LEGO Star Wars 75383 Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator is far from the first time that this particular starship has been given the LEGO treatment. In fact, the Sith Infiltrator has been reliably revisited ever five to ten years over the past two and a half decades.
This makes it a logical choice for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, but its selection does also raise a lot of questions. How does it compare to previous iterations of this model? Why have we still never had a Nubian Royal Starship? Where is Padme, arguably the main character of The Phantom Menace? How has Darth Maul managed to become such a merchandising juggernaut despite so little time on-screen?
Join us as we delve deeper into the LEGO Sith Infiltrator iceberg than is probably wise.
PS: Also, when are we going to get a proper double-bladed lightsaber hilt? It's been twenty-five years! Get on it, LEGO designers! - บันเทิง
The Sith infiltrator, the Luke Landspeeder's of the Phantom Menace. You get 5 minutes of screen time and get at least 5 lego sets.
It’s a cool ship tho
This set needed Padme, R2 and naked C3-PO.🤠
No, it needed Jar Jar
"We've all got a Sith Infiltrator"
well with that statement you really showed why lego keeps making them every 6-8 years. Its iconic, it has a cool pilot figure, and KIDS OF CERTAIN AGE don't yet have it. The fact that adult lego collectors ALSO buy it despite already having it is just icing on the profit cake.
I would count as an adult lego collector and this will be the first I buy. I just missed out on the last one.
Definitely should have had a Padme. A naked C3PO would be good also.
I think the Jedi Council chamber would have been a good set for the anniversary. And opens up the chance for new figures.
This is such a great video and I agree with how the majority of it is analyzed, although… I hate to be THAT guy, but…
Lucas eventually did clarify that the title of the film refers to Palpatine - the grand puppet master hiding his true identity, behind his facade.
I’d guess that the reason Darth Maul is used in so much of the marketing is because of how “cool” he looked - and to take it a step further, I’d blame this for the reason why he’s always incorrectly referred to as “The Phantom Menace” - because of how much he’s been associated visually with the title.
The true Phantom Menace is definitely the LEGO employee that keeps suggesting that they produce yet another Sith Infiltrator… 😅
Or that they suggested to not include Watto with this version.
Not enough likes or comments here. Let's fix that.
Well, I for one am quite happy to get my first Sith infiltrator. I wasn’t much into Lego Star Wars for the previous versions, and I’m glad it’s coming out now.
Were people actually calling for a Watto? uh yeah dude plenty were. There are limited opportunities to get the more obscure characters made. Even if not included in the Sith Infiltrator set, a Watto's workshop would have been far better GWP than the army builder droid carrier that would work better as a set.
I guess ultimately since LEGO chooses to keep replaying the hits, they should at the very least nail them. Why is Maul missing a hood and cape and why does the box art show his double bladed saber? Did the design team even watch episode 1? May seem like nitpicks but the designers constantly harp on "every detail counts" when it clearly does not.
YES I WANT ANOTHER WATTO!
It all comees down to 1 word: PLAY.
Lego releases minifigures based on playability now. You can’t play with a new Queen Amidala minifigure. But you can play with Darth Maul. Same goes for all of the 25th anniversary minifigures. There is no play value for kids in a new Queen Amidala minifigure, but there is some for Padme as she was seen in action in Episode 2 and Clone Wars, which is why they released her in those outfits only.
Collectability is not a priority. Play value comes firsts, display value second, and they don’t care about you having a broader variety in your collection. There are a few exceptions such as the release of Mon Mothma, gold C-3PO, helmet collections etc. but you can generally see how nearly every other set is referenced or can be imagined as an action scene in the world of Star Wars. Darth Malak vs Clone Troopers? Hera vs Watto on Tatooine? Jabba vs Padme? See they playability from a child’s perspective. They all have play value for kids.
But we have never seen Queen Amidala in action which is why they included her in the Gungan Sub only. There is no other way to bring her back unless they bring back May 4th minifigure polybags. If kids can’t play with them then there is no value for Lego to release her again. If kids are having fun playing with their toys then parents will likely buy more for them.
I think kids do want a Queen Amidala and other female characters. I was watching my young daughter play with her Lego the other day, and she was including the girls from Harry Potter in Star Wars play. When asked she said there were no girls in Star Wars really. Just one or two. Made me think.
I have never had a Sith Infiltrator before as I haven't been collecting early enough, so I am happy about its existence. I would prefer a Naboo royal cruiser, I think it's a very esthetically pleasing ship that could work really well in LEGO, especially with all the new tiled and curved pieces we have.
The Infiltrator is way too expensive for its piece count, minifigure count, and overall size, especially here in Canada where everything is more expensive by a factor of about 42% without taxes, which makes it almost 60% more. Not to mention, I absolutely hate Saw Gerera as a character. Every piece of media that includes him solely has him as a deus ex machina or exposition dump. Every actor who played him was good, but he isn't a good character, also the minifigure is ugly with that green colour. I would have preferred a completely different exclusive like the king of the gungans, a commander droid, a new version of characters that only appeared in 1 or 2 clone wars sets like Ventriss or Savage, Imperial intelligence officer, Dex, bearded Han from Battlefront 2, Quarren squid people, anyone else really.
The Phantom Menace is not actually Darth Maul, it is Palpatine. Palpatine is the one pulling the strings throughout the entire film, hence why the movie is named after him.
6:10 no, those people ask for another Luke's Landspeeder.
I don't have one, I would have liked a Padme minifigure, Saw is cool, and I will get this on a sale.
This sales BECAUSE of Maul. My kids want a Darth Maul to play with (and some other jedi for him to fight), and so I naturally look for a set that includes Maul. It's NOT that the Infiltrator is an amazing product; it's just that it's the best set that comes with Maul. If they'd just include Obi-Wan with his blue lightsaber as well, this would fly off the shelves.
The Phantom Menace is Darth Sidious (Palpatine) and the return of the Sith, not Darth Maul specifically. Other than that, nice vid :) I'd And yeah, I'd love to see more prequel vehicles that Lego hasn't done to death already (or make significant improvements on). The Sith Infiltrator is a great ship, but there are others (throughout the whole SW universe) that would have been preferable.
I think I'll pick it up at 25%-30% off or under. I missed out on all of the other Sith Infiltrator releases (wasn't doing anything with LEGO during those times) so I would like to have one so we will end up picking this up at some point this year. Also need all the minifigures that are in this set (aside from Maul, though I would like to collect one of every iteration of Maul that is out there). Also need it for the Saw Guerra in order to complete the 25th Anniversary LSW collection.
Phantom menace is palpatine and the rise of the empire, not darth maul. Maul is just a tool.
You could cover the lego ideas 80s challenge before it moves to the voting stage on april 16th
The problem is with secondhand markets, I wanted a sith infiltrator but the asking price for the one from a years back is outrageous comparatively speaking.
As a guy who loved this ship ever since seeing TPM, the 2024 Sith Infiltrator is really cool. It should be at least 60$ tbh, but the EP 1 25th Anniversary sets have been really good so far imo!
Also, I do hope we get our N1 Starfighter soon
I was surprised it ended up being smaller than the 2011 one
It's Darth Maul. Which other set would you have him in? Darth Maul is the biggest (most recognised) character from that movie. The only set you'd have him in is a diorama or with his ship.
This set is NOT about the ship, it's about Darth Maul, despite the set name.
Padme? Agree, she is the key character. But Star Wars is more popular with boys than girls, and boys want Darth Maul way more than Padme.
That was a very interesting discussion!
A Naboo royal cruiser would be great but I can’t imagine Lego making it in drum lacquered silver - it would cost a fortune but it wouldn’t look very good in grey. What do you think?
Cheaper because it doesn't have watto just the three main characters
Saw Gerrera: "am I a joke to you?"
Love the video thumbnail 😂❤
I think the answer is clear at 7:20. South Sudan really wants a Sith Infiltrator!
Please do a reivew on the 75337 AT TE!
Have to admit, I love these videos. I watch the other creators for the fun element, but these are brilliant, well thought out, almost intellectual discussions that I find both rewarding and entertaining. Makes me want to spend an afternoon with you on a big sofa in a country pub just having an in-depth chat. 😊
9:50 I’m gonna disagree: the phantom menace of _The Phantom Menace_ is either Palpatine or Anakin/Vader. Darth Maul isn’t lurking in the background or secret or hidden. He’s right there, on the screen, very obviously villain-ing all over the place. It’s true that we know (sorta) who he is before the heroes do, and he only shows up in the back half of the movie, and I agree that he’s used much like the shark in Jaws. But none of that makes him a “phantom” menace. He’s quite tangible and identifiable. And apparently easily defeated. 🫤
He’s also the breakout new character of the movie. Some of that is organic - he looks cool and especially kids are likely going to be drawn to him. But some of that is because Lucas - or at least Lucasfilm - clearly _wanted_ him to be the new Darth Vader, or at least the new Boba Fett. He was all over the advertising and merchandising, which had to have been printed long before anybody saw the film and could decide who their favorite character was.
His continued popularity is because of his performance or appearances in spinoffs, but his initial prominence is marketing. If anything, he’s the red herring to distract you from the actual phantom menace.
What you've said is true... from a certain point of view 😉
And... I guess real Darth was the Maul (the lower half) we made along the way.
i would’ve liked something different but i’m buying it anyways 🤣 i really want a gungan throne room set with boss nas
I get the idea, the Infiltrator was one of the original wave of Lego Star Wars sets, but this ship has never interested me as something I’d want a model of.
7:20 who is searching up Sith infiltrators in South Sudan lol
Your Alex Rider book is upside down😢
Isn't the infiltrator ship just the slave1 (from the OG trilogy) of the prequels? It gets cool because it’s mysterious.
Wait.. isn't Palpatine the Phantom Menace, not Maul?
What you've said is true... from a certain point of view 😉 but Maul was on all the merchandising so he's definitely the more iconic baddie from the film!
Yes I wanted a Watto minifig.
Great analysis 👌 I completely agree, so many important and valid points presented, particularly regarding Padme's figure and the overall inclusion of female minifigures 👍
I got into Lego in late 2015 and missed out on all Sith infiltrates. It's been 9 years since the last one so I'm happy to be getting on this year. Relax my guy.
In the Darth Plageous book he was alive when maul battled qui gone and Obi-Wan which means maul was never a Darth
I will not be getting the Infiltrator, simply because I'm not into Lego Star Wars. While I love Star Wars in general, I simply am not interested in a Lego theme that's mostly dull grey ships.
This is the dumbest video in the history of the internet, yet somehow there is not an ounce of anything but truth.
Jedi Council chamber would have been perfect for the anniversary! 👀
