The real reason was Bethesda/Zenimax was trying to buy Human Head studios but The hostile takeover failed.. so as a result they decided to shelve the game and leave the studio for dead. Blair was right when he said it was petty. There is a full game of Prey 2 just sitting somewhere and will never see the light of day out of spite. Also, Pete Hines Lies all the damn time, it's literally his job as a PR guy. Talk to the devs if you really wanna know what happened for the details.
"it was more than a demo", pretty gutted since it was 2 yrs of dev into that. i suppose Bethesda is holding onto the old assets. sigh if only Human Head had the resources to remake their vision of the game.
grey 7 I asked Human Head if they had the assets, they were all handed over and I'm sure they had to sign something regarding leaks or risk getting sued into oblivion. The team has moved on since they can't do anything since their so small.
i am not surprised, which is why i hope some studios or Human Head will make a spiritual sucessor in the form of a new open world bounty hunter game, as a nod to Prey2. if only for spite. because now when i play DOOM, i see that the UAC Pistol feels abit like the blaster Killian is using. and how there are platforming segments in DOOM with ledges like these seen in Prey 2 demo, or rocket boots slightly toned down version. i guess Bethesda really wanted id Tech engine, since they wanted to buy out HH Studios, being one of the few studios capable of working id Tech engines (aside from id) back then.
grey 7 well luckily for us, Prey was a financial failure for Bethesda, there is no chance of a sequel for sure now. They are very much aware that people wanted the HH version which they updated it and release it in few years time since its a complete game.
Exactly. I think the evidence is stronger than circumstantial. For one the leaked emails between Arkane and Bethsoft published on destructoid a full year before the official announcement, outlining the push for Arkane's System Shock Spiritual successor, with explicit requests for absolutely Zero remnants of the themes of HH's Prey2 made it dead clear Bethsoft had no intention of publishing HH's Prey2 way before it was ever made official. Nathan Cheevers commentary on the subject is chilling as hell.
Todd Howard and his team made fuck loads of bad design decisions but were too lazy to take a step back to fix, the game would make too much money on its name to just drop
FedoraTipper69 that's just a generic bullshit excuse. The real reason prey 2 died was Bethesda couldnt buy out human head studios and its rights to prey so theyd own the whole project so they bombed it out of spite
Depends if the game was actually up and running properly, Games like Aliens Colonial Marines or Watchdogs show you can have a great or innovative demo which is completely unrepresentative of actual gameplay. The premise here is fantastic, as are most game demos GVMERS shows but it doesn't mean the actual release would've been smooth
Yeah that's true. Unless someone leaks a build of Prey 2 we can't really know how good it actually was. Lot's of vertical slice gameplay demo's made just for E3 look amazing but don't represent a full product. The concept looked great though.
Justin Johnson That's definitely not happening with the new canon since they've agreed that Galen Marek is too stupidly OP unless they reboot him as a sith inquistor or just cite him as killed off by Vader as a child. Imperial Commando is more likely or a successor to 1313 as they have reported for EA.
Justin Johnson I know it sucks, i really liked Starkiller but even Dave Filoni cited that he wasn't much of a fan of his arc so its not likely we'll ever hear from him again. Sam Witwer who voiced and gave his likeness for starkiller voiced Darth Maul and the Emperor now so there's at least some possibility. I never though there would be third game for the sole fact that jailing Vader in the good ending would just screw things far too much to include.
Prey 2 Demo remake th-cam.com/video/Vu2hNWgKrLs/w-d-xo.html I will be doing a PC version once I repai it.. For now I can only work on the PS4 version using Dreams 👍
Two things are really funny in this situation. One is that neither Prey 2 not Prey 2017 have anything in common with Prey 1. The other is that Bethesda said that it wasn't up to standard and they released Fallout 4.
Politics in this sense means petty beef, something as simple as differing opinions on direction, or likely but more difficult to prove, jealousy. There a a very politically heavy environment where the game was being made as head didn't want to be under Bethesda's thumb to begin with. For this case, me personally, I side with the devs who worked on Prey 2, if there was publicly playable builds at E3 and fully rendered cut scenes then it would be very likely the game was indeed close to being done. I haven't lost hope yet, if someone released footage of that cancelled halo mega blocks I guarantee you in a few years we might see some of the scrapped assets from Prey 2's development, in which case the public will be able to decide for themselves what really happened behind closed doors and under NDAs.
Bethesda wanted to own HumanHead and the Prey IP. HumanHead refused to go through with the deal, and Bethesda slowed development, stopped paying the developers, and eventually cancelled the game out of spite.
Ah ok so more like inside bickering rather than actual politics like we saw with the likes of Mass Effect Andromeda It's a shame, they both look great games. I would have loved to play the bounty hunter version and the version we have now. Well i will play the version we have now but the other one looked great also!
+mitchcraft Apparently, Bethesda wanted to buy Human Head, Human Head refused, and Bethesda tried to keep cutting funding with the idea that Human Head would sell to Bethesda. They didn't, even after Bethesda cancelled their game, leaving Human Head alive (thankfully), but very much lacking in money, and leaving everyone else without what would've been, I think, one of the best games in a very, very long time.
I have too agree, the cancelled game didn't seem all that impressive. Maybe at the time it would have wowed people, but I bet if it was finished it wouldn't live up to the hype and be just another mediocre shooter. The original Prey, while having some interesting mechanics, was just OK. The most recent one is great!
I'll give you Morrowind, even though was 15 years ago, but even that was a downgrade from Daggerfall, as Oblivion was a downgrade from Morrowind, and Skyrim was a downgrade from Oblivion. Fallout 3 is shitty game that never should have been made and New Vegas was made by Obsidian, not Bethesda, and they at least tried to make it play right in the spirit of earlier Fallout games. Dishonored games were made by Arkane, for whom Bethesda is only the publisher. Likewise, they were only publishers for Wolfenstein: TNO and the new Doom. So yes, Bethesda is shitty developer and you need only to look at Fallout 4 for proof.
"It was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be." "We never saw a path to success if we finished it." "It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it." "Either way, here's Fallout 76."
To celebrate the release of Arkane's Prey we investigate the original sequel that, unfortunately, never saw the light of the day. We hope you enjoy our look at Human Head's Prey 2! :)
What's wrong with the new one, exactly? Don't get me wrong, the version that was cancelled looks pretty lit, but the new one still has a lot going for it
ShadowOfRahl it was okay, until you reach the end and you realize they lazy rushed it. It's one of the worst endings ever. (The overall decisions, let's not spoil for others)
Antichrist2000 how is it Harvey Smith's (Arkane) fault. Bethesda clearly just wanted to make their own System Shock and contracted Arkane Studios, and Bethesda was clearly behind the name choice
I remember when I 1st saw the trailer for Prey 2 I was so pumped, and when they showed the gameplay I just remember thinking this is too good to be true. Damn shame it never came out, expecially since so many people wanted. There's no doubt in my mind that it would've been successful.
I remember telling my friends that I couldn't wait for Prey 2 to be released when I saw the 2011 E3 demonstration. I even waited anxiously when I heard nothing from the unusual silence and long delay. Then, I felt crushed it was cancelled. Finally, depression hit me like a truck when the "truth" of it came out (Bethesda cancelling it out of spite when they couldn't buy out Human Head Studios. Even they thought the game was so good, they had to own the studio but they refused and it went to hell).
Shanky Biscuit Nah, you wouldn't have been happy with Prey 2, folks like you are never happy, unless of course, a game reaches some kind of "cult status" and then you'll claim you "always liked the game"! lol. Kinda like how VTM: Bloodlines was hated when it first came out, but now it has "rave reviews" by all the hipsters lol.
Expertly crafted once again and great narration as always. You can add a second chevron to that logo of yours, GVMERS. You guys ranked up a long time ago. ;)
Bethesda: Prey 2 didn't meet our standards for quality so we axed it entirely Also Bethesda: _Releases Fallout 76_ hahahahaha you actually think anyone believes that. Publishers are a malignant cancer.
They were so salty that their shit in house game was going to suck (which they knew) so what did they do? They canned a functional game that had the potential to be a Mass Effect contender and a CyberPunk before CyberPunk... boggles the mind how stupid those people are. I have no doubt in my mind that if it rains outside, they have valets hired to close their jaws so it doesn't rain inside their mouths.
Bethesda wanted to buy Human Head Studios, like they've done other developers, but Human Head Studios didn't want to be tied down to one developer telling them what to do. So Bethesda put pressure on them in every way they could, setting impossible deadlines being one of them, they did this in an effort to beat down the company so hard that they'd have no choice but to sell to Bethesda. But they never did. Now Human Head Studios is in shambles, a once great group of game developers, crushed by the greed of Bethesda. The worst part about all this was Prey 2 was over 90% complete, the game was done. The mechanics and ideas created in that game would not appear again until years later. Our industry was held back about 7 years all because of Bethesda's greed. That's what happened to Prey 2. Don't believe it, "how could Bethesda do something like that?", you may ask, well, look no further than Creation Club, and if you do want to look further, how about re-selling Skyrim on every platform, or having to buy a VR version of Skyrim and DOOM to play them in VR, even if you own the game. P.S: Arkane was already making a space game when Bethesda came to them and told them to make the new Prey. Rather than making a new game they just slapped the Prey title on their space game, so Prey 2017 couldn't have anything less to do with the real Prey and Prey 2.
If Rune Ragnarok goes well HH might actually recover from the near fatal encounter with BS. it was depressing watching them struggle through as a work for hire studio holding together some rather forgettable F2P games. The fact that HH can work full time on their own IP once again is at least something.
it's funny because Bethesda did the same thing to Obsidian when they were making New Vegas. ridiculous deadlines caused the game to release in a buggy state and made reviews lower than the original review score that Bethesda had wanted the game to get so they would give Obsidian a bonus, but Obisidian's reviews were just under what they wanted and Obsidian wasn't given the money. Bethesda doesn't like being showed up, which is fucking hilarious because Fallout 76 is one of the biggest trainwrecks in gaming in the past decade and now Obsidian has a very promising game coming out next year that is going to take the cake. i used to love Bethesda but their practices in the industry have over time put a bad taste in my mouth and honestly i don't trust them as developers anymore.
Your post is overall good, but you dont seem to know the difference between Bethesda the dev, Bethesda the pub, or ZeniMax. And no, no amount of thinking "but they are the same" makes it true - something like that has not been true for a VERY long time at this point.
Since when Bethesda even cares about "quality standards"? I see almost 90% of their games are just left buggy and outdated and they left modders to fix it. Ouh well, whatever it is, I don't claim Prey (2017) as the Prey 2 we all know. I count Prey (2017) as Dishonored In-Space Expansion
Purpletrax no system shock, according to their own words, this is what Dishonored was to thief for system shock. and as bioshock was literally "system shock 2 but underwater" down to the twist of the helpful character turning out to be the main villian(Shodan and Atlas) and the person you thought was the main threat when the game starts up is actually just a footnote in the main story arch after losing power to the real main villian (Xeres/Ryan). The inventory, the type of powers to the pass codes. It's all system shock
How nice that dirty laundry from Bethesda are coming to surface. They were all good guys while they were having their titles. Now when they are acquiring other titles and rights from other companies - they are slowly turning into EA. So they have cancelled Pray 2 so that Fallout 4 could sell well. How convenient.
Monetizing mods into that mix definitely reeks of EA's DLC modus operandi. It's unfortunate that its usually the devs that suffer the most under these massive, quick cash-grabbing corporates. After all...the games wouldn't exist without the devs, and still they are pushed off the ladder by the publishers. They seem to throw a shit-ton of initial money at small, but effective development teams, then suck the life out of them...then when they start to get frustrated and overworked...the top brass of the publisher will cause divisions in the team and eventually say..."if you don't like it....you don't get paid...or else leave." It's a shady world....in the video game industry.
And worst of all is the people who made the game itself tends to get screwed over. Absolute no job security whatsoever if the studio you work in gets undercut or even gets absorbed.
Which Bethesda are you all talking about? No, the pub and dev are not the same thing, and they haven't really been close and of the same mind for a very long time.
That could work...and a great idea that they could do...although I'm sure there's a lot of legal stuff involved with it because I'm guessing Bethesda own it now....that they could salvage whatever they can from the project, change a few things around so it doesn't have any association from the first Prey, and make it's own game and released independently and there's your space bounty hunter game...along with updating the graphics and engine of course because this was developed for 7th gen and not for 8th gen....along with doing whatever they need to do to make it a finished product.....not sure how much that would cost...but my guess somewhere still in the millions....
Fleder Mausmann Yeah, that's a fair enough statement. :P I can't say about other infinity engine games as I've not played any others, but if PoE is a lesser experience, I'll definitely have to check then out.
As someone who owns and plays the Prey reboot, and who played some of the original; I still wish we got the Prey 2 promised years ago. That game's concepts, location, and gameplay look a hell of a lot more fun and exciting than Prey (2017) is. Don't get me wrong, Prey (2017) is a good game, but Prey 2 could have been a fantastic game. Prey (2017) is a slow, methodical game. It favors (yet doesn't require) stealth gameplay, enemies are so tough that fighting them is more strenuous than fun, and the scarcity of resources leads you to avoid combat when you can. That's all good for a certain genre, but I think that's a genre that Prey shouldn't belong to. It truly feels like Dishonored in space, but tries desperately to make it seem like it's anything but. It's not exactly very ingenuitive, and seems to simply recycle ideas and design philosophies of Arkane's other games. Where as Prey 2 was more fast paced, had fun looking combat, emulated a game (Mirror's Edge) that few, if any, have attempted to mimic, had a completely new and fresh game design. They charted their own territory instead of emulating their past games. And the "bounty hunter in space" setting is something people have been clamoring for for years. I like Prey (2017). But I'd love Prey 2.
Thankfully, CD Project Red will be giving the finger to all those studios who scraped, cancelled, and beheaded all those sci-fi games that we wanted! Cyberpunk 2077, the ball is in your court.
What I've learned during my two playthroughs of the new prey: Inventory space is an issue early game, so suit expansions are super important. Don't waste your time with the final one until end game. 1 and 2 are enough. Unlock leverage III asap; I'll open up tons of areas and you can throw big boxes at enemies. It saves tons of ammo... not as much as turrets though. Turrets use up repair kits, so keep that in mind. Speaking of turrets; level 2 Repair is enough until the end. Being able to repair turrets and place them down long hallways is ideal, but there's better things to invest in than a level 3; save that for leverage or hacker. Only invest in stealth early in the game if you plan on playing a stealth run-through. I do recommend level 1 early on, but that's it. Stay away from the darker mods if you want to continue to use turrets (in a traditional manner). Don't invest in psychoscope socket expansions early in the game. They're convenience mods. Just switch them around for each area. Once you unlock a mod such as hacker or leverage, back-tracking is very important if you want more neuromods. Faster running speed is great if you want to skip monsters, but you better know where you're going. Don't fight the Nightmare... just don't. It's a huge waste of resources. With that, always take the path that will give you more resources in the end. Duh Don't forget to use your psychoscope to identify new enemies; it unlocks more of the skill tree. It also works great to spot mimics, and help you see in the dark. Parkor everything; it'll get you into hidden areas. Don't be afraid to run away. In fact, find places to hide ahead of time... cough cough utility ducts. Don't forget to use the huntsman bowcaster to open doors that are locked from the inside. If you see a door keypad with an error message and x's over the numbers, only hacking will get you in. Otherwise, there's always a second way in. Sometimes, you need to go out into space to get in the room. Don't try to take an escape pod into space. Just don't. Don't invest in stamina. If you're going to use a bomb, make sure your psychoscope sockets are optimized for it. Some bombs will prevent you from fighting too if you're not careful. Oh yeah, if an enemy hits you with a long range attack while you're throwing a recycler bomb, you'll quickly discover what it's like to enter a black hole. The perk for breaking down weapons is great to get extra repair kits. That being said, don't accidentally recycle your modded weapons :P I'd love to hear anyone else's tips if they have them.
4 years down the line, buuut…this actually really helped me! Lol! Didn’ know about the boltcaster and locked doors thing! Keep wondering what that thing is good for! Lol! Thanks !
It's really disappointing hearing about what happened to the original Prey 2 but I'm willing to give the new Prey a chance if it's actually good. I just wish we lived in a universe where we got both,
I gave the new PREY a 10/10. Is it particularly inventive? No. Does that matter though? Not really, look at DOOM 2016, you dont need to be origional if you're a hell of a lot of fun and do everything correctly. It plays like a combo of Dishonored, Bioshock, and Human Revolution, its really good. Play on Nightmare for a very tense and difficult experience, I loved it on that one.
BallisticDrama The new Prey is absolutely fantastic. It's one of my favorite games right now. I do wish that we could have gotten both Prey 2 and Prey (2017), though.
This channel has amazing content damn it!!!! It's like the golden era of G4 revamped with its own spin! Makes me miss shows like Icons. Or miss G4 shows in general.
Eh, I got the opposite reaction Prey 2. It looked just like Deus Ex Invisible War (I still have PTSD from that game) and the demo looked much more linear than the devs made it sound to be, which made me wary. Although I do have to admit that the setting was certainly interesting and it would be great if we could see similar ones in the future. But anyway, that's just my opinion on this, so take it with a grain of salt.
Strange that the second released game also had the name of just "Prey", not "Prey 2". But I have to say it's an amazing game. I don't know how this Prey 2 would have come out, but the one that did come out is very good.
I hate to be one of those people but here goes: this prey looked so much more exciting than the new one. I would of definitely preferred to see the new one being made. Even though I say I'd prefer the cancelled one, I do still think the new one is outstanding and still fits the series. I just hope in the future they'll back and reproduce the game
I mean the guy shown in the Prey 2 trailer looks completely badass and his get up is what I imagines a space bounty hunter would look like but this Prey 2017 was boring asf in my opinion sure it had a plot twist at the end but come on I want to be a cyberpunk space cowboy bounty hunter with a beany and lots of tracker tech fighting aliens while calling the big baddy "You're one ugly motherfucker" and hookin up with exotic space chicks 7:40 look at those hips and getting drunk in space bars. Like come on it's the epiphany of what everybody wants as a alien hunting badass in space.
My main problem with the new prey is mostly the name, it makes it feel more like a nostalgia money grab than a new game. Also the quality standards "problems" sounds way too fake as an excuse, from all the meh sequels through the years a game that its worst case scenario is breaking even sounds like a worthy investment (especially from a company that can support "weird" releases something something fallout 4)
I fucking love the new prey. Reminds me of my first time playing bioshock. And the story and game play I'm always blown away. And the music oh my god the music. I'm kinda happy prey 2 got cancelled because this version of prey is fucking god tier
Prey 2 seem far ahead of its time and even ahead of games in 2019. Was watching Prey 2017 walkthrough and decided to search if a second was gonna come out... only to find one did in 2011 and is hell a lot better then the 2017 version. Prey 2 would have made a lot of money even to this day.
Prey reboot is grossly underrated and got overlooked/forgotten way too soon. Its story is fantastic, gameplay is varied enough you could do 2 or 3 very different playthroughs. Graphics are on par or better. UI and hud are sleek. Only bad thing I can say is that it's quite difficult if you're used to run of the mill, shooting fish in a barrel campaigns. Level design and AI really allow for you to use your brain to overcome obstacles.
this is a old comment but ima reply XD. I bought prey for 10 pounds (or dollars if ur in US) and I love it. on my 1st playthrough but ima try the full human one next!
Shame we never got this. I do think it's a scummy business move to slip the skin of another property on a totally unrelated game, but *sigh* I suppose we shouldn't complain. System Shock 3.... err, "Prey," is pretty damn good.
The truth is, arcane was working on a space dishonored but Bethesda was afraid of launching a new franchise and since they just had canceled prey 2 they said: "Hey we just canceled this game its also about aliens and space n shit. Lets call this game prey and since its in fashion lets call it a reboot." ive been working for over 10 years now in the industry. Always the same shit.
It's not even Dead Space. Not Half Life, not Bioshock, Deus Ex or any other game Prey has been compared to. It's System Shock, plain and simple. The exact opposite of what original Prey was.
***** My point wasn't about the connection between Prey 1 and 2. It was the fact that instead of a fast paced bounty hunter adventure that we really haven't gotten the likes of, we instead got "member System Shock? Oooo I 'member!"
@chop Top Nada I don't think I said anything like that, but I'm one of those who got burned by this new Prey. I played the original Prey, loved it. When I heard about Arkane making a Prey game, I was super excited and even pre-ordered the game. Last pre-order, I'm telling you. I hoped that Arkane would make a decent shooter and come up with new look at the original concept. Oh boy was I mistaken. At this point Arkane is full of grandpas who can only remake their own games. More precisely, Arkane Austin. Fuck that studio, this game would be much more fun if it was made by Arkane Lyon. Prey 2017 is a really boring game. It got great reviews when it launched, but now it is getting panned as more people who aren't blinded by nostalgia play it. I mean, it dropped below 80% on Metacritic. They make a niche game, they get what was coming for it. That and save bug.
Bethesda turned a kick-ass and original shooter with a cyberpunk setting (sorely lacking, these days) into a watered down, shittier version of System Shock 2.
Thank god they did Prey as what it is and not what it is "supposed to be" It become litteraly one of the best games in last 5 years. Best game i play in 2017 so far.
I see this and hope Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t suffer the same fate. That demo they showed has the same “too good to be true” aura that myself and others felt when seeing this gameplay from Prey 2 back in the day. And Punk 2077 has the same rocky and lengthy development as well...
Prey reboot is grossly underrated and got overlooked/forgotten way too soon. Its story is fantastic, gameplay is varied enough you could do 2 or 3 very different playthroughs. Graphics are on par or better. UI and his are sleek. Only bad thing I can say is that it's quite difficult if you're used to run of the mill, shooting fish in a barrel campaigns. Level design and AI really allow for you to use your brain to overcome obstacles.
So sad that people havent given the new prey a second chance, its easily my favorite game of the year,it was amazing . Prey 2 couldve been amazing or shit but we will never know, but at least we got the great new prey.
Honestly, I was not impressed with the new Prey. It just seemed too...safe. It felt like they didn't do anything new. Honestly, it's forgettable and that's the worst fate you could have for a game.
@@RikkiSan1 huh that's just a fucking joke has to be the level of freedom of shit you get to do in prey is wild the world building and themes are great, the gameplay is fun as fuck
Shame indeed. But its getting so old I barely care anymore. Fuck bethesda. What is there even to look forward to? Fallout 5? More of the same, better graphics. yay. Or Elder Scrolls follow up to Skyrim in 2045 when Skyrim finally dies.
Everything went right untill time shift and then crysis, those were the two last games of their time that hinted at the promise of an amazing gaming future, and then it was all lost to dark, perhaps in an alternate universe i grew up playing prey 2 and other magnificent games! :(
hahaha quality standards. that's actually insulting to gamers considering the "standards" of rogue warrior, a game that was universally panned as being one of the worst games of all time
but one of the best worst games of all time though at least...man...Rogue Warrior is my game of the year every year....it's so bad that it's funny and great both at the same time...I mean wouldn't spend 60 bucks on it...but for ten bucks...I would....
Rogue Warrior doesn't even deserve to be paid, as the campaign is said to last only two hours. What made Bethesda THINK it's okay to publish such a game in the first darn place? Did they get persuaded by the potty mouth language from the protagonist?
Looks like cyberpunk, sounds like cyberpunk...probably pleyed better than cyberpunk. Jokes aside, I hope they make Prey2. Either in the previous setting or the new one. I love both, Prey 2017 slightly more for its horror/adventures nature, the writing, sidequests, level design and overall composition, which makes the game great fun
Amazing video, sir! I even teared up a little at one point. The problem is, however, that Arkane's Prey is astonishing. I'm not sure whether I'd have swapped it for Human Head Studios' game.
imho the cancelled sequel looks pretty boring, at least from what was shown in this vid (I never really followed its development) but who knows, it might have been a great game. in any case, i'm not so cross about its cancellation, having played the arkane's version which turned out to be pretty damn good as well.
I honestly would have much preferred Prey 2 instead of Prey 2017. Prey 2017 is amusing, but a novelty to me. It doesn't really do anything to make me want to play it. Prey 2, however... I REALLY wanted to play it just so I could live out my space-bounty-hunter fantasy again without buying a new Gamecube and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.
After playing Prey 1 I honestly was kinda dissapointed when I heard that Prey 2 was going to be as a bounty hunter basically on Coruscant from Star Wars; it had nothing to do with the original prey which was about surviving on an alien spaceship. The Prey 2 we got was better (though I agree they should have called it something like space shock)
There should be a publisher that just takes in cancelled games and releases and sells them as budget titles. It would never happen for loads of reasons, but that would be an amazing hodgepodge! Also, i'm glad GVMERS figure out to pull some of the highs out of the mix, this is so harsh and i'm so glad I have an eq.
Ive got the most unsatisfying half-chub thinking of Prey 2 and Star Wars 1313. The concept must be one of the coolest things to exist and it failing twice despite being nearly ready to serve is just sooo frustrating >:|
I think you mean 'forgettable', Arkanes Prey is barely talked about, and has largely been forgotten, and for good reason, it's not a bad game by any measure, but it's not really noteworthy either. Though I suppose that's not it's fault when Fallout 4 is getting critical acclaim for some bizarre reason
RampantSarcasm Forgettable is certainly a sad destiny for Arkane’s Prey. It was incredibly fun and what I consider to be a right step for the video game industry in terms of evolving the medium. However, I think an immersive sim like Prey is fairly niche and as such would probably never achieve the same level of success as say Call of Duty or Fall Out. The General player wants a more simple, flashy kind of game, which isn’t bad but what I consider to be a symptom of Arkane’s Prey financial failure. What’s annoying to me about the cancelled Prey 2 game is that, similar to the new Prey, it appeared to having nothing to do with the original other than the player playing as a human while fighting aliens. I don’t doubt that the game had potential to really rock the industry in a positive way but I must also say that I think it looked too ambitious as well. I suspect that if Prey 2 had been completed and released it would have been possibly very scripted and linear. Of course, we’ll never know.
RampantSarcasm Well Dishonored isnt talked about much too and its probbaly the best game I have ever played (Ofc because of Dishonored 2 there was a bit more attention to it, but 2 Months later noone remembered even Dishonored 2).
2017 has been a year of two things: controversy and great games. All of last year was rife with outrage as publishers like EA and Activision had sought to utilize any and all shady business practices to get players to fork over more and more cash, so much so that now government is trying to get involved due to complaints. In terms of great games we had releases like: Nioh, the Evil Within 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cuphead, Resident Evil 7, Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata. Geez, that's not even close to mentioning all the highly praised games we got in 2017. I can understand now why awesome games like Dishonored 2 and Prey were forgotten. So much happened last year that only the most well advertised and best crafted games could have stayed in the spotlight for long.
RampantSarcasm What the fuck do you mean? It was critically well received, and got an average of 9/10 on Steam from thousands of users. "Not good, but not noteworthy" my ass.
Mid-2000's was such a great time for shooters, especially on PC. Off the top of my head, between 2004 and 2007, we got Half-Life 2, Doom 3, FarCry, Prey, F.E.A.R., S.T.A.L.K.E.R., BioShock, Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, with 6 of those 8 titles being PC exclusive at launch. Wouldn't be surprised if the whole decade was good, considering we got Halo and Deus Ex near near the start and Borderlands towards the end. Hell, maybe it's just been good ever since the first Doom was released.
Bethesda quality standards, so the game didn't have enough bugs?
it was too perfect to be true
just for skyrim alone thousands of bugs fixed afkmods.iguanadons.net/Unofficial%20Skyrim%20Legendary%20Edition%20Patch%20Version%20History.html
7718 Prey (2017), Fallout 4, and Skyrim (especially the remastered edition) all had tons of bugs. although prey is technically Arkane Studios fault.
7718 Prey is fixed now and its my favorite game of the year, its great
Not enough bugs, glitches, and rushed DLC.
It wasn't up to Bethesda's quality standard but Fallout 4 was?
Todd Howard and his team made fuck loads of bad design decisions but were too lazy to take a step back to fix, the game would make too much money on its name to just drop
FedoraTipper69 that's just a generic bullshit excuse. The real reason prey 2 died was Bethesda couldnt buy out human head studios and its rights to prey so theyd own the whole project so they bombed it out of spite
FedoraTipper69 think about that for a second and tell me how bad it had to be in terms of actual gameplay
Why can't I have a sci-fi bounty hunter game, Star Wars 1313, Prey 2, got my fingers crossed for Cyberbunk 2077.
Dylan Salvitti hi

Setz the star wars bounty Hunter game was kinda did although probably not as good as prey 2 would've
The abduction scene in the original Prey is I N C R E D I B L E.
Can't beat Blue Oyster Cult!
It is still one of my all-time most memorable scenes in all of gaming.
mine too. that game is sooo underrated.
Totally agree and the music blaring from the jukebox as it happend topped it off really well.
metalmugen true I still play it. Also is Prey 2 worth it?
I hope someone leaks Prey 2 at some point for everyone to play.

I will be doing a PC version once I repai it.. For now I can only work on the PS4 version using Dreams 👍
Two things are really funny in this situation.
One is that neither Prey 2 not Prey 2017 have anything in common with Prey 1.
The other is that Bethesda said that it wasn't up to standard and they released Fallout 4.
Prey 2 at least took place in the same universe and Tommy was going to be in the game too.
Yeah I heard the main character of Prey 2 was one of the passengers in that one plane that gets abducted inside the alien ship
Bethesda also published Rogue Warrior, hands down one of the worst games to be made in recent history.
Silver Flame, I was gonna be mad, but then I realised, that you said Rogue Warrior, not Rogue Trooper.
They also made fallout 3, one of the worst games ever
This was cancelled and then Star Wars: 1313 was scrapped. I'm just never gonna get my seedy urban alien bounty hunting game.
Tyler D Visceral is developing a Star wars game that could be a successor to 1313.
Nilos that'd be cool.

Well theres the old PS2 title...Star Wars Bounty Hunter.
@@Nilos94 Who's Visceral again ):
Damn the Triple A market.
With the Bethesda VP's statement it definitely sounded like some politics bullshit.
What side of politics though? Was there some politically incorrect crap that we never hear the end of these days or what?
Ah ok so more like inside bickering rather than actual politics like we saw with the likes of Mass Effect Andromeda
It's a shame, they both look great games. I would have loved to play the bounty hunter version and the version we have now. Well i will play the version we have now but the other one looked great also!
They outright killed this game.
This channels presentation and quality is outstanding. I really hope that the channel grows.

"It wasn't up to our quality standard." - Pete Hines from Bethesda
Now you know who's telling the truth.
Know you know?
What exactly do they mean by politics? I mean that could be anything ffs!

Apparently, Bethesda wanted to buy Human Head, Human Head refused, and Bethesda tried to keep cutting funding with the idea that Human Head would sell to Bethesda. They didn't, even after Bethesda cancelled their game, leaving Human Head alive (thankfully), but very much lacking in money, and leaving everyone else without what would've been, I think, one of the best games in a very, very long time.

i can understand why you liked the new prey game and i am glad you liked it
I have too agree, the cancelled game didn't seem all that impressive. Maybe at the time it would have wowed people, but I bet if it was finished it wouldn't live up to the hype and be just another mediocre shooter. The original Prey, while having some interesting mechanics, was just OK. The most recent one is great!
Kimbap Tempura well like I said I am glad you enjoyed the new prey game more then I did

I would still play this game if it came out. FPS, alien landscape, bounty hunter, choices abounding... yes, this would have been for me.
Wanna hear a joke? Bethesda "quality standards".
wanna here another joke? bethesdas "release dates"
So yes, Bethesda is shitty developer and you need only to look at Fallout 4 for proof.
hahahahahaaaa, obvious troll is obvious.
They used to be a good developer but then they took a Gamebryo to the knee.
Cristian Villavicencio they still are.

It's Pete Heins. His entire job is lying to the public so that people still buy their games.
To celebrate the release of Arkane's Prey we investigate the original sequel that, unfortunately, never saw the light of the day. We hope you enjoy our look at Human Head's Prey 2! :)
GVMERS its awesome
GVMERS wish they finished this one instead of the new one
What's wrong with the new one, exactly? Don't get me wrong, the version that was cancelled looks pretty lit, but the new one still has a lot going for it
I just finished Prey (2017) today. One the the best gaming experiences I've had in years. I could easily see it being my GOTY.
ShadowOfRahl it was okay, until you reach the end and you realize they lazy rushed it.
It's one of the worst endings ever.

Antichrist2000 how is it Harvey Smith's (Arkane) fault. Bethesda clearly just wanted to make their own System Shock and contracted Arkane Studios, and Bethesda was clearly behind the name choice
SOMEONE PLEASE CONTINUE "PREY 2"!!!
If this franchise has a future, I hope to see "Tommy" again.
As much as I enjoyed the new Prey I would have preferred Prey 2.
Also, Bethesdas quality standards? That's a laugh.
Shanky Biscuit Nah, you wouldn't have been happy with Prey 2, folks like you are never happy, unless of course, a game reaches some kind of "cult status" and then you'll claim you "always liked the game"! lol. Bethesda: Prey 2 didn't meet our standards for quality so we axed it entirely
Also Bethesda: _Releases Fallout 76_
hahahahaha you actually think anyone believes that.
If bethesda had "quality standards" fallout 76 wouldn't exist.
Yeah but... Pete Hines is a LIAR!
And now Bethesda are falling apart because of the disaster known as F76
it's funny because Bethesda did the same thing to Obsidian when they were making New Vegas. ridiculous deadlines caused the game to release in a buggy state and made reviews lower than the original review score that Bethesda had wanted the game to get so they would give Obsidian a bonus, but Obisidian's reviews were just under what they wanted and Obsidian wasn't given the money.
I would give my left nut to play it, I just played Prey 2006 and it holds man, it's so much more fun and creative than the Prey 2017.
ᅚᅚ except fro doom.... And wolfenstien and dishonored and pretty much everything besides the their open world stuff
Also try more a love letter to system shock than dishonored
Ike of Pyke and Bioshock and DeadSpace
Purpletrax no system shock, according to their own words, this is what Dishonored was to thief for system shock. and as bioshock was literally "system shock 2 but underwater" down to the twist of the helpful character turning out to be the main villian(Shodan and Atlas) and the person you thought was the main threat when the game starts up is actually just a footnote in the main story arch after losing power to the real main villian (Xeres/Ryan). The inventory, the type of powers to the pass codes. It's all system shock
ᅚᅚ This is more of a reboot of the first game than being prey 2. You're lost aren't you.
Didnt even know there was already Gameplay of Prey 2. Wow, that makes it even more fucked up.
Never subscribed to a channel faster than to this one.
Time to flood Humanhead's inbox with requests for a Kickstarter.
Bob Tom connect the charachter names from the old one so there's a connection and change the games name.

"quality standards" ? says the devs who released buggy games one after another like elder scroll serie or fallout3 onwards...
Prey 2 didn't have enough glitches and bugs.
It still hurts. This game looked awesome. Really wish they manage to bring this back somehow...someday.
'Not up to our quality standard' ... meanwhile, Fallout 76
This aged well
What I've learned during my two playthroughs of the new prey:
Inventory space is an issue early game, so suit expansions are super important.
Duh
Don't forget to use your psychoscope to identify new enemies; it unlocks more of the skill tree.
That being said, don't accidentally recycle your modded weapons :P
I'd love to hear anyone else's tips if they have them.

Dylan Salvitti you're probably wanting the Visceral games/Amy Henning game which looks like 1313
I gave the new PREY a 10/10.
Bill Sci The Nyeence Guy True. Its fine when games are solid enough in concept to enjoy.

Cyberpunk 2077 in space... I was so excited about this game back then.
If people demand the Snyder Cut, then we should demand for Prey 2 to be released (if it was actually finished before being cancelled)
This channel has amazing content damn it!!!! It's like the golden era of G4 revamped with its own spin! Makes me miss shows like Icons. Or miss G4 shows in general.
Prey(2017) has generally good reception, but Prey 2 looks way cooler and less generic.
But anyway, that's just my opinion on this, so take it with a grain of salt.
prey 2017 was a great game, glad they cancelled prey 2....
Even the demo was boring as shit. Prey 2017 is ass.
Prey is a good Shock game, but an absolutely abysmal Prey game
prey 2017 is boring as fuck since its basicly bioshock in space.
Strange that the second released game also had the name of just "Prey", not "Prey 2". But I have to say it's an amazing game. I don't know how this Prey 2 would have come out, but the one that did come out is very good.
I love the new prey but prey 2 looked fucking epic
I hate to be one of those people but here goes: this prey looked so much more exciting than the new one. I would of definitely preferred to see the new one being made. Even though I say I'd prefer the cancelled one, I do still think the new one is outstanding and still fits the series. I just hope in the future they'll back and reproduce the game
Makes me hate bethesda year by year
I have to admit, this documentary/history channel covering of gaming is refreshing and incredibly entertaining.
I still don't understand why people still think of Bethesda as a genuine game dev/publisher after all the shady shit they've been involved with.

Still wanna be a space bounty hunter tho xD the new one looks nice but still
Marguns21 Mace Griffin you play a space bounty hunter.
Kicking ass to Johnny Cash, hell yeah.
Sort of like a Red Dead Redemption in space. Not exactly like Red Dead but you get the idea....I hope.
Without the dying in the end part and horses so I guess I get your drift
liking new prey, this looks okay too...I don't know how the shooting would compare to the dishonored-esque feel of the combat in the reboot.
Papa Chanka nice try troll
Arkane's Prey is great but I would've loved to play Human Head's game. The Noir/Western bounty-hunter trope is a strong one in SciFi.
Prey 2017 is basically Gmod Prop Hunt lmao
Shame we never got this. I do think it's a scummy business move to slip the skin of another property on a totally unrelated game, but *sigh* I suppose we shouldn't complain. System Shock 3.... err, "Prey," is pretty damn good.
This channel makes their videos like documentaries of videogames! It will easily grow, good luck GVMERS :)
The truth is, arcane was working on a space dishonored but Bethesda was afraid of launching a new franchise and since they just had canceled prey 2 they said: "Hey we just canceled this game its also about aliens and space n shit. Lets call this game prey and since its in fashion lets call it a reboot."
ive been working for over 10 years now in the industry. Always the same shit.
You have a great voice. Could listen to it all day. Very high quality videos. Great channel.
Instead of Space Bounty Hunter, we got Dead Space v2... Thanks Bethesda
BTW, great actual games journalism guys, keep it up.
It's not even Dead Space. Not Half Life, not Bioshock, Deus Ex or any other game Prey has been compared to. It's System Shock, plain and simple. The exact opposite of what original Prey was.
Yeah, they turned Prey into a walking simulator with gunplay added as an afterthought. So exciting.
That and save bug.
fallout 4 wasnt fun but it still managed to get published.
You know it kind of upsets me that this channel doesn't have more subscribers because the production value for all their videos is so high.
depressing is the word i would use to describe this. we cant we have anything nice?
I'm kinda happy history played out like it did. It gave us Prey (2017) which, in my opinion, is one of the best and most overlooked at games of 2017.
Bethesda turned a kick-ass and original shooter with a cyberpunk setting (sorely lacking, these days) into a watered down, shittier version of System Shock 2.
What a great, informative video. The voice-over guy is brilliant. He sounds like the narrators of television documentaries.
Thank god they did Prey as what it is and not what it is "supposed to be" It become litteraly one of the best games in last 5 years. Best game i play in 2017 so far.
MrZlocktar thank god someone finally with some sense
I see this and hope Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t suffer the same fate. That demo they showed has the same “too good to be true” aura that myself and others felt when seeing this gameplay from Prey 2 back in the day. And Punk 2077 has the same rocky and lengthy development as well...
I haven't played the new Prey, but it looks remarkably dull compared to what little gameplay we saw of Prey 2
It's closer to Bioshock than Prey, but that's not a bad thing. It is VERY well written.
Prey reboot is grossly underrated and got overlooked/forgotten way too soon. Its story is fantastic, gameplay is varied enough you could do 2 or 3 very different playthroughs. Prey reboot is actually a very good game.
If you like survival horror, the new one is a really awesome game.
Because "quality" is Bethesda's standard...lol. Perhaps after the modding community fixes and improves every potential bug...what a shame
What standards are they talking about? I mean.. Fallout 4 is out.
This looks so much better than the prey we did get.
hahaha quality standards. that's actually insulting to gamers considering the "standards" of rogue warrior, a game that was universally panned as being one of the worst games of all time
but one of the best worst games of all time though at least...man...Rogue Warrior is my game of the year every year....it's so bad that it's funny and great both at the same time...I mean wouldn't spend 60 bucks on it...but for ten bucks...I would....
Rogue Warrior doesn't even deserve to be paid, as the campaign is said to last only two hours. What made Bethesda THINK it's okay to publish such a game in the first darn place? Did they get persuaded by the potty mouth language from the protagonist?
"Rogue Warrior" is the "Duty Calls" of 2009.
New Prey is just as good as old Prey imo. Both games are great and yeah it sucks Prey 2 got cancelled but the new one is a solid 9/10 imo.
Upload more often , please!!! Might be the most underrated channel on TH-cam!
Do F.E.A.R series please!
No. The 2017 release was bad and it doesn't even take place in the same universe as the original Prey game.
I want this game back soooo bad. It was the most refreshing, gorgeous game that has come about from the FPS genre in a very long time
why did they even had to name this new game Prey?
spooky1000 uh... because Bethesda hates new IP's?
spooky1000 Because it has a lot more in common with Prey 2007 than Prey 2?
lmao it has nothing in common with the original prey
They're not even in the same universe!
ECH! don't hate prey series
There should be a publisher that just takes in cancelled games and releases and sells them as budget titles. It would never happen for loads of reasons, but that would be an amazing hodgepodge! Also, i'm glad GVMERS figure out to pull some of the highs out of the mix, this is so harsh and i'm so glad I have an eq.
x16 times the detail.
Steves voice is mesmerising. One of the best on TH-cam.
I'm pretty sure Bethesda knew what it was doing when it canceled this dog's breakfast. The Arkane Prey is excellent.
Ive got the most unsatisfying half-chub thinking of Prey 2 and Star Wars 1313. The concept must be one of the coolest things to exist and it failing twice despite being nearly ready to serve is just sooo frustrating >:|
To be fair... Arkanes Prey is AMAZING!
