars that she passed on to me that she said someone had passed on to her and she had more than she needed. Put the word out locally and I bet you will find them. Maybe try going to your local health food store and see if anyone there has some. They multiply so quickly that anyone who makes kefir is going to have some and probably be happy to pass them on.
