Been a trout spey addict for over a decade now in the PNW. When people ask me, "what's that?"; I'll tell them to watch this video. Great job!

Same here. It is a lot of fun, I also enjoy euro nymphing. I'm on both end of the spectrum

Thanks for the wise words pointing out major fly fishing mistakes; thinking about casting rather than fishing, damaging the fishery and/or yourself by inappropriate gear/techniques.

It's possible that she meant that the longer rod gives the angler more leverage against a fish because it has such a long two-handed handle. While it's true that a longer length above the handle gives the fish more leverage against the angler; if you place one hand high on the handle and plant the rod butt against your stomach, the angler can increase his leverage against the fish.

I find my 6 wt 10-6 Pieroway renegade is perfect . Rigged up with opst commando head and 40 wt lazar line to be most efficient. Both double and single hand casting . I’m in south central Alaska .

Longer levers (rod) equals less leverage. That's one of the reasons offshore rods are short. Tight lines

Longer rods are worse leverage on fish, not better. That’s simple physics.

A longer rod does not give you a leverage advantage. Imagine lifting a 10lb weight... now imagine lifting a 10lb pole but its 20ft long and you can only grab it by the end.
Dunno why it seems people universally make this mistake.

Whitney - with a longer rod the fish gets more leverage on YOU, not the other way round.
The most efficient leverage would be no rod at all...
