James had a difficult relationship with his parents as a teenager, his father abandoned the family when he was around 13 years old and years after his mother died of cancer, this later translated into songs like: "Dyers Eve"; "The Unforgiven"; "The God That Failed"; "Mama Said" among others.
One of my favorite songs from my youth, this was.the first MetallicA album, first non Christian album I bought growing up. This album change everything I knew about music, and forever would give me a friend in James Hetfield when I had no one else to turn to.
This song always hits me hard. The lyrics describe a time in my life all too well and lost my mother to cancer before I could reconcile 😢 Metallica wrote the soundtrack for my life 🤘
The lyric writing on Load might be peak Hetfield as well. Early albums, particularly MoP and AJFA seemed to have a lot of outwardly directed anger/angst, with Load and Reload really turning inward with lots and lots of self-reflection. It took me a long time and some "aging up" to really appreciate Load and now it's probably one of my top 3-4 Metallica albums.
@@marcelodesouzamachado9864 I grown listening too Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning But with age the load and reload have grown in me to the point that I hear these albums more than the first 4, if Metallica had take the best songs of these 2 albums in only 1 we would have one of their best album’s haver made
Please do live version from Jool Hooland 1996 with James alone with the guitar do this song and fyi this song has never been performed live by the band and the video never got released in USA on tv, its released on music videos dvd that Metallica some time agowith all their music videos and extended and uncut videos
I used to hate this song... But now.... We grow up.
James asking his dead mom to let him move on. Heavy stuff
I need your arms to welcome me, but a cold stone’s all I see
My mom died when I was 5 so I really related with this one

This is how songs are born brother
You are correct, these two albums were better than all other music at its best in my opinion

I love this song forever

Hi i really like your reactions, and i think you would really love My Apocalypse or All Nightmare Long, both are fast and energetic
If it's by Metallica, it's a Metallica song.
Load is criminally underrated. Hetfield's vocal work on this album is amazing. Outlaw Torn & Bleeding Me are the S tier songs from this album.
Couldn’t agree more

Never thought I'd hear Metallica go country!
