- In this video I check out The Super Mario Bros. Super Show 64. This is a rom hack for Super Mario 64 made by Pasta Power. This hack is inspired by the The Super Mario Bros. Super show and is based off of 6 episodes of the show.

What you did is nothing short of amazing!
The reason why Super Show had so many sound effects and themes from Super Mario Bros 2 was because 1 and 2 were the only games released in the west at the time. This is probably also why some of the episode themes are so bizarre because they had so little to go off of.
also, King Koopa was going to be Wart originally.
@@Gernam12 There's this one advertisement in Nintendo Power 7 that just mentions that both Bowser and Wart were going to appear but I presume Wart's role was just merged with Bowser's role considering the DIC cartoons were released in Japan, too, and SMB2USA was not yet released in Japan, which could have alienated a lot of Japanese viewers.

@@robbiewalker2831 I'm pretty sure it was shown, anyway, since stuff like the Mario movie managed to get super popular there with tons of advertisements. I don't know why the SuperShow would be any different. Could be wrong there.
The fact that I recognized every levels of what episode they're based off, makes me smile like a child.
I was actually a kid when the SMBSS first aired. That's how old I am. It helped stimulate my love for Mario. Seeing SMBSS-inspired fangames and mods always makes me smile because the artists at DiC entertainment had their own bizarre take on the fantastical wonderlands Mario travels through on his various adventures -- especially on the Super Show, where they more liberally interpreted the Mario aesthetic because the Mario universe was not so nailed down and they probably only got a few pieces of concept art from Nintendo of the enemies and such. Being able to play through that alternate universe strikes me as a blast.

What a cool idea for a mod - very well executed. The jail level especially was really cool.
I am assuming that the music during the king koopa fight is supposed to be Fat by Weird Al which is a parody of Bad by Michael Jackson

I watched this show extensively as a kid back in the early 90s on the family channel. It was a critical start to a sunny Saturday morning . I loved mario bros 3 and the mario world animated series that the super show had to offer after bozo the clown was off air. DIC Entertainment created childhood memories when they pulled this gem off.
Typical saturday morning, wake up, make a bowl of cereal, try not to trip over cat/dog/iguna to get to the tv, turn on tv to watch SMSS.

The Super Show is alright. Probably the unironic best of the DiC Nintendo cartoons. Its so cool to see somebody show the cartoon so much love after so much time. The Super Show feels like a work of early franchise jank nowadays, but its still got a lot of appeal. I'd still show it to a child who likes Mario. And Captain Lou is just such an iconic Mario.

Mario had two distinct early franchise jank eras, as both Jumpman, and in the early 90s as the franchise tried to localise abroad. I just think its interesting.
I found out about the Super Show through the internet. There was a lot of irony-poisoned love and "love" for it in 00s Flash movies.
I can vouch for this. My 5 year old daughter loves Mario, and after showing her "Super Mario Bros. Super Show" and "The adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3", shes always wanting to watch them now.
I don’t know about you guys, but for Mario animations my heart has always called back to DiC’s cartoons (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros. 3 and The New Super Mario World).
Although I can remember Butch Mario And The Luigi Kid coming after The Bird! The Bird! and NOT King Mario Of Cramalot. Weirdly, I can remember the third episode I listed here as the third episode of the entire series.
It all depends on where in the world you live in and what episode order the DVDs there list down. Since I’m from the UK, you can guess Butch Mario was the second episode and not King Mario.
Also, Sgt Slaughter is in said second episode’s sitcom sketch “All Steamed Up”. And the Steam-o-Matic too. No “orphans” or preferably lost daughters in this episode!
That is just great. A game based on the cartoon that is based on the game.

Also, I think this is just super duper cool that you made a video of this man I've been wanting you to play this rom hack for a while now. I think you're the first person I've seen on TH-cam so far where you played through the entire rom hack instead of just pieces of it man (like other people). Also, they should totally make a rom hack of this show in Mario Sunshine. They should also make a rom hack of the Zelda cartoon in Ocarina of Time, and a rom hack of the Donkey Kong Country cartoon in DK 64 (not the Donkey Kong Country game itself because it's 2D and not 3D and therefore has limited assets to make the hack into that game because the show is 3D with so much going on in that show). Maybe for 3rd party games, they should put all the Sonic cartoons in Sonic Adventures 1 and 2 as rom hacks, the Mega Man cartoon from Cartoon Network in Mega Man 64 (since again they're both in 3D and not 2D like in the original Mega Man games), and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures in the Pac-Man World games (because yet again they're all 3D and not 2D). Lastly, yes it's Michael Jackson's Bad and not Ghostbusters man silly.

I grew up with this and the other Mario cartoons. I’ve actually been working on an ESRGAN upscale model designed for the Super Show. I’ve got one that works well for the animated portions, but the separate model for the live action still needs work.

Does it work on Everdrive 64. I test that rom hack on everdrive, it has graphics and freezes on level 2, but works on level 1.

Is this playable on real hardware with an Everdrive?
It would have to be ported to said emulator first. Theres too many issues/bugs at the moment. Some freezes and it seems unstable on everdrive.
