This was their salute on Veteran’s Day a year ago. The arrangement is from a Finnish a capella group (club for Five, I may have the name wrong). Tim contacted them about their arrangement, and they gave it to him, no charge. Tim tweaked it a little for Home Free, and gave us this masterpiece!

Brothers in Arms" is a ballad by British rock band Dire Straits, the closing track on their fifth studio album of the same name, released on 18 October 1985.
It was written in 1982, the year of Britain's involvement in the Falklands War.
The Falklands militia was held under arrest, by the Argentinian army - and the population of the Falklands was less than 2000.
In the song, there is an opening riff of a thunder-storm i.e. rain. There is also mention of mountains and lowlands, as well as farming.
This song hits me hard, as well as being British, I’m also a vet of the Armed Forces.
It reminds me of my tour in Afghanistan.
When I hear “Brothers in Arms”, I don’t just think of us British, but I also think of my other brothers from the US, Danish, and Swedes who were by our side’s.
    This song transcends multiple wars.
    Kind Regards

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

I hear you about honoring those who served, who gave their lives (as you say, regardless of one's personal beliefs about war in general or specific wars and conflicts) for one day doesn't seem enough.
As someone else commented, there is a month for Military Appreciation.
But even if there wasn't, I think shutting the entire country and government down for a whole day is a better honor than naming a month in their honor where the month will pass by with the majority of folks not even realizing it.
Even the most oblivious are forced to notice when the schools, banks, work, closes down, and thousands, maybe tens of thousands of acts of honor from planting flags on graves to breakfast services to, at least in our little island off the coast of Maine, a parade and a full day of events, some somber, but all celebrating ours who "went there, gave all".
I'm proud to say I was in one of those parades, maybe 15 years ago. I marched as part of the Women's Auxillary of our American Legion Outpost, and my dog was the honorary Canine Corp. Picture a super giant Great Dane high stepping to the band, tossing his head in time to the music, darn near stealing the entire show.
I'll spare you the details of the military history of both my biological and adoptive families, give the gist to support my thought.
Even though I'm mainly a pacifist, I grew up enough somewhere along the line to be humbly unspeakably proud of their enormous and heroic efforts. Since on my adoptive side I have relatives who served from the revolutionary War straight down to my nephew who recently served 7 years on a nuclear submarine.
Don't know as much about my bio family, but know my bio father did 4 tours in Vietnam in the Marines, my brother was a marine, my cousin in the Navy, and brother-in-law served in the airforce in the Persian Gulf War.
And then there's my Native American grandmother's ancestors, about how they may or may not have fought for which causes or why I know nothing.
All these soldier relatives generally admit being conflicted, not necessarily realizing what they were actually fighting for, or their reasons for enlisting in the first place. And I'll leave it at that.
So yeah, I'll take one whole day, rather than the too easily overlooked or ignorable month where those who understand or served or lost loved ones console and celebrate and remember with each other. And everyone else goes obliviously about their life, not tuning in to the occasional Military Appreciation Month special program on network TV.
God, I weep so easily! Sorrow, awe, pride.
Thanks for an awesome reaction. I watch many, but I can honestly say I find yours the most thoughtful, intelligent, thought provoking. Heck, you take notes! How rare and special is that!

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal)
Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound

      @thomasmacdiarmid8251 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The two versions are so very different. Knopfler's guitar moaning and wailing is examplary. HF though makes the entire poetry so clear, as they almost always do, and you just can't beat HF's harmonies.

As the daughter if a WW2 vet and the mother of a retired Marine Iraqi war vet, I am in complete agreement with you. These men and women deserve more than 2 days(I am including Veteran's Day) a year. Most people don't even notice Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day is an excuse to party and get the boat out. Even those who survive will never be the same....either physically, mentally or emotionally. Those boys who landed in Normandy were kids....who'd never left their home state, or even their home town. Never fell in love, never married, never became dads....and they died within minutes of landing. We are teetering on the brink of war again. When will we discover.....nobody wins?😢

Pentatonix is a big Acapella group, but a lot of reaction channels don't do them because Sony blocks a lot.
Voctave is another, but I don't see much of them.
Peter Hollens and Jared Hayley are neat to listen to because they are one man choirs. They tape layers of themselves singing and put them together.

Not as well known but definitely among the best dynamics and group harmonies you’ll ever want to hear I highly recommend Voctave. They do a lot of Disney (many of the group sing for Disney), some broadway and also have lots of glorious Christmas music.
Pick anything and you’ll be amazed but their latest video Disney Villains and Heroes is phenomenal to hear the guys all solo and for the ladies the Disney Princess medley. Two absolute musts are: You Will Be Found (done during Quarantine) and The Prince of Egypt medley (audio only). I can’t wait for your jaw to drop when you discover this wonderful group!! 🎶

Sort of like a big pipe organ.

My son suffered life changing injuries in Helmand Province 2009. I’m supposed to be normal. Nah. I’m gone. However I’m a good actor .

I know this is a 6 month old reaction, but I was wondering do other countries have a flag like our ~POW*MIA You Are Not Forgotten~ flag?

This is a song about the sensekessness of modern warfare and yet evhoes a sentiment held by the common warrior throughout the annals of time.
The use if lighting to shiw light oassing through the singers shiws the ghostsof those who have akways fought only to find on the battlefield that you fo not fight for a flag or fir piliticians. You fight fir that warriorby your side snd do has it been inall battkes.

Wait...what? Didn't I hear in another video you were German? But thank you. Not a day. We have Black History Month Feb...the shortest month of the year). We have Native American's DAY. We have Memorial DAY. We have Labor DAY. We have Veterans DAY...But we have Gay Pride MONTH. Something is really screwy here. Not a homophobe...I have MANY gay friends...But maybe if we made more attention to our current and past troops they'd get the he help they need

By the way, Military Appreciation month is May! It was designated as an appreciation month in 1999.
