Game 02 (Sagat/Athena Secret Stage): 17:48
Capcom and SNK were developers and producers of some the biggest and best arcade tournament fighters of all time, so it makes perfect sense that these two companies would eventually release a series of cross-over games, featuring a line-up of fighters from their respective pantheons.
Capcom had previously produced two cross-over titles featuring SNK characters for the Sega Dreamcast (and NAOMI arcade hardware), but this was the first arcade collaboration with Playmore as the developer.
Tournament fighting games have never placed much emphasis on story, but I really like the way each fight begins with an exchange of words between the combatants. These exchanges typically have more relevance between fighters from the same franchise, but at least the game always tries to provide some context for the battle.
Anyone who has played a 2D fighting game will find themselves right at home with SVC Chaos. Each fighter has a series of regular punches and kicks that can be chained together to form powerful combos, and each possesses their own set of special moves.
As the fight progresses, each combatant can fill up their 'Special' gauge by landing blows, performing specials or even when taking damage. Once a gauge level is filled, a super-special can be unleashed by performing a combination of stick and button presses. Raising the gauge to level 3 will cause it enter 'Maximum' mode, whereupon the player can unleash multiple super-specials without draining the bar beyond level 2. Even if it looks as though your opponent is beaten, this mechanic allows a losing player to turn the tide and make a comeback.
Seeing as this is a Neo Geo game, the controller features only four buttons, which means that the roster of Capcom's fighter's have had to have their move-list condensed to match the number of buttons. To me, the game played more closely to a Neo Geo fighter than a Capcom title, especially since punch and kick buttons are next to each other. This isn't really a problem as such, just not something that I'm used to.
I was surprised to find that the game features quite a number of secret characters and hidden stages to unlock (two of which I feature in this video). Hidden stages can be accessed by winning fights with certain conditions (e.g. never losing the first round), whilst hidden fighters can be unlocked with a combination of button presses at the title screen. All of this adds longevity to a game that already features an impressive roster of characters and should keep you entertained for some time.
If there's one thing that the Neo Geo is famous for (other than the cost the games...) is excellent 2D graphics capabilities, something that SVC Chaos demonstrates with aplomb. Capcom was certainly no slouch in the artistry department when it came to arcade games, but SNK/Playmore go even further by including beautifully drawn sprites with even more frames of animation.
More importantly, the increased level of animation doesn't detract from the fighting experience. The whole combat experience is exceptionally fluid and equally as good as Capcom's own titles; this is hardly surprising considering Playmore's pedigree with games such as the King of Fighters under it's belt.
Perhaps even more impressive is the quality of the audio. The Neo Geo was originally released in 1990, a time when a lot of arcade games still struggled to reproduce digital effects (especially speech) clearly. The fact that a cartridge-based system from the early 90's can turn out audio of this quality is very impressive indeed.
With it's extensive case of characters, top-notch presentation and slick controls, there's no doubt that SVC Chaos is a great fighting game that's easy to recommend to fans of the genre.

I just got an SNK VS CAPCOM arcade cabinet, she’s sitting in my living room.
After all these years this game can still kick my ass.
the fact that this is running on a neo geo is insane
That intro is probably the best cutscene on the Neo Geo
This game is fire. The sprites and backgrounds are incredible.
briaN.1 for 16 bits yup
The sprites are nice... like the rubbery effect of dhalsims limbs when he extends them...
I think it takes place in a post apocalyptic world.
This game is trash,it's just a basic king of fighters game with the same old models but with street fighter characters,at least Capcom vs sink made entirely new models for both games, this crap here is pure laziness
@@dreadxplayzs7849 how is it pure laziness if they just wanted everything to be consistent with the kof artstyle? all of the capcom side got new sprites and some of the snk side also got new sprites. cvs is good but they didn't even bother making new sprites for a lot of the street fighter characters to go along with the new artstyle.
I always loved how fluid all the character animation is in this game
SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos Longplay (Neo Geo) [60 FPS]: Put your fighting skills to the test in this great cross-over fighter featuring some of SNK and Capcom's most iconic characters!
Read the video description for my review!
That is the sickest animation for the hurricane kick I have ever seen so far, smh.
This was a dream game for me, to see Street Fighter cast drawn in the beautiful art style that SNK was known for!
me too, is like taking King Of Fighters 2002 art style for Capcom characters, feels like a dream come true
King Of Street Fighters 1 is what I would call this instead of SVC Chaos
this game want that popular when it came out. I saw Capcom vs snk all over the place but not this one until way later in life... years and years later.
Cause when it was released the NEOGEO was already terribly outdated, this game came AFTER Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast.
@@GameplayCrush funny thing is. while it might look like outdated. it was actually dated. Dreamcast and ps2 where the first console that could properly emulate these big neo geo titles. Both saturn and psx couldn't. saturn might have come a long way since it was a 2d powerhouse. it might look outdated but even in 2003 the neo geos still considerd a beast. The game also looks gorgeous for neo geo standards.
@@aryinc 02:57 is that a perfect
@@omalone1169 nope. While it looks great, the level design sometimes is off. The specials aren't as spectaculair since snk/playmore was more so going towards streetfighter specials with 10 hits in and nothing beyond spectaculair. The gane could have been better. But in 2002 snk playmore just rushed their neo geo games. The best snk was maybe around 96/98. K.o.f 96 still looks stunning.
Saturn had Neo Geo titles with Ram expansion. Garou also ran poorly on DC and KoF 98/98 went with 3D backgrounds to save memory. NeoGeo is leagues better than Naomi. All DC fighters had 3D backgrounds and SFA3 was a step down from CPS2 version
I really wish this was available for download on either PS4 or Switch.
back then i did not like these sprites, but now i consider them the best version...i used to like the capcom's cartoonish version...
SNK nailed it!
I say SNK did a pretty good job capturing that old-school look and feel of these sprites. It gives the game that 90s vibe. And that was unusual considering this game was made in 2003.

One thing this game made sure they did right was make sure all the character look like they belong in the same game. Capcom vs Snk did not achieve that.
This game is trash,it's just a basic king of fighters game with the same old models but with street fighter characters,at least Capcom vs sink made entirely new models for both games, this crap here is pure laziness
@@dreadxplayzs7849 Aesthically this was actually better put together than Capcom vs Snk. CvS had too many Alpha sprites that stuck out like a sore thumb. The sprites in this game look more cohesive. This game was rushed.
@@realamericannegro977 Capcom vs sink is better even with spirited because they are new unique spirited for everyone and they all fit the game, snk vs Capcom sprites look dull just like the fighting mechanics in this game compared to Capcom vs snk is very poor, don't see how anyone could think this was better than capcom's version.
@@dreadxplayzs7849 Nah CVS looks like Mugen when the Alpha sprites are next to the new ones. They could have made Dan look like Ken and Ryu. The new ones for that series is sick though. SvC chaos looks better to me though. That SnK grit is timeless.
@@realamericannegro977 snk grit is low budget 16 bit graphics get out of here.
This game. Shame it never was as popular as CVS, it had a much cooler roster, Warzard appreciation.... Aaand actual hell.
It had a much better roster than Capcom Fighting Jam.
But it was lacking in so many token fighters.
They got too much Street Fighter Games & King Of Fighters Games
One of favorite game and ost is one of the best for a fighting game. A lot of memories with this game, Capcom vs snk 1 and 2 very good ??hahaha
The biggest reason why we never got a Capcom vs. SNK 3 was because both teams got distracted with MUGEN-like crossover titles such as Capcom Fighting Jam, HYPER Street Fighter II, KOF: Neowave, NEO·GEO Battle Colosseum, and of course SVC Chaos.
Street Fighter Series & King Of Fighters Series needs to be on The Right Tracks
There's a Javascipt version of Final Burn Alpha, and I can't seem to get the ROM to work. What do I do?
looks cool !
This game was my introduction to the Street Fighter Characters Along with Capcom vs. SNK 2
Hello to anyone who it may concerned, today I made a plea on winter towards Limited run games they been physically releasing a lot of the old KOF games on ps4 lately. I put two pictures of this game and explain them how people who lie, this game would buy it if they where to make it physically. I ask them to please consider it.

Ryu looks very similar to sf2 ryu
Ryu was always like that but they did model him after the Street Fighter II Sprite
@TrueSinister no Balrog was traced from an SNK Sprite of Heavy D.
The Street fighter 3rd strike ryu looks better and has more of a mastery and mature look with the black hair japanese look compared to this brown hair white boy look where he looks naive and uncertain of himself.
Most of the roster is taken from both SUPER Street Fighter II X and The King of Fighters '96.

Is THE ps2 version better than neo geo?
Depends on you
Lol
This is the coolest Ryu has ever been in my opinion and during this era he was cool as heck, plus I'm judging based on the Smash Bros. Ryu and this is hands down the best portrayal of the characters. All Street Fighter characters in this game have never been cooler. SNK has a talent for cool badassery. I think they handle Street Fighter character better than Capcom, especially since Capcom made them goofy recently.
I actually kinda like the smug attitude they gave Ryu in the SNK developed crossovers. It was much needed as the SF games don’t really give him a unique personality.
Ryu doesn't even talk like this in canon Capcom form, only thing they got right here was the way ryu looks from his street fighter 2 animated movie debut.
It looks much easier on the Neo Geo.

My only complaints about CvS2:
· Half of the Capcom sprites are recycled from CPS2 fighting games.
· There are no super jumps.
· The story is bare-boned.

Well, You have to understand that SNK weren't doing so well during this time. I'm sure if they were in a better shape, The game could have had a better roster and personality. Look on the bright side, At least We have SNK vs. Capcom Pocket which was also from them.
It has Tessa though, one of the few times Warzards been remembered. Its got that already going for it.
Ignorant and idiot
Street Fighter 1 needs to be fixed over by having it with Better Graphics and Gameplay Design on Arcades than Playstation 1 & Xbox 160 in The 1990's with 24 Characters Introduced
