Thanks for providing this really important nformation.
I have some Yogourmet freeze dried starter sachets. Unfortunately the packet doesn't say powered or grains, but from memory, it was definitely a powder when I used it last.
I have re seeded various batches and while it always turns into a yoghurt, it never quite tastes or looks like the original after a few batches. Your video has highlighted the reason why!
Thank you. I will now start a search for some quality grains!

With the powder, you can make many batches too. Just like with yogurt. I just make sure I leave about 1 tablespoon in the jar and fill it with fresh warm milk and leave it on my counter overnight. In the morning, the jar goes to the fridge after scooping a portion for my husband’s oatmeal.
The taste is just the same.

      Hi
The powder only makes about 8 batches per scoop and also has way less probiotics than the everlasting self reproducing grains!

I now have live water kefir grains rehydrating and will be likely relying on this channel and your very simple, clear, and no-nonsense explanations and directions for water and milk kefir. If the water batch I am rehydrating now work, I will likely also get a milk version going.

Thank you for sharing this information. I had purchased water kefir grains by cultures for Health (dehydrated) and followed the instructions word for word to activate them. They never did. Instead they looked identical to when I started (only wet instead of dry) and the smell and taste was not pleasant. I reached out to the company and they were nice enough to send me a replacement and highly suggested I use bottled spring water vs my pitcher filtered water that we drink daily. Honestly I don’t like to buy bottled water that’s been sitting on shelves in plastic and can’t imagine not being able to use filtered water. Any suggestions? I’d like to try this again but only if my filtered water is an option. Thank you

Hello, thank you so much for this informative video! I am planning to start making kefir and use it instead of protein powder as a source of protein in my daily diet. I am trying to figure out how much protein the kefir will have. Do you think that the kefir will simply have the same amount of protein that the milk originally had, or does the fermentation process increase or decrease the amount of protein in the kefir? Thank you for your insight!

    • @CleanFoodLiving

Hello again, I have a follow-up question. If I let the kefir ferment for a long time so that it becomes thick and separates from the whey water on the bottom, will the protein from the milk be in the thick kefir, or in the whey water, or both. I was hoping to just eat the thick kefir like yogurt, but if the protein is in the whey water then I suppose I will need to drink that too. Thank you for your insight!

Your grains will tell you if it's an issue. It may 'shock' them a bit, but it won't kill them. For your next 2 batches, do a 50/50, 3rd batch 75/25, 4th batch onward: 100% raw. More of a gradual transition.

Sometimes activating grains in raw milk can be too strong for them if they were initially cultivated in 'regular' milk... and they have to also compete with the microbes in the raw milk while in their weakened state from shipping. Once they are strong, raw milk is not a problem. If it's all you have, go ahead and use it and see if it goes all-ok. It may be just fine.👍

I bought dehydrated kefir grains from cultures of health, three times and all three times my water and milk kefir grains did not take. They refused to grow and multiply and provide me with kefir for milk and Kiefer water. So I ended up buying milk live kefir grains, I don’t remember from who or where and they took off. I also bought live supposedly water, kefir grains, and they did it not multiply at all. And they came in a baggie. I don’t like that and I thought I was getting it from reputable source according to the Internet. So I stick with my kombucha, that I started myself-from store bought 100% no additives and created my own scabbiest.
