Update on Meadow: Settled in for the Night - Eagle Country Nest Abby, Blaze, Swampy, Meadow (4/3)

  • After being blown off the nest, Meadow hunkered down on the branch s/he landed on throughout the rest of today's rains. From 0:08 - 7:52 in this video, it almost looks like Swampy & Meadow are communicating a plan, with Swampy showing Meadow to flap those wings and come back home. So sweet. It's reassuring that Meadow didn't fall far, is still so close to the nest, has multiple cams trained on him/her, people nearby if absolutely needed, and most importantly - the whole family knows where everyone is & they're still together.
    At last quick glance, when looking at the various cam angles Eagle Country offers, I can also confirm that a parent is on the same branch near Meadow.
    It is not impossible to think that Meadow can make his/her way back to the nest. It's also probable that mom and dad will feed Meadow right on that branch, if need be. Let's see how tomorrow goes. Right now, Meadow is perfectly fine.

    It is so cute how it looks like each one is communicating with the other on how to flap their wings and come back home up. Thank you so much for keeping us updated on the progress.🙏🏻😘❣️🫶 From California

      Their "communications" were so precious to me. I swear, it really looked like they were discussing this whole situation & the options available. 😂

    Hoping for better days ahead, a calm day. 😊Hold on Meadow, you’ll figure it out. ❤

    It's like Swampy is telling Meadow flap your wings like this, and Meadow is answering - I'm trying and it's not working. It doesn't have enough feathers 😔. How cute that they care for each other 💕

    I’m watching as one parent is feeding the babe in the nest. So worried for Meadow sitting alone on the branch below. Can anyone intervene and get him back into the nest?

    • @WingsOfWhimsy
      @WingsOfWhimsy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      CAN they? Technically, yes. But they won't. The way it's seen, this is not an actual "grounding" & based on the eaglets' ages, it is believed that intervention can do more harm than good. It is true that Abby & Blaze are capable of bringing food to Meadow on the branch, but my concern is that they AREN'T doing that thus far (that I've noticed). I think that many are assuming/hoping that Meadow can climb back up the nest. Let's hope! It's difficult for us to process these decisions when we've seen similar or lesser scenarios that DID result in intervention, but the rules can vary by location, and (from what I've seen) the humans that monitor on-site and their calls/beliefs. In some cases, they'll intervene for almost anything, and go up for banding, etc. In others, it seems to take much more to warrant humans stepping in to help. Frankly, it confuses me because you'd think that the "risks" they are concerned about would apply universally - regardless of the state the nest is in or whether or not it has designation as a "research" nest.

    Thank you for the video. I was wondering what had happened to it after it fell.

    I just got back home after a couple hours away, and saw they disabled the chat again. 😔
    People keep talking as though it’s okay that Meadow isn’t being fed, but the more s/he expends energy trying to get back up to the nest, the more weak he/she will be, and it will be that much more difficult for him/her to get back up there (if it’s even physically possible, which I honestly doubt very much based on the few valiant but heartbreaking attempts today).
    People have remarked that the parents have been bringing way more food than normal today, and seem to think this is to try and “entice” Meadow to come back… Even if that was the reason, it’s not doing much good if Meadow physically is unable to get back up there. In my view, all it’s doing is emotionally torturing an already helpless, hungry bird. I wish something could be done.

    Poor thing must be so tired. Especially its legs, since at this age they’re still laying down and stretching their legs a lot. Hopefully it’ll get fed and can somehow make it back to the nest.

    Thats good to hear! Hope the rough weather passes quickly! Wanted to ask if you've seen anything about Bella and Scout? Last I knew Scout was bleeding at the back of his head.

    • @WingsOfWhimsy
      @WingsOfWhimsy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bella & Scout are both doing just fine. They're technically on pip watch now, but there seems to be a strong suspicion going around that the eggs were left uncovered too long too many times to be viable. I'm not ready to call that one yet though - still watching.

    At least Meadow is ok but sure hope the parents feed him

    • @WingsOfWhimsy
      @WingsOfWhimsy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Agreed! Many like to say the parents WILL feed Meadow. I know they CAN, but I would like to see it HAPPEN now! It's hard to watch Swampy pigging out while Meadow is hungrily squeeing just below.

    So is Meadow going to be rescued? It’s evident she’s unable to get back on nest so we need an intervention now before she gets weaker and pass on due to starvation. Please help Meadow stat! 😢

    Did either of the parents ever try to feed the one that fell on the branch?

    • @WingsOfWhimsy
      @WingsOfWhimsy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, they did not. I believe they were confused and simply trying to lure Meadow back to the nest, unaware that s/he couldn't get there.
