it would have made a ironic ending if after the killer said that to the kid he gets arrested somehow by the authorities for life so while the kid is being scared for the rest of his life thinking the killer will get him anytime the killer is stuck in a jailcell forever lol

Mandy is a better eighties style horror movie than this as it doesn’t feel like a parody of the eighties and doesn’t make fun of the eighties like this as that movie succeeds where this and IT 2017 failed as it sincerely loves the 80s unlike those movies as it feels sincere.
Even Mandy is a better 2018 horror film than Halloween 2018 which Halloween 2018 is just greatest hits album movie and offers nothing new where Mandy feels fresh

I enjoyed the film but the director’s earlier movie, Turbo Kid, is better. The same composers did the score as well. Summer of ‘84 might have been inspired by Stranger Things but it’s a more accurate depiction of the the 1980s.
I wouldn’t mind seeing you review Turbo Kid at some point as I don’t think you have yet.

I heard about this movie. I have no interest in seeing it. I'm past this 80s nostalgia BS. 2010s and 2020s movies can't recreate the decade in any convincing way. It always seems to be about showcasing 80s style and material over telling a story. That goes for _Stranger Things,_ as well.

Always 80s-like style without any of the good 80s-like substance , even then very few movies so far ever truly feel stylistically authentic.
I'd love to see more If they could all be done right , like Ti West's "The House Of The Devil" aesthetically/atmospherically was imo.

Do you think films like this or IT 2017 failed because they don't truly love the eighties but make fun of the eighties? There are some 80s wannabe movies that succeeded like Mandy because that doesn't make fun of the 80s at least as it respects it and feels an 80s film with a modern code of paint and isn't a parody of the 80s like IT 2017 or this movie.
Even Joker 2019 felt genuine to the 80s and didn't feel like a parody of the 80s as it also succeeded where IT 2017 and this failed.
How do you feel about 90's nostalgia next?

_Joker_ was an exception. It told a story about a character who happened to live in 1980, rather than tell 1980 that happened to have a character, like most of these movies do. As for _IT_ (2017), that did the "Hey, we're in the 80s!" crap, too. Maybe not as heavyhanded, but it was there. Plus, it wasn't very good at telling the _IT_ story, anyway; I prefer the 1990 movie. Movies used to be able to tell stories in different decades without constantly reminding us we were in that decade. With the 80s, filmmakers really like to tell us we're in the 80s most of the time. And about 90s nostalgia, that will probably do worse than 80s nostalgia.

Ever seen Rocky IV Director's Cut? Rocky IV director's cut. Saps the energy, fun, and 80s-ness of the original cut. One example of just how 'out of touch' this cut is...
Sweetest Victory was a song that I loved on the soundtrack. Oh wow, they are adding it back to the movie? Well..
This is the version they used, a crappy/inferior version:
      th-cam.com/video/GYt-w9HI5dY/w-d-xo.html
Instead of the Much Better Version from the original soundtrack:

Sadly...even Sly himself doesn't understand what made the 80s great.
And that's the problem with all of these folks today. Filmmakers, producers, actors and so forth. They just look at the 80s as 'cheesy, goofy' and think that (for a new film) if you put an 80s song, hair, crazy clothes...that equals the 80s spirit.
But it doesn't. SINCERITY is what is missing. The 80s movies were Our Generation's versions of Comic Books. When we read Superman vs Parasite...yes, of COURSE is silly that one guy wears a red and blue costume and one is a creature. But they took it into a sincere seriousness (aside from Supes's wisecracks).
That's what the 80s did well. And people today don't get that. Commando, even its' humorous ways, was sincere in seriousness when Arnold is angry/pissed and wants his daughter back.
Death Wish 3, Lethal Weapon, Robocop, Cyborg, Invasion USA...even bleeding into the 90s with Hard Target, Cliffhanger...we know they are over the top and that is the Fun of it. But the Sincerity in its' seriousness of villains or situations blended into that make them more Palpable....
But the makers of today just see the word 'cheesy' and run with it. And that's why most of these '80s wannabe films' (with a Few exceptions) Fail.

Agree Wonder Woman 1984 was the most egregious one with the 80s.

0:35 I did back in 2018 and still do til this day bro.
6:05 Same here that film along with ''Fright Night'' from 1985 are both way better films then this one Matt.
    8:24 Exactly bro LOL
12:20 Both the directors and writers could stick that rug up there ASSES IMHO.
14:15-15:06 Your 100% right the hell with those 2 A-Holes.
16:08 With me I enjoyed the first half of the film but the very dark twist ending fucked it all up for me.
A very fantastic and honest job on the review there's way better films I enjoyed in 2018 way more then this film like ''Revenge'',''Death Wish''&''Mandy'' just to name a few bro.
