    I wonder if the sub was fried from over excursion due to free air, resulting in a grounded chassis on the sub. The only reason I think that is because you ran it for a while before it gave you problems. Especially with Rockford, I have a hard time believing you got 2 bad units at the same time

      The sub caused the amp to fry. Only had one defected item. The sub.

      The sub grounding out could cause the amp to die as it was getting a secondary ground directly through the driver. There are commonly plastic isolators installed between the frame of a driver and the wire terminals. I wonder if one of them might not be to spec and allowed one of the terminals to ground out. If the driver was driven to the point that the coil shorted to the frame due to insane heat it would typically (at least with the ones I have seen) have seized and with that would not pass audio at all. At the very least you would likely hear the coil scrubbing in a very serious way. Remember the coil then would no longer be attached to a former that is shaped correctly. In short, the driver would just be a mess. The theory based on the two different power sourced amps was pretty sound if there was a defective isolator or something in play though.

      That wasn't it. It didn't ignite the fumes. 😱

      You did see that there was a comment suggesting that James caused the failure. No? With that my commentary as implied was aimed at defending him. Yours seems more aimed at belittling me.

      Rob, if you meant me, I apologize. I didn't mean to be derogatory to you or James. I agree that the faulty sub blew the amp at no fault of James. I was simply being silly and making a Doug Bernards referrence.

    are you using a temporary amp to get power to the speakers?

    • @caraudioetc
      @caraudioetc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No there is a Rockford Fosgate T1000X5AD installed in the trunk which powers all; the speakers and will power the Sub when its installed.
      Currently I have the sub output on the head unit turned off so that it is not sending any signal to the subwoofer side of the amp.
