But nothing competes with the rawness and anger of their earlier music.
connor adcock i wouldn’t word it like that...but i kind of agree haha he said about Descending “there’s this blues slide guitar and then some guitar leads with some synth, it was boring” like there’s ever been another song that has those 3 things in it😂
When I listen to Tool I barely notice the guitar because the bass playing is so good that it overshadows it. Songs like Forty six & 2, Lateralus, and Schism for example I forget there's even guitar in them because those damn bass lines are incredible, oh yeah btw.... DO LEGENDARY LICKS YOU THINK ARE GUITAR BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY BASS ALREADY!!! Come on, I know there's plenty of other people asking for that one.
Schism is so legendary, once I was warming up to play a small gig in London and I played the riff and the bouncer (a big black guy with dreads) came down from upstairs because he thought we're going to do a cover.
That's because after 2 bars your brain knows that's all Adam Jones is going to play for the next 12 minutes. The bass is the melodic guitar parts in Tool.
Is it just me or is one of the things what makes Adam so unique is that his guitar playing on recording sounds so organic? Like you can hear every pick scrape, every dead note, and Everytime he plays hard it feels like he's beating the shit out of you. And also, Danny's drumming is superb on this record! Def his magnum opus imo.
This was me when Master of Puppets came out lol.. It was harder to learn guitar back then glad I had vinyl you could slow it down and this well be me learning this new Tool or what I can of it. The more things change the more they stay the same..
I love their discography but the new album is my absolute favorite. I just love the beats and rythmms. Top to bottom it's perfect. Never get sick of it. It's got a mood to it. Mystical. May not be everyone's favorite but it's mine.
Tool has an approach to their music no other band has. Their bass and percussions mixing, Jones unique guitar melodies and Tone and the way Maynard sings Is just breathtaking
Vic Firth made a video of Danny Carey playing the drums live for Pneuma. Drummers all around watch the video regularly because of the technique and pure skill required to play it well
"They're so good at making odd time signatures groove", now that's the best definition of their sound I've ever heard. Most of their regular 4/4 songs sound like groovy odd ones as well even though they're regular.
Watching you trying to figure out the verse riff of Pneuma made me chuckle a bit. Those weird time signature changes threw me off so many times. It seems so easy, but is so hard. And Tyler, why don't you listen to the album at least once _without a guitar_ and just enjoy the music? :(

Do more of this and yes incredible incredible album. It doesn't flow like 10,000 Days or Lateralus did, but it's still incredible and every piece on this album feels unique.
Now that i’ve seen tool twice since this albums release, i can say that the songs from this album live are a TOTALLY different experience, and it made me appreciate this album so much more. It is a whole ass experience live, especially culling voices and fear innoculum
Everytime I listen to this album I like it just that much more. This is definitely an album that gets better with repeat listens, as it is for most TooL records.
I.......I just don't get it man 😂😂 I can see some of the cool moments but I just don't care that much for the compositions as a whole. But this video is a cool approach to the "reaction" format working in the guitar with a first viewing. Respect for that 🤘
Grew up on tool, my mom and dad used to always listen to their albums when I was little, and back in later 2018 I started to listen to them myself and remembered certain songs I had no idea were Tool songs. I absolutely love Tool, though a lot of their songs are growers and need multiple listens to start appreciating them, but I love it.
On first listen I was disappointed, because I expected the RAGING Tool of old, especially Maynard's raspy delivery. After several listens I came to appreciate this for what it is: Tool's version of classical music, with several movements of the same melodies. It is a brooding, circular, brutally MUSICAL Tool album...and I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO IT. This is Tool at their most even and balanced. I LOVE IT.
some random guy How about you go more into depth about how Adam plays and less of the note choice? Rhythms? Nuances? It’s not just “hurrdurr D-E-F” all the time. There’s plenty to be learned from Adam Jones’ playing, just sayin’
@some random guy I see others arguing with you. But you're basically right. Not much going on with Adam's guitar playing. All old ideas slightly tweeked. Zzz zzz zzzzz
This is so much more entertaining of a reaction than all the people who don’t have a clue as to how music is actually made, I like how you can actually recognize what’s happening in the songs, not just sitting there mindlessly going “ohhhh” every time something cool happens in the song
My problem with the album is imo there's not one catchy hook by Maynard. But 7empest is the highlight of Adam Jones career... fantastic riffs throughout.
Don’t you dare point that at me is pretty catchy. Only downside is there’s no MJK scream in it. Dont you dare POINT THAT AT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I kept waiting for that and it never happened. But its ok, I guess mjk cant do it anymore.
I'll probably look back on this comment n think I was such a dumb fuck. But that's how I feel so far. I'm sure like every Tool album it'll grow on me and eventually blow my mind.
The Descending climax ("sound the dread alarm" to "stay alive") is one of Maynard's best works. The ending from 7empest, Culling Voices and Invincible are other songs in which he shines.
Hey tyler. This was a fun sit through. I enjoy your personality through your videos. Its nice to see what other fans think and this reminds me of myself. The first time i heard i didn't think it was bad at all but i was not fully convinced, i maybe compared it to much to all the classic songs but those songs are also spread over multiple albums so..., but everytime i go through the album again i keep finding it better and more interesting and everytime it is a new experience and that is crazy difficult to do as an artist so at this point i really think the songs are great and will be part of the 'classic tool songs' in a few years

@@chriswilliamson9030
You think 10k day was the angriest album? What about Undertow, and are you counting opiate in this equation?
10k days had that new production oomph, sure. and it was a lot angrier than lateralus and maybe Aenima. But nothing competes with the rawness and anger of their earlier music.
"just when I try to count, it changes"
you just described TOOL in a sentence...
oh yeah yeah?
All those short ones sound like they turned on a Korg Miku pedal and went bat shit crazy.
"I knew it...and it was exactly what I wanted" - every TOOL fan listening to this album
Infinitely better review/reaction than Fantano's complaining about song lengths.
Fantano is a fucking hipster who gives mumble rap albums higher ratings. His opinion is garbage
connor adcock i wouldn’t word it like that...but i kind of agree haha he said about Descending “there’s this blues slide guitar and then some guitar leads with some synth, it was boring” like there’s ever been another song that has those 3 things in it😂
When I listen to Tool I barely notice the guitar because the bass playing is so good that it overshadows it.
Schism's riff is one of those licks
Found davie504's alt account
Schism is so legendary, once I was warming up to play a small gig in London and I played the riff and the bouncer (a big black guy with dreads) came down from upstairs because he thought we're going to do a cover.
As a lifetime guitar and bass player, I completely agree.
People need to just let this album grow on them. They're long self indulgent songs. But I still get chills from Pneuma and 7empest
The room needs more guitars, pedals, and amps.
But that rug really pulls the room together, man.
Seems like Adam and Danny sometimes are playing two different time signatures.
Oh, ALL the time lmao
They often are
Sometimes they are but they always do it in a way that fits.
there called polyrhythms some complicated shit
@@MosinAttractedPerson and polymeters
This was me when Master of Puppets came out lol.. It was harder to learn guitar back then glad I had vinyl you could slow it down and this well be me learning this new Tool or what I can of it. The more things change the more they stay the same..
I'm just glad this didn't turn into a other chinese democracy
That album is a beautiful masterpiece. Give it another go.
st anger the best metallica album
@@Axwage alright man, I'll give it another listen.
@@matthewcattermole504 did you like it?
@@matthewcattermole504 it took a while for it to really catch on for me
I love their discography but the new album is my absolute favorite.
Drummers all around watch the video regularly because of the technique and pure skill required to play it well
Everything is cool, "as long as the D is happening"...
Why is your low E-string wound clockwise on the tuning peg? I'm pretty sure that's illegal, you madman.
Seriously, this question needs to be answered. Why is this PRS being put through this injustice?
What in the actual fuck
I didnt notice until I read this. Now its driving me bat shit crazy lmaoo
All you have to know is 9:18 of Pneuma...
Edit: Tyler, YOU SKIPPED THAT PART OF THE SONG?????
He skipped 75% of the album
Pyle Plays which is unfortunate because 75% of it is great, while the other 25% is just filler.
He said he's hearing everything, just editing it out
That riff at the end sounds like Jones is using his left hand pull-through technique. Think Jambi
I already figured out the riff, it’s pretty freaking awesome
"They're so good at making odd time signatures groove", now that's the best definition of their sound I've ever heard. Most of their regular 4/4 songs sound like groovy odd ones as well even though they're regular.
Watching you trying to figure out the verse riff of Pneuma made me chuckle a bit. Those weird time signature changes threw me off so many times. It seems so easy, but is so hard.
And Tyler, why don't you listen to the album at least once _without a guitar_ and just enjoy the music? :(
How do you know he hasn't?
@@neiloshodges2816 I mean _while_ he is reacting, not afterwards. I dedicated my whole evening to listening to this in awe. Might not be something for everyone, all good.
Max has amazing covers for anyone reading these comments. Definitely worth checking out his channel.
“I hear this, and I think that it’s building up to be heavy.”
*YOU WOULD THINK WOULDN’T YA*

That pick reappeared somewhere in Alpha Centauri.
Really love this ! Thank the heavens for this album, clearly a lot of us needed it ! I know you're a guitar player, but if you ever wanna collab i do lots of bass session work and tool covers like this one :

@@ArtofTechnologyPodcast Awesome! Love this
@@ArtofTechnologyPodcast So good, one of the best bass covers i've heard of fear inoculum
15:20 when you've been mulling something over because you've heard it before, but then you hear it for the first time with guitar-in-hand and you can play along. Goosebumps all over.
Please make more videos of you going through albums with your guitar like this, this is so cool and interesting! Love this concept. Also the music theory in all the songs too
I really like this guy! This is a cool, unique way of reviewing Tool. This young man is pretty quick and skilled at picking up on Adam Jones’s difficult style. I’ll watch more of his videos to see what else he can master. Good job man, and thank you for being cool and polite with your review.
Tool using the tabla as percussion in the first song blew my mind By the stringy thing was santoor (also in first song )
Do more of this and yes incredible incredible album. It doesn't flow like 10,000 Days or Lateralus did, but it's still incredible and every piece on this album feels unique.
Yeah, exactly. It's amazing, different, but still amazing. Sometimes people need to understand different doesn't always mean bad or worse.
I'm rating this album 7.77/10
*get it?*
I'm rating it 9/4
Haha very big funny
more like 777/10
7/7/7/7/7
Odd
Your little chuckle when the tablas came in in Fear Inoculum was so pure
Now that i’ve seen tool twice since this albums release, i can say that the songs from this album live are a TOTALLY different experience, and it made me appreciate this album so much more. It is a whole ass experience live, especially culling voices and fear innoculum
Tyler: Sips beer and continues to listen to Pneuma
Tyler a second later: Plays wrong notes on guitar
Am I the only one hearing “wings for Marie” at 13:02 and 14:52?
It's descending
Its only you its not the same not close
Everytime I listen to this album I like it just that much more. This is definitely an album that gets better with repeat listens, as it is for most TooL records.
Can't believe this coming August the album will be 3 years old. Flown.
Every time I listen to this album I have a new favorite song. So many growers on here. Phenomenal album.
When he actually skipped the heavy guitar part on invincible, wtf??
I.......I just don't get it man 😂😂 I can see some of the cool moments but I just don't care that much for the compositions as a whole. But this video is a cool approach to the "reaction" format working in the guitar with a first viewing. Respect for that 🤘
Understandable, have a nice day.
@Javier Cruz oh did you just one up me, bitch?
Maynard is also James Kumar jha
Along with Danny radhey patel
Grew up on tool, my mom and dad used to always listen to their albums when I was little, and back in later 2018 I started to listen to them myself and remembered certain songs I had no idea were Tool songs. I absolutely love Tool, though a lot of their songs are growers and need multiple listens to start appreciating them, but I love it.
Buddy, what a fantastic room/setup you have! Well done. Like your acoustic panels. :)
And of course. Great analysis. Thank you!!
I LOVE IT.
it actually took 4955 days for them to release Fear Inoculum. Just in case u wondered.
they could have waited 45 more days
@@martinpaddle or 5045... would have been proohecy XD
Get a life
Habits of adam Jones?
Why isn't this a thing yet?
some random guy How about you go more into depth about how Adam plays and less of the note choice? Rhythms? Nuances? It’s not just “hurrdurr D-E-F” all the time. There’s plenty to be learned from Adam Jones’ playing, just sayin’
Kobe Gamble just ignore the troll lol
@some random guy I see others arguing with you. But you're basically right. Not much going on with Adam's guitar playing. All old ideas slightly tweeked. Zzz zzz zzzzz
I cant tell if ppl that say hes mediocre are trolling or are actually that ignorant
Watch all your videos for years never commented. Been waiting on this album for years. Loved your take on this. Very different Concept. Thank you
This is so much more entertaining of a reaction than all the people who don’t have a clue as to how music is actually made, I like how you can actually recognize what’s happening in the songs, not just sitting there mindlessly going “ohhhh” every time something cool happens in the song
Sick new album! Now the question is...
When's the next one coming out?
The new album release is confirmed for the year 10,000.
Either never or in a long ass time
2036
2021 :-P
Probably after our deaths after we reach 115.
My problem with the album is imo there's not one catchy hook by Maynard. But 7empest is the highlight of Adam Jones career... fantastic riffs throughout.
not one catchy hook?
Don’t you dare point that at me is pretty catchy. Only downside is there’s no MJK scream in it. Dont you dare POINT THAT AT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I kept waiting for that and it never happened. But its ok, I guess mjk cant do it anymore.
Brady Carroll How is Invincible not catchy? Shit has been stuck in my head for days.
Invincible starts as a polymeter where the drums are playing in 3's and the guitar is is in 7/4
Tool is an anomaly. By far my favorite band. This was a great video Tyler. I listen to it pretty much the same way with guitar in hand.
Hey tyler.
This was a fun sit through.
I enjoy your personality through your videos.
Its nice to see what other fans think and this reminds me of myself.
I would sit through every tool album and learn the guitar with a fine tooth comb.
I enjoyed this video.
The album makes me lose where i am physically and takes me through an inward journey.
Maybe ill dissect it later but for now its like a hand attached to a smile wants to take me for a walk and remind me off the colors that exist.
Happy riffing my man
I've actually been waiting for this video.
I've been listening to this album on repeat for the last three days. It is amazing Jones tone is real! #jonestone
21:39 every Tool fan all day :)
Thanks for sharing this video with us. Dude wish I could take lessons with ya, but I’m all the way in Cali lol. You just seem so mellow in your playing and in tune with every shakra. Love how you love music and understand it. Rock on brother. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
It took me over a year to finally sit down and truly listen to this album. For me that means learning and playing the guitar, drums, bass, and vocals to the best of my limited ability and recording tracks on the garage band app. I’m part way through pneuma and invincible. I’ll be dead if I ever make it through 7empest haha.
Damn I was really hoping to see your reaction to the sickass breakdown at the end of invincible
I saw them when I was a child in 2006, it’s 2019 and I’m seeing them November 24th
Lucky bastard
its a great show. my girlfriend snagged me tickets for the show in LA the day before my birthday.
The first time i heard i didn't think it was bad at all but i was not fully convinced, i maybe compared it to much to all the classic songs but those songs are also spread over multiple albums so..., but everytime i go through the album again i keep finding it better and more interesting and everytime it is a new experience and that is crazy difficult to do as an artist so at this point i really think the songs are great and will be part of the 'classic tool songs' in a few years
You are the funniest and most entertaining guitar instructor EVER on TH-cam!!! No wonder why you always have so many views.
The drums were so well mic'd and EQ'd!
I love it!
