So many of the designers from the original Street Fighter worked on this game that, if you ignore the actual Street Fighter 2 which revolutionized the genre, this really seems like "Street Fighter 2." The atmosphere is second to none and years ahead of its time, the gameplay is a major improvement on "the first" game, and overall it's very good. It's almost too bad that Capcom had an ace up their sleeve released in the same year.
Stop, don't misunderstand, I think in this 2023 with all the stuff we have seen we can pretty much say that a comercial succeed is not equal a "revolution", SF2 was a comercial succeed, but the inovation in gameplay were proposed in games like Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting from SNK, their games were already 2 or 3 steps ahead from the stiff block gameplay of SF.
@@davion4777 I bought it when it was new for the AES. (yeah I'm old) It's not only the graphics but the sound for the time was amazing. To top it all off it was fun! The early Neo Geo fighters had an atmosphere to them that the newer ones didn't capture. They seemed to have more "energy"......they really got you hyped up!
That's because he used his air-fireball move just before he hits the ground, just like how mario does pounce right before he hits the ground to negate any fall damage.

Not sure if anyone knew this but if u do the special move command whilst jumping back in the air, your character teleports to the ground to perform it. Easy to do with Andy Bogard speed dash. Just jump back and ⬅️➡️ A (punch). Weird glitch.
I love this game for the nostalgic memories it gave me as a kid, but also from the nostalgic memories of that one Fatal Fury-themed episode of Botchamania where Maffew used nothing but the music from this game. Ah, 2010 TH-cam was the greatest.
My mom worked in a british pub in the early 90s and it had 2 arcade machines, robocop and fatal fury,if there wasnt any kids about i could have the key and have unlimited games on them. Robocop was just to hard but fatal fury was the best,i was allways andy bogard..i then found street fighter and at that point i was a master of combat platform games...

I have this on the _SNK Classics Vol. 1_ for the Wii, and my brother and I used co-op and attacked Billy on both sides. He has invincibility even against two people at once, it was ridiculous!
Fatal Fury and it says king of fighters at the bottom does that mean that this game was renamed to king of fighters the name Fatal in the name doesn’t reflect anything deadly.

The music on this game was exceptional and using Andy’s Zan-ei Ken (dashing fist) was totally unstoppable if you timed it right-CPU would never be able to get up. 😂 Also simultaneous 2-player vs CPU was highly unusual.

I almost thought for a second that maybe there was some sort of sponsorship at the time between SNK and Carl's Jr at the time when I first played this game and saw that star. I wonder if that star design has some copyright rule with it. If so, then Carl's Jr and SNK must have had some talk about it before or after Fatal Fury released. There must be some good reasoning behind this design of that one small thing in the background. Never in my life would I ever be so curious about a small detail in the background until now.

Because you have the arcade aes cabinet or neo geo ... back in the 1990s toy maker takara made the snes version ... i dunno about the sega genesis / mega drive version

Why were SNK fighters so unforgivably tough to beat? Granted, I was still in diapers when I first picked up playing Garou and SF but at least about being 4 years old I remember these games being harder than an anime hero's journey to become the strongest whatever. Thankfully over the years SNK bosses have been even downed especially on level on thankfully. Some of us don't like work hard for outle characters' endings😅
The Fatal Fury arcade was programmed that it'd track the real life date so that if you'd bea the game in 1998 the ending would say 1998 (and month and day), but the Arcade never accounted for the next millenium. This playthrough was done in February 2019.
The arcade board had a clock in it. It would insert the clock's year into that part of the ending. Obviously they didn't account for the Y2K bug, and so it says 1919 when it was played in 2019. Fatal Fury 2 does it as well.

Yeah, also in this game you can play only 3 characters. Then the sequels you can choose more fighters.

The SNES version is bad, the Genesis version is good for what it is but yes the Arcade version is far superior than both.
