    Thanks so much! I try to get to the point. Quickly. The studies that I link to in the transcript are also worth reading to get a sense for how the theory works with modern media!

    normally I do not make the comment. I really appreciate the nice video and introduction to understand the theory. Thank you.

    I'm the co-author of Heinemann Media and have been teaching VCE Media since 2001. Although I have worked as an examiner, I don't speak for the VCAA. The very best source of advice for the VCE Media exam is your teacher.

    Obrigado pela força! Ajuda universitários brasileiros e também os que são formados em comunicação assim como eu, a respeito das teorias da comunicação no curso de Relações Públicas! Mesmo em inglês, deu pra entender a ideia central do vídeo! Parabéns!

    Lasswell argued that opinion leaders were ordinary people that we interact with everyday who are separate from the mass media. Opinion leaders are distributed throughout society and exist at all socioeconomic levels. They're more connected than other people and act as a filter that media messages pass through. That's what I'd write on the VCE Media SAC and exam.
    Of course, it's very interesting to think about how the theory applies to modern technology…

    Could you please recommend an academic book which clearly summarizes all the varius theories(effect theory, liberalists etc) regarding the media?

    Hey Brett... Does this theory imply that opinion leaders are separate from the media? Surely, the only way their opinion can be communicated is via the media on some level. Or does the theory imply that opinion leaders are filters through which media influence is passed?

  • @debury
    @debury 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...but as opinion leaders become more powerful it isn't a strange leap to think that the role can be reversed, especially as the great power of social media in communication/agenda-setting seems to be its ability to amass a lot of people behind an issue quicker than ever before.
    Thanks again for the vid!

    Good video, thanks
    I think the theory definitely still has weight today, though you can start to see instances where this role is sometimes being reversed i.e. the opinion leaders are influencing mass media agendas, political agendas and so on. Obviously this kind of thing is in its infancy at the moment, and mass media informing opinion leaders seems far more common (check out the Trafigura/Guardian banned from reporting parliament scandal' for a good example), (to be continued)...
