For 35 long years I wanted to get sober I went to church, prayed , confessed but could not stay sober. Then 16 years ago I studied the 12 steps and 12 traditions and went to meetings and within one month God took away my obsession to drink a miracle happen. Ever since then I have never had the craving for a drink or any substance abuse. Praise the Lord . I still today go to my meetings.
Thank you for sharing. You are true to God and to yourself. Well done. I hope you are able to help others in their quest. Just being able to help one person in some way whatever that is, would be a way to give back. It doesn’t have to be in the same way. I hope you are ok with me making that recommendation.
It was a miracle, Muriel. God bless you 😊 Stay sober & strong. I, too, have that disease. I’ve been gone from the Catholic Church for decades. When I started AA (a couple years back), I needed a higher power. Well, guess who came along? Jesus Christ himself! I experienced a miracle as well. My life is so blessed since I’ve returned to the church and accepted God truly loves me. Also, the help and support of AA has been of tremendous value to me. I still go to meetings. I’ve made wonderful friends there.
Not everyone needs meetings. If you need meetings god bless you but most people control their drinking without meetings. It’s called self control and it is commanded to us by God.
Yeah, and lots of people saw the sun dance in the sky when Mary reappeared, did you hear about it? Did you? Do you believe their testimony? Well OK then. You don't have to doubt their sincerity to know they've gone haywire
Amen. Christianity is a proclamation. We do "muse" about our insights in relation to certain doctrinal issues from time to time, but centrally we proclaim our believed fact that Christ has died and risen.
Yes. Something really big happened. Let's use our logical thinking. Don't be judgemental. Think, think, think. It was wonderful, amazing, and enormous to take but yet very simple. Love, love, and keep loving.
Giving thanks on this day of Thanksgiving - hearing Bishop teach the heart of christianity is the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ - counting blessings, mass is available today & every day
We should be grateful of the unearned advantage we have in Christ's revalation, and marvel and glorify God for the profound traditions which have reached some truth about God, even *without* a direct acquaintance with Christ. What a wonderful thing - the Spirit is with all our brothers and sisters throughout the world.
The questions asked by others in academia: "How did this happen?" and "Why did this happen?" and "Why don't some people actually believe that it happened?" Jesus Christ is Real. Thank you Bishop Barron.
I think the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is symbolic of a spiritual change Jesus went through. When the brow Chakra awakens, the self dies(the crucifixion). And then when the crown Chakra awakens, there is a rebirth(the resurrection).
I'm Greek Orthodox. I think deeply about things every day. The Greeks invented thinking deeply, I suggest you do it daily. After you pray, of course. 🙏
All others are WORKS BASED. We know we cannot earn salvation by our good deeds…or at least we should know. Good works only validate our faith not supplement it
You say that like that is something to be proud of. Imagine parading the notion that believing something without good reasons is what saves you, but actually doing good things cannot.
La ilaha illallahu muhammadur rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam believe in Allah Allah is one and only Allah says do not die without being a Muslim 🥺
The Good News was that The Prophecy was fulfilled that The Messiah would come, And that ALL men could be Reconciled to GOD... "...Mat 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people..."
I mean yea cuz the gospels are biographies of Jesus. Why wud they hve people ruminating about ultimate things 🤦♂️. There are other parts of the Bible where people are doing that all the time.
@@matthewschmidt5069Sure, so if you can just demonstrate that a god could possibly exist, then that it does exist and then what it’s capable of. Take your time, start at the beginning and work your way through.
If there was a world wide flood, where even Mt. Everest (which is 8.86km tall) was submerged, there would have to have been at least 3.25 times more water that is currently in the world. So, where is all that water now? Where are the extra 3.25 oceans stored?
You're asking the wrong questions. Christians from the time of st Augustine have known that large parts of the old testament were allegorical, we have a direct quote from him in the second century and it's so taken for granted we can assume it was understood long before that. This is why we have a tradition preserved by a magisterium, to tell us what's a metaphor and what people actually saw happen, along with how we should respond to that. Also as far as Noah's ark goes travel in the ancient world was remarkably slow, and the biblical authors often use "the world" to mean "the parts of the world that they can get to/know about with some level of certainty" this isn't in every case but in a lot of them. If we take this meaning then we can understand this as a huge regional flood, pretty likely given that the biblical story spends a lot of time in mesopotamia. Ultimately though Noah's ark is a heavily symbolic story about baptism, this is the predominant reading in catholic circles. The fundamentalist reading of scripture didn't take root until the rise of biblical fundamentalism and non- denominationalism, in about the early 18th century.
Not even close. Buddhism is EXACTLY the same way. The third of the Four Noble Truths is literally the GOOD NEWS that suffering/dissatisfaction can be eliminated. That _includes_ the suffering of life _and_ the suffering of death!
@grantc9012 Your ignorance is astounding. Isn't bearing false witness a sin? I suggest you think long and hard before responding. When Siddhartha became the Buddha under the Bohdi Tree, his mind entered into the state of Nirvana. This was what is meant by the third Noble Truth. This was 100% an EVENT-an event that has happened multiple times before and since. The only difference is that humanity _always_ forgets the teachings of the last Buddha and requires yet another being to achieve Nirvana to remind them that complete cessation of _Duḥkha_ is possible. You are too locked into _Saṃsāra_ in this lifetime (that much is obvious) so I don't expect you to be capable of even a provisional compression of the Buddha's Dharma. But it would be a good idea for you not to spread falsehoods if you would like to meet YHWH at the pearly gates, right? _Namo Buddhaya_
@ If a good idea popping into a person’s head counts as an event, then every religion would fall into this category. But that’s obvious not the distinction Bishop Barron is referring to. He’s talking about things people can tangibly witness, such as miracles performed and people rising from the dead.
@grantc9012 In Buddhism, _everything_ understandable to human beings is "just an idea popping into someone's head". Your birth, the moon landing, Jesus's resurrection-all of these are _events_ that only exist in the mind. The physical atoms that made up Jesus's body may or may not have reanimated-but that's irrelevant because nobody could tell anyone else about such a physical event without witnessing it, understanding it, remembering it, and telling it to others-all of which are mental processes-i.e. IDEAS. If you think Nirvana is ANY different then you are beyond the ability to educate. I asked that you be more careful before you responded to avoid bearing false witness. It seems my warning fell on deaf ears. You have CLEARLY demonstrated a willingness to engage with others in bad faith and act dishonestly for your faith. Just admit that you don't know what you're talking about and study so that you do or at least stop walking around in complete ignorance of your own ignorance so you'll stop bearing false witness. Otherwise, I have a three strike rule when interacting with people like you who are too ignorant to know their own ignorance-and that was strike two. One more false statement made out of ignorance and I'm done wasting any more time talking to you. I _really_ hope you will choose your next words carefully this time.
I'm no bishop but I'm a practising catholic for who reads pretty well.
