What do I think? I think this song once again clearly and objectively demonstrates Home Free is a national treasure. Perhaps the only hair splitting we have here is the exact jewels on display which can vary on a per song basis.

It is very good of course I don't think anything home free does is rubbish the first song I hurd from them was In The Blood that hooked me and I've been a fan of there ever since then I think that that song was there latest at the time so that tells you how long I've listened to them .Now the Original by dia Straits the music gets me it's like I drift off and all the shadows of that war come back to me when it first came out in 85 it made me very angry I could not stand it I had to get away from it then I realised that I had PTSD and this was a symptom so by forcing myself to listen to the song and excepting it it amongst therapy helped me deal with my PTSD so now when I hear the song I don't go into an uncontrollable rage

this *IS* a masterpiece, well at least to my amatuer ears. The harmonies are off the charts, and I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a better 5-part harmony than this one. Some people dismiss Home Free as "country bumpkins" but this proves these guys are serious artists & are truly professional vocal artists. This is a cover of a Dire Straits 1985 hit, written by Mark Knopfler, to memorialize the more than 600 British Royal Marines, Royal Navy & Royal Army troops that lost their lives in the 1982 Falklands War between the UK & Argentina

This was a cover of a Dire Straights song. That was released in 1985. It was written about the British, Argentine war over the Falklands Island. The story is told from the perspective of a soldier talking to his comrades as he is dying. Verse 1 he tells that this mountain will be his home when he dies. Verse 2 he glad that his fellow soldiers did not desert him even though he is mortally wounded. Verse 3 talks about the different cultures they come from and that they should not kill are fellow brother in arms. This is one of Home Free’s best releases that they put out.

    Just found your channel.
Just watched your reaction to Man of Constant Sorrow and loved it. It's nice hearing someone that knows music and especially vocal music!
I'm an old guy that's been in vocal music all his life and have played blues harmonica for 50+ years and Adam Shupp could have saved me hundreds of dollars had he shown me how he does that a cappela!
Tim is a basso profundo that can also sing tenor as he did in that Christmas song. (can't remember the title)
His vocal cords must be a foot long. lol
Anyway, you have a new subscriber!

Ghosts singing unto the Lord their understanding and regret. This was written for the dead of the Falklands War but was gifted by the Finnish arrangers to Home Free. The number of American Soldiers I worked with from 1990 to 2014 who yearned deeply for the closeness of the Brotherhood of Arms they experienced and felt lost without it until they found their way home. The depth of understanding of the heartache of the other side’s Brothers.
Not a sad song, a hymn gifted to the Lord, of understanding a truth.

You need to listen to this again. You unfortunately paused just as Tim’s bass was about to sound like a pipe organ with the other harmonies in at least two occasions.
As a retired Vietnam vet this really hits hard.

I’ve gone back and listened more and you are totally right about thr pipe organ. Wow amazing! Thanks for watching and especially Thank You for your sacrifice and service. It means a lot. I organize a big assembly where we bring in Veterans for Veterans Day and we give them a free breakfast and we have other activities. It a small way to say thank you but they really appreciate it. I’m lucky that I can do that for them.

A farmer from the Lowlands figures he'll grow old and be buried there. Then he and his mates answer a call to arms. Sent to the mountains to make war on an enemy and his brothers in arms, he falls. As life fades, he knows he will never see home again.
Played out in wars down through time, the symbolism of the singers having light pass through them lets us know we are listening to the voice of the fallen.

Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits wrote this song in 1985 for the Falklands War. It's the POV of a young soldiers fatally wounded on the battlefield whose 'brothers in arms' won't leave him as long as he's still alive even though they're putting themselves in danger. In the 35+ years I've been listening to the song, first by Dire Straits, then by Home Free, it has never failed to bring tears to my eyes. The lyrics, the sadness to the music always goes straight to my heart.

I guess the thing about this song, and Dire Straits for that matter, is that Mark Knoffler has a bard like quality, he's always telling a story . Added to that is his guitar work that delivers emotion. If you haven't heard the original , you're missing out. That said , the vocal in this ,brought tears to my eyes.....AMAZING!!!!

This song is so good it's like a punch in the gut! You should react to Home Free singing Elvira with the Oak Ridge Boys. Tim hits a low note in that song that's almost sub audible! They did the arrangement such that everyone else stopped at that moment otherwise you wouldn't have been able to hear it! Lot's of fanboy stuff in that video too! Very cool!

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

I loved your reaction... but just a slight hint. You absolutely killed the build to the low drop by Tim, pausing where you did. When you pause to speak, before you start the video again, go back 10 seconds, then play on. What you have to say is great, and really interesting, but lost when you lose the big builds by a pause.

I am a devoted fan, what they call a "home fry", I think. It has been my experience that very many men are afraid to acknowledge how great these men are... as though they might come off as weak if they actually expressed their admiration. They took a Dire Straits masterpiece and did not un-masterpiece it. They gave it a new dimension of masterpiece. The word "outstanding" seems too tame for many of their renditions of the songs we all love. Vocal heroes... each of them. Closer to outright impeccable than most musicians get these days. Mark Knopfler wrote the song a few hundred years ago, and I've listened to him sing and play it a few hundred times, too. So I do know what I'm saying.

Thank you again. Another great message song they did in the summer of the BLM protest marches was incredible, Everybody Walkin' This Land. Another one that leaves you shaking your head. We are very blessed by Home Free. So many fun ones besides these serious ones but they know how to grab your heart for sure! Some of these chords are like an organ, especially the final one. Another great one, lighter lyrics, Bless the Broken Road is great; End of the Road is incredible...where to stop? lol. Take care.

I founded you with snarky Puppy and Dirty loops, who I follow this amazing group's over years, dirty loops I remember when they published the cover of Baby - Justin Bieber, and Dirty loops in the same feeling, over and over years ago... but I come here to recomend one of my favorite masterpieces of music, Zhivago - kurt rosenwinkel & OJM, is really really awesome! Until today I can find something new when I watch it. It's so satisfying and gorgeous, it's jazz orchestral, it's beautiful! Take your time to react this one, you should be like it! A small town kid from the Lowlands plans on living and dieing there until he needs the call to arms. Sent halfway around the world to fight in the mountains and falls there. As Life ebbs away, he realizes he will never see his beloved Lowlands again. He will die there. Thus, "These mist-coveted mountains are a home now for me but my home is the Lowlands and always will be".
