A good raid leader says what everybody is thinking.

One of my only classic wow raiding experiences was in MC when geddon put his living bomb debuff on me and I did a 180 and hit sprint so I could run away from the melee group and I accidentally ran towards the ranged ppl but I quickly realized and turned to the side and ran away and only I exploded. I just remember that raid leader screaming my name at the top of his lungs because all he saw was a rogue running straight towards the caster group thinking he was gonna blow up lmfao

Its some primal tribalist stuff where the "leader" chimps out at the least valuable tribemember. Makes ur ape brain happy to see action and "leadership" I think. Insanely funny when recorded and you are just watching it on youtube :)

Yelling at your raiders is mega cringe. It means you failed in leadership to adequately prepare your group for accomplishments.
Do you need to correct mistakes? Absolutely. But yelling at grown men about failing a mechanic is peak childish.
    Yes, I raid lead.

yelling just destroys the raid, yeah some sickos get off with watching the RL go crazy on someone, but most of the ppl dont like it and it will break the raid team if it happens all the time.
if i have to yell at someone so they perform well id rather replace them for someone that can perform well of their own volition, most wow players are adults, most dont want to waste their small time to play stressing out with childish players (be it the RL or just someone from the roster)

Met the old guild leader in barrens chat today. We took a trip down memory lane, and talked about all the people we used to play with. When talking about the different eras of guild leadership we had, we hit strongly upon the two different types of good leaders we had: Visionaries, and organizers.
The founder was a visionary. He had the raw charisma to convince people of his idea, and that it should be implemented. He set out the idea that you can have everybody be welcome in the guild, so long as we make it *social* to do the work. (I do mean we had everything. we had people regularly parsing grey without dying, but also people using squawk, and explosives on CD, and who considered a 95 a disappointing parse. )This meant we, as a everything-goes guild, still had most people joining up and contributing to getting ready with NR for huhuran (lol) well in time for AQ release, for example.
The second type of leader is an organizer. They'll manage a bench and a roster, and keep things ticking along with as much precision as you can possibly muster when dealing with people just playing wow as a hobby. They'll line up reserves and sim out who gets the most out of upgrades, but then still distribute loot in the way that keeps people the most happy. As each guild leader got burnt out and replaced, we progressively had more and more organizer-oriented guild masters, and we gradually saw the pace of people joining-and-leaving the guild would increase.
To conclude: Big words and slogans and hot air and good stories matter AT LEAST as much to the health of the guild as the things you actually do.

Did raids in classic but felt like being part of a military group, cleared content fast but for what in return? Felt like a job in addition to my real job in the end so I quit and moved on

I feel like there is also a difference between just a raid team you only see once or twice a week vs a guild that raids together along with doing dungeons/other games/etc. together. Not only does it build chemistry, but it helps you as players to understand what someone's strengths and weaknesses are. It also depends on the environment you want to build, hence why the lead is the one who sets the tone for the entire vibe of a raid. If I was ever put on the spot and felt blamed/disliked rather than educated for my understanding of a mechanic in a video game, why would I want to keep playing with that group?

This makes me think of things in parabolas. Take -40 dkp minus guy; we all thought that shit was funny as hell. But now imagine being the person that fucked up on that mechanic - to your point exactly. This to me would be in the 80% part of the distribution. Toxic raid leader uses force to boost majority morale (this does not work if you are not also charismatic at times).
The bottom 10% would be leaders who are simply ignorant or incompetent yet have something special about them that people particularly enjoy. Idk maybe mizkif>?? lol
The top 10% are leaders who have at least most of all the right characteristics. You need the fairness and gusto to delegate while also showing that you're capable of yelling. Ahmpy

I'm that guy who played one time and got screamed at by 10 dudes who play every class and have seen the fights 5 times before I got a chance to see it once on the first lockout. Was a part of 2 different raid teams during my time playing and both times I was pretty much cut out of the inner circles because I didn't have 5+ days a week to dedicate to a virtual world. safe to say I probably wont raid ever again lmao

there's a reason i and many others don't raid lead anymore. So we can enjoy the game, come in to blast and leave. Raid leading is frankly for suckers

I've been watching this guy for a while and he's kind of elitist but the sort of elitist that isn't toxic. I definitely respect this opinion.
