  • Find out how important it is to feed your microbes. If your trillions of microbes don’t get what they need, they can start to eat the mucosal lining of the gut, leading to leaky gut, IBS, and more. Find out how to keep them happy and fed.

    Ok so you have solved my mystery. I had made a jay of cultured vegetables with LOTS of garlic. I let it fermented as usual. Then refrigerated it. About a month later I opened the jar and it was as fizzy as my water kefir. I did not know the reason for this but now I do. Thank you for sharing. 🇨🇦😎

    There are a lot of people who have been on a very low carb diet for a very long time with no stomach issues. Some of them don't even eat vegetation of any kind. Some have become strict carnivores. They have found many of their problems in their gut and health resolved doing this. I don't agree with it, but everyone is different. I am thankful for the keto diet because it basically saved my life.

      Everyone's healing journey is different and everyone should go with their gut involving their body and their lives! Happy to hear it worked for you!

    I do ketogenic diet for my diabetes, so I don't eat grains. However, I do eat nuts, seeds, veggies, and some fruits. I don't think we need the fiber in grains, but I do believe veggies are important.

    Thank you Donna! All this time they told us to eat these good foods but nobody explained it that it's food for your good bacteria! Just great!
    Recently, I was reading about lectines and how nightshades are rich of them.. What are your thoughts on this?

      Everyone's body is different. and fermentation does change whatever food is being fermented. so you'd have to listen to your body and see what works for you :)

    Great video. Many thanks Donna. What is your understanding of plain air popped popcorn as a source of resistance starch. I have read mixed things about it’s value as a good source of resistance starch as food for good 30:17 microbial health.

    Could you do a podcast about Histadine or histamine intolerance? Some people can't tolerate fermented foods

    • @2711marcus
      @2711marcus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patti Hansen Yes fermented foods are very high in histamine. Histamine intolerance only affects a small percentage of people, about 1% so if you eat fermented foods and get allergy symtoms this could be causing it.

      Hi Mark I have a great article to share about this.
      Often what is mistaken as a histamine reaction is actually a detox or healing crisis reaction. As these foods are so powerful and will cleanse and detox the body which can be uncomfortable in the beginning. Also fermented foods is a broad term used to cover from everything to wine , cheese, kraut, beer, pickles and more. While all cultured/lacto fermented foods are fermented not all fermented foods are cultured. Wine, beer, certain cheeses, shelf stable kraut and pickles are fermented but have no beneficial bacteria and are made with vinegars and high eat creating a very different food. Also those with a histamine intolerance have an imbalance in the gut and one the best ways to fix that is with probiotic foods. So there is a bit of mis understanding when it comes to histamine. Here is an article to help: healinghistamine.com/histamine-safe-ferments/

    Hi Donna... I cant seem to sleep as im so fascinated with how simple you are making this, and how amazing it sounds. Have you explained somewhere about the low fodmaps diet? Does the probiotics feed the bad bugs too??? What if you have SIBO??? THANKS!!!

    • @CulturedFoodLife
      @CulturedFoodLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Miss! I don't have any articles on the Foodmaps at the point. The probiotics can only feed the good bacteria/yeasts and making their numbers higher is the only way to crowd out the bad bugs. We love Dr. John Bergman and he has a great video on SIBO you will enjoy: th-cam.com/video/XPXclbw7Omk/w-d-xo.html

    I would like to know how people who only eat animal foods and zero plants can thrive on such a diet without fiber. The Hunza tribe and several other indigenous tribes who only eat meat, milk and some animal blood thrive and have very healthy microbiomes. I myself have been eating a zero plant, carnivore diet for years and am thriving. I do have yogurt and raw milk kefir, but no plant fiber.

      thats my question too. From what I have heard from some long term carnivores is that after awhile your gut biome changes to match what you are eating. So maybe its a difference between low carb vs carnivore. Like having some fiber/veg but not enough has a bad reaction but being carnivore your gut changes completely? Dana with Zero Carb Life says you cant be 98% carnivore that you are either 100% or you will have issues.
