    crowley’s “make it rain. when they’re trying to hide out from it, they’ll talk, stare into each other’s eyes and fall in love” plan sounds pretty familiar. *flashbacks to season 1 when aziraphale and crowley talked in eden and aziraphale used his wing to shield crowley from the first ever rain* i wonder why crowley would think this is such a sure fire way to get someone to fall in love? 🤔

    What an intelligent reaction! Most reactions are limited to "That was so cute" or "Wow, that's amazing," but with you, I truly enjoy every minute of the Good Omens reactions because you have so much insightful commentary to share about what you're watching. I'm looking forward immensely to the upcoming Good Omens reactions!

    You are sharp to pair Crowley with Maggie and Nina with Aziraphale for similarity. A lot of people pair them the other way; Crowley and Nina are snarky and seem cynical; Maggie and Aziraphale seem softer. But those are just appearances.

    Also, too be fair in regards to Aziraphale’s shop not being ADA compliant, dude goes out of his way to NOT make his shop accessible to anyone. 😂 In the book he goes so far as to make it smell bad and glare at people so they don’t stay, and in the show he has a sign that only reads closed.

    You are very fast in observing themes and motivations! For me, it's been about living with the show for three weeks, coming back to it in some capacity every day and digging up more and more stuff. I'm sure there's still a lot more to find. The text is RICH this season!

    I really love the scene of Crowley tempting Aziraphale into eating food for the first time. If you watch throughout this season and the last, Crowley really seems to enjoy watching Aziraphale eat, while he himself only seems to like to drink. I saw someone on tumblr comment as well that Aziraphale's delight in the food may have come from him being "starved" of the pleasures of the flesh since forever, which is interesting to think about. Also lol yes, we all got jump scared by Gabriel's wig in this episode. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season! I'm looking forwards to reading and watching your analysis.

      If you haven’t listened to it already, they did a mini episode during lockdown where Crowley outright tells Aziraphale he could “slither over and watch you eat cake”.
      So…theory semi confirmed?

    Crowley has definitely had to exhibit a great deal of patience within his relationship with Aziraphale. Even in season one, in the scene where Crowley turned the paintball guns into real guns, Aziraphale's first assumption is that he's letting people murder each other. He always assumes the worst of Crowley when bad things happen. And he always denies his friendship with Crowley as soon as he thinks they might get in trouble. Crowley recognizes that he's the product of deep Dogma and doesn't take any of it very personally (most of the time) for 6000 years. That's patience.

    Another incredible reaction and analysis. Hope you feel better soon, and please keep up the good work! ❤
    And a small correction: in the hiding miracle, they actually stated they would do one half of the miracle *for the other*. Which means Azi hid Gabriel from Hell, and it was CROWLEY who did the incredibly powerful miracle to hide Gabriel from Heaven.

    • @TrinityProcessing
      @TrinityProcessing ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Not necessarily, that was in no way confirmed and remember that hell also noticed that massive miracle. I think its more likely that it was their combined power

    • @ceebee2
      @ceebee2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@TrinityProcessing combined, yes, they were more powerful than Gabriel. But there is also the line by Aziraphale: “I could hide him from your former people, and you could hide him from mine. It would barely move the dials.” And Shax only spoke of Heaven noticing the plume/alarms going off, so it was Crowley’s half of the miracle to be performed by “only the mightiest of Archangels,” which is consistent with the constants hints of just how high-ranking Crowley was before the Fall.

    • @TrinityProcessing
      @TrinityProcessing ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ceebee2 i mean, its a fair theory but its just speculation, we dont know how miracles work or how heaven becomes aware of them. Your theory would imply that heaven is only aware of miracles directed at them and not general miracle energy, wich i personally think is more likely. Point is, we dont know and should not state a theory as fact. Even though i think its a solid theory :)

    • @cawareyoudoin7379
      @cawareyoudoin7379 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The implication that Crowley's part of the miracle was more powerful is incorrect.
      A minor spoiler ahead, but:
      They hid Gabriel equally well from demons.

    • @diane_5789
      @diane_5789 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I also believe that what makes this miracle so powerful is the merging of Aziraphele and Crowley's powers. It is one single miracle that, because it was done by both an Angel and Demon, became so much stronger than the sum of its parts.
      Their smallest collaboration is so powerful that it can rival the power of the Prince of Heaven. Me thinks that is the catch!
      Also, Gaiman responded about the strength of "common miracles" recently, and he said that usually they are registered on a scale of millilazzari to centilazzari.

    Love your analysis, thank you for giving it! Really resonated a lot with your reactions, you point out themes and communication issues I don't think a lot of people give enough credit to even after these few weeks. You really do have a keen eye (regardless of distance to screen). And the show really does deserve this kind of observation because Neil didn't write those themes in without intention. As a fan and someone who works in media it's exciting to see someone pick them up.
    You absolutely know how to read characters, it's a delight. "The theme of long suffering" INDEED.
    Will enjoy it a lot to see your journey through this season and hear your thoughts on it. Keep up!

    1 Lazarus is the miracle might that is necessary to resurrect one dead body - 25 Lazari is a plural: resurrecting 25 dead people all at once - this high scale miracle happened because an angel and a deamon worked TOGETHER to perform (each one half of) a miracle to hide Gabriel from being detected or recognized by the Forces of Hell OR Heaven "It got somewhat stronger than intended". Because this forceful miracle could be backtracked to Aziraphel's bookshop, he used the white lie of 'bringing Maggie and Nina together and fall in love with each other'. This had to be verified by Muriel (naive and unknowing of humans) and Crowley bought them some time by telling her that something as complicated as love takes some time to stick on humans - just wait a few days... And now they were forced to make the white lie become reality (they will fall in love... even if the timing of the events is a bit off - and the "lie" would cease to exist as such) Only they did not...
    Something similar happened to Neil Gaiman himself, when he was starting his career: trying to get interviews with interesting authors (and gaining insight into their approach to their work) he told them of all the prestigious magazines he had written articles for - and now it is NOT a lie or exaggeration because he did - somewhat later in his timeline & got published to proove it!

    I've rewatched this series so many times and am still catching (or think I am catching) clues I missed on previous viewings. Azi reacting to the coming of the heavenly hosts with "that's not good at all" could mean so much more than just a flippant comment.

    I think you're the first person I saw that connected the mirrors in a Maggie-Crowley and Nina-Aziraphale way! I feel like connecting them the other way can be more obvious but much less deep- it's a trap just because Nina is more grumpy and Maggie is cheerie and old fashioned, it's easy to focus on that.

    my favourite thing about this season is how many layers of meanings and character work it has worked into it. it'll give you a whole lot on a first watch, and then it keeps giving and giving the more times you rewatch it. it came out 3 weeks ago and i honestly can't stop thinking about it, coming back to it, reading new takes by different people even now. i honestly think it is such an accomplishment as a writer to be able to create something like that and in a limited series too. in only 6 episodes neil gaimen and the team who worked on the show gave me more to think about than some shows that can't do a fraction of it with 3+ seasons.
    my personal favourite part of this episode is how it deepens aziraphale and crowley's characters and relationship without changing anything of the 7 episodes we've seen them already in. i love character work like that, that re-shades previous season/episodes into a richer colour with the added knowledge. i love how we see that this is the moment "their side" truly started to take shape. we see aziraphale waver in his beliefs in god's ineffable plans and we also see crowley doing the morally good thing even though he's a demon. their last scene where they sit together and have that conversation about "i/you are just an demon/angel who goes along with hell/heaven as far as he can" is the greatest bit of it all because it's like the show finally put it into the perfect words who these two really are and how really they are the same, and how that defines their relationship from here onwards. i can't get enough of it.
    thank you for another great commentary despite your killer headache! i hope you've been feeling better since filming this.

    You’re one of the few people I’ve seen who immediately linked the fly to Beelzebub! You’d think more people would make that connection, but I guess not. I can’t really judge, though, because I didn’t notice the fly to begin with the first time watching!
    The parallels between Maggie and Nina tend to lean Azi-Maggie and Crow-Nina, so I never considered it the other way around! Now that you mention it, though, it does also make a lot of sense that way.

    The title of the minisode is "a companion to owls". From what I understand, it's a quote from the book of Job, and it means being on the same level as creatures that were both damned and mourning what they lost? And it's not about Job, not really, in this context. Also, Crawly's anachronistic glasses are apparently owl-related. So. Fun.
    Sorry, someone else could have probably explained it better.

    I’m glad to hear someone else agree that Maggie and Nina’s dynamic felt off, given how little time the show gives them. Speaking only for myself here, It’s hard to get me to NOT root for a gay pairing, but I just was not feeling it with these two at all, in the same exact way I don’t care about the obligatory straight couple with forced chemistry most shows try to cram in. Which was an odd first for me.

    I haven't seen all your reactions to season 2 yet, so ignore this if you actually corrected this later, but: the "crow" in Crowley's name is pronounced like the bird "crow", not "cow" with an r stuck in there. I don't know how you're not pronouncing it like they do in the show, since obviously you have seen the show, but... that's my only complaint.

      Because Crowley is a real-life last name and that is the American way to pronounce it while the show pronounces it the British way. So Americans tend to do this subconsciously. ;)
