In this scenario, you get your only chance in the campaigns to play as the Koreans, and must defend your country from the Japanese invaders! You've got a Wonder to protect, and must find Admiral Yi Sun-Shin to gain access to the mighty Turtle Ship, so get to it!

As a history nerd myself I really enjoyed this video.
I found this channel because I was looking for some DE gameplay but I stayed for the commentary, especially your knowledge about East Asia is really nice. Keep up the good work brother

I like to think I'm fairly well-versed in history in general, but this scenario by far I can provide the most context on as it's my area of study. I do of course try to throw in the occasional historical nugget in all the other campaigns as well :P

Bomber target towers at first all the time. And destroy the wonder in a few.
I give up. Too many bombard vessels. Much more than on this video.

Edit: Also, I think where Yi is is not Seoul. It is Asan. It is where his Yi's residence was, and the sea entrance looks like it. It doesn't look like the scenario map reaches Seoul.
It's good to see an American who knows quite a lot about Korean history!
Just wanna add that before the Joseon dynasty, from Old Joseon up to the Three Kingdoms era(Goguryeo, Shilla and Baekjae), Korea was quite an independent area. Goguryeo was especially feared by the Han and Tang dynasties because of the iron-clad cavalry(think of cataphracts) and they actually repelled massive invasions, at least twice. I believe the influence from Chinese dynasties in Korea started in the Goryeo era when the Yuan dynasty paid Goryeo a visit lol
Joseon did not have a good track record of repelling invasions, that is very true. Admiral Yi was a hero(and I believe West Point cadets study him along with Horatio Nelson) but he got relegated twice because of a jealous king Seonjo and his officials
And yeah you are right- King Sejong and Admiral Yi are the two most respected and honored national heroes in South Korea!(Can't say the exact same about NK because, you know.)
I have heard of the Gaya confederacy but was that area considered to be an autonomous area just a port city?

Did they change the scenario? I played it today and had no chance to defend the wonder (Hard difficulty). Even when I send all my initial ships and even produce new ones, the wonder goes down, before I destroyed the first couple of attackers.
The solution for me was to abandon the initial base and build a new base further away from the coast.
I managed to protect it pretty easily for the whole game on hard difficulty. The hardest part is the start where you have to select all the ships from your base and attack move near the enemy cannon ships. It took me a couple of restarts but basically one of my fire ships that was at the front distracted all the enemy ships along the way leading to the wonder, and lead them away from the wonder towards the enemy base. After that you just need to kite the enemy cannon ships with your remaining ships. Also build a lot of towers near the wonder and along the coast near your docks and make sure you get all their upgrades.

I don't get it, you just destroyed their navy at the start, it felt like their navy was much bigger when i had to defend the wonder.
Same I think with updates the amount of cannon galleons on hard was increased a lot. I deafeated 10 elite canon galleons at the start.
@@drschwandi3687 Same here. Impossible. I've destroy all cannon galleons. After all Galleons are too hard to kill and I lost the first ground japanese attack. Toooooooo hard!!!!
he clicked to research heated shot in the first second of gameplay so that made the towers surrounding the wonder that much more effective
I don't understand why the Asian countries don't have full campaigns. Southeast Asia has DLC campaigns with the Rajas and India has its own stuff too but China, Korea, and Japan only get one off historical battles. Its strange considering all 3 are OG civs from the original game and conquerors expansion. Only Mongolia gets the full campaign treatment.
Yup, they should make some kind of Far East DLC with Japanese, Chinese and Korean campaigns.
i do not understand how you fight in the beginning with these ships. i lost all. oponent too much ships :/

It seems it's impossible to keep the wonder up in current version. The wonder gets destroyed before the boats even arrive there... Is anyone facing the same issue or is this random?
How the **** did you take care of the wonder in the beginning? My ships didn't stand a chance against the Japanese ships.

I think they've made it much harder. I also couldn't defend the wonder.
It's apparently random. He may have got lucky in this video. I've tried 10x and wonder is pretty much destroyed by the time the ships even destroy the first cannon bombers
I don't understand, i can't defeat the first attack on the wonder, too much canon galion and not enough corean navy for me. The initial navy attacking you seems less strong
I just let them destroy the default base and fall back to Admiral Yi's location and construct a base which is easier to defend.
Of course I am also literally playing the game for first time after 15 years
Edit: On moderate difficulty the tactics used in this video won't work. They just keep on sending ships continuously. It took a fleet of 20 galleons to destroy the initial attacking Japanese fleet.
How can I play Noryang point? I can't find it on the Defintivie version and only see 5 historical battles, one of which is Kurikara.

for dos pilas, only one of the two options seems to be bugged. so you should just switch sides to support the city that is attacking you (forgot the name)
Maybe the Chinese forces were living it up on Jeju Island?
Does it have to be on hard to unlock the achievement?
I’ve been learning Cantonese for the past year or so and man let me tell you that the traditional Chinese characters are a pain. I say this as a Mandarin or Putonghua speaker. Traditional characters are a pain.

It was originally called the East Sea. The South China Sea was originally called The Sea of Champa because Kingdom of Champa was once ruled parts of Vietnam before Viets invaded their kingdom and push them deep into the mekong delta.
Love Korean history, didn't know about their bureaucratic side. It makes sense why their society is a culturally focused superpower now.
