small correction, at 7:35 I read unmanned as unarmed, when referring to the UAV. ignore what I said, cyclops refers to any UNMANNED aerial vehicle not, unarmed as I said in the video.

Really enjoying your educational vids man! This one in particular would be really helpful for someone transitioning from SP to MP. Just one small detail: "Buster" I believe would be a directive to fly at maximum military speed i.e. no afterburner whereas "Gate" would mean maximum speed with afterburner. Keep it up S!

Just got into DCS recently and these 2 year old videos have been lifesavers! I love mil and flight sim games because these types of things go across the whole genre.
At 11:00, 'buster' is max continuous, i.e. military power...NOT afterburner. The brevity for that is 'gate'

One I didn't hear you mention, and to be honest I don't recall you using, is "No joy" used to indicate that you have lost visual track/ situational awareness of your opponent in a dogfight.

Another small correction needs to be added. "Shack" means "target hit with expended munitions" and "Splash" is "a confirmed downing of an aircraft"

Some context on SCRAM: it is an acronym for Safety Control Rod Axe Man, and derives from Dr. Enrico Fermi and the Chicago Pile-1 experimental reactor, which had control rods operated by a set of ropes and pulleys that came back to a single "master rope" anchored to a cleat against a wall of the control enclosure. Dr. Fermi's English was somewhat accented, and he wanted to get the command out quickly when it became necessary to do an emergency shutdown of the reactor. Someone suggested the first letter of every word, which was much easier for Dr. Fermi to say, and the rest was history.
“Angels”. As I understand it Angels was originally intended to be referenced to a pre-determined altitude. If the Angels altitude was 1,000 feet, “Angels 5” would be 6,000 feet above sea level. Bullseye and Angels were a way to do a pseudo-code if comms were not reliably encrypted.
I believe the Angels reference in DCS is always sea level. With more reliable encrypted voice, this may be the case in the real world also.

Good stuff! Your vids are great. For your consideration, Sierra Hotel a.k.a. Shit Hot is less often used to describe a dangerous zone and more to describe something as totally badass. If you do something utterly amazing, that would be Sierra Hotel. :)

If you mentioned it I missed it, but "cherubs" refers to altitude in hundreds of feet, so obviously less than "angels one." I've never actually heard it used and I imagine it would really only apply to helos. Back in the day when Vikings ruled the sky (a little joke there) it's possible cherubs could have been used during the prosecution of a sub target or when checking out a surface contact, but I don't recall ever hearing it.
Your voice (speech tone) has definitely changed over the period of time. But the coolness, calmness and soothing of your tone is still remains the same.
You mentioned unguided bombs and laser guided bombs, but what about others such as the GBU-31 JDAM?
Pitbull - is there an indication on instruments or the HUD when a missile is Pitbull, or do you just estimate it?
If I lock up a bogey and request a BRA from AWACS (and the bogey is actually a friendly air craft) would AWACS respond with, "Buddy Spike," or does that only apply between currently flying pilots? (Also, for the sake of argument, let's pretend that we aren't in radio contact with said bogey.)
Old comment, but you'd say to the awacs "declare target, my 12" (or wherever he is relative to you) and he should give you the aircraft type and whether it's friendly or not.
If you know the bearing and distance of the bogey from you, you could give the awacs that info too for accuracy.

Hot menas you and another aircraft is head to head. Cold is when he turns away or turns past 45 degrees

IFF cant identify enemies. It can only identify friendlies otherwise its unkown. If unkown, you have to visual identify it because it could be a friendly which IFF has a malfunction.

It generally isn't necessary because your buddies don't have to worry about unguided rockets accidentally locking on to them

BRA is from you. They may also give a B/E as well.

I know this comes late, but you were talking about Bogey and Bandits. What you didn't explain is that just because you've identified a bogey as a bandit, this does not give you authorization to engage until bandit goes Hostile, then you're authorized to engage.
mmmm bandits ARE hostile. Things that are NOT hostile are Bogeys (unknown), when you call something a bandit you are by extension saying it has already been identified as hostile, the BANDIT has been identified as hostile either by you, your wingman or your AWACS. your ability to engage comes down to the ROE of your mission not the identification of your bogey/bandit.
I recently installed DCS and I'm intimidated by how many things I have to know XD (even more by the fact that everything in the cockpit is "clickable" so I can break everything) guess I'll just stick to arma 3 koth. But good vid anyway now I can play smartass on arma servers shouting SEAD when im getting fired at by AA.

Basically it’s a previously unknown/unseen group within a briefed (range) criteria. Usually seen by surveillance or fighter radar.
New contact on scope. They just popped up for the first time on radar. New group popup radar contacts. Haha just noticed this is yrs old. 🤦♂️
