We had a cat drink a bunch of water out of the watering thing at the base of our tree and she ended up being pretty lethargic, vomiting, generally not having a good time. We switched to a fake tree after that.
I had no idea of this. My family and I are allergic to Christmas trees and go with fake ones most of the time, and if not, we have felt over the bottom of the tree. Does tis apply to dogs aswell?

I think this counts for most animals. You're not supposed to use pine or cedar bedding for small animals because it irritates their air ways. Millipedes shouldnt be given leaves or dirt from areas with pine or cedar. Those trees have toxins to avoid getting eaten by insects/ knawed by small animals, if even cats react badly I wouldn't let any animal near them (not ones that try to eat it at least)
To my knowledge the VAST majority of people don’t have real trees for Christmas trees. We got one for Christmas one year and it was a FKING MESS. Omg.. who would subject themselves to that? Pines EVERYWHERE

A friend of mine told me her neighbor killed many of his hamsters when they were little, threw them at the pavement or the wall things like that and his parents kept replacing them!? Kids shouldn’t be in charge or left alone with any animals. She said he’s in jail now for assault, not shocking

I always die a little inside when I see people saying their prey animals and their predator animals are friends. I don't even know what to say to get it through their skulls. Just, no. Stop it. I let my dog and my cat snuggle together all the time and I say they're buds, but that's just because I know their species don't eat each other.

I once saw a video about some one live feeding a CornSnake, and when the snake didn’t eat it the person started recording and saying their cuddling buddies, the mouse was crawling all over the snake.. it made me extremely angry, Especially as a Corn snake owner myself. I feed Blue Frozen/Thawed Mice and find that kind of content awful and unethical.
I completely agree with you that if one pet should be banned, it would be hamsters. I know sooo many people who had hamsters as kids that died in strange ways. I currently have my 13th hamster, and none of the ones I have had passed away for stupid reason. I lost 3 to genetic disorders, two to infections (tooth abcess and pneumonia), and the rest passed from age. It's not rocket science, just don't treat them as toys for petes sake! Also, I want to say thank you for your great content on gold fish :) You inspired me to adopt a pair of them, and they are an abolute joy! They will come swiming when I walk by them
hamsters are unfortunately victims of "small animals need small cages" and being coded as "pets for kids". They are slowly recovering with people realizing how much space and care they need, but i don't believe hamsters should be banned. My family always dose a lot of research when we get pets, and have had 8 hamsters so far! Started with two, then one had 8 babies (one was a stillborn the other died a day later, no the mom didn't kill the baby) and it's been a year and 8 months since then and we've only lost two, one to a medical condition and the other to old age, and I wouldn't recommend keeping all the babies (they take up so much space but we love them all) or as beginner pets, they are not beginners pets, at all!
Yeah, some of the ways hamsters have died have been straight up cruel and messed up, and I've seen some sick individuals claim it's "funny"... I was a part of a college medical research lab that used mice and the professors made sure we understood that even though they are lab mice they are still a life and deserve to live in humane conditions. I wasn't a part of that specific research so I couldn't tell you more as the mice had their own room so that they weren't overwhelmed by constant human traffic and so that the room was kept at a comfortable temperature for them
One of the funniest elf on the self things i remember from when i was younger, was when my elf was fishing for golf fish (snack gold fish) i remember when i saw that, i laughed. People should not be using real fish for it
I have no idea what the deal with cats and Christmas trees are, but the two I've had were definitely obsessed with them. I can only assume it's the texture and ability for them to get up high as well as the ornaments being perfect little dangling toys. One my family had when I was around 5 or 6 loved climbing the tree. He was a very young cat so he thankfully didn't weigh enough to make it fall or anything. My current cat doesn't climb the tree but it has shiny tinsel all over it so we've had to tuck it away because she likes to chew on and pick at the tinsel and I don't want her to accidentally swallow it.

I wish I would’ve known about channels like these when I was little, I didn't have the best role model when it came to treating my pet fish, people and pet stores should make more of an effort to teach kids proper animal care and stop stereotyping them like living toys. I know I know, I work for a box store being Petco. But it is smaller and the staff is really passionate about their departments. I do grooming. Our aquatics manger is amazing. Our person that helps with reptiles is very knowledgeable. Almost all of our bad reviews come around Christmas time when our associates won't sell an animal to a person where the animal will go into a horrid situation. We had someone leave a 1 star review because they were trying to buy their 4 year old a betta and was angry someone told him he needed to get some water conditioner and something bigger than the plastic container it came with if they didn't have something set up back home.

I had a gold fish named Jaws. He lived so long. Keep in mind that was in the charcoal filter time. We would have to take out half the water put him in it. Set jugs of water out for 48 to 72hrs. Rinse the rocks add them back in. Add the water from the jugs, float the bowl with the fish in it. Then finally put him and rest of water in. Omg it was a pain but my fish to be old like all my pets.

I think cats getting in trees is a combo of being energetic, untrained, and lack of other climbing options. My oldest cat loves to sit under the Christmas tree when it's lit because she likes the warmth they give off. Definitely considering getting her a heating lamp.
People don't understand how prey animals are. When faced with a cat, they will get complacent and calm. It looks like content behavior but it's a stress mechanism. All prey animals will freeze in the presence of a predator. That hamster is frozen and terrified around those cats. And cats love to play with prey. Their prey drive comes into play with toys, where they will throw and catch a toy, or chase it down and bat it around. They will do the same with a hamster. Play is used to hone hunting skills, in kittens as well as cats. That hamster is a toy and a prey item to a cat no matter how long they've lived in the same space. It only takes a wrong move, for the hamster to start running off, to trigger that prey drive and cause the cat to launch claws and teeth first into that animal. And of course, a cat doesn't catch to kill. That hamster will stay alive for a long time.
That was probably someone that just asked their Mom how to clean a fish tank. We had to set out jugs on water overnight, put half of the water in bowls with the fish. We also had put the rocks and decor in a strainer to clean them. Change the carcoal in the filter. It took all day but over fish lived a very long time.
The fish you were confused about at 3:27 is a golden panchax and I don't suggest having them in with guppies as I made that mistake once and the panchax ate the guppies.. because their mouths are so large!

I saved a goldfish from a fair once. I don't know where he originally came from and he wasn't the healthiest of my gang, but he was a hell of a fighter. I kept him for four years before he passed. The fish surviving three or four days only is straight up abuse in my eyes
I had two hamsters. Both died of old age. We also owned cats at the same time- but we made sure the hamster was always safe, watered, fed, and cage was clean.
My cat is so obsessed with Christmas trees that we had to replace it with a fake tabletop tree on top of a tall box that has no surroundings within her jump range. And beware standing too close to it for too long or she will leap onto your back in an attempt to eat the tree. And I mean literally eat it. She doesn’t attempt to knock it over at least, but will stare at it intently, wracking her brain for a way to reach it.
I once had a cat named Doc and he was absolutely obsessed with the Christmas tree the first year we put it up when we had him we found him one night playing in the middle of the presents under the tree with a bunch of ornaments on the floor my sisters ended up taking a picture and for a while I had it as the lock screen of my phone

I don't have or have ever had cats but I do have dogs and my little terrier mix thinks the tree skirt is a blanket. She loves blankets or anything that is like one to her and will always lay on or mostly bury herself under them. Needless to say even though we got a new tree and tree skirt this year, it's no different. She even tried to push presents out of the way so she could try getting in there properly.
My cat loved to lay under the Christmas tree whenever it was out, we had to have one round ornament on the bottom of the tree. So my cat mama could lay under it and watch it spin and take a nap. Her absolute favorite spot. We did at some point stop putting up the Christmas tree since the mess it would leave was annoying. So my mom put up Christmas lights in a shape or a tree on the wall. And mama would sometimes lay next to the wall and she loved it. Well my mom ended up feeling bad and decided to get mama round ornament, and that ornament has been in her cupboard where she eats and hangs out/sleep in. Absolutely loves it, almost never saw her again after that.

our beagle growing up took down a tree so ornaments kept off the bottom and dad put some eyehooks screwed them in the wall so it was fastend to the wall never fell again

If I ever work for the Congress, I would make it illegal for a person to get a pet without a pet license. And here is how I think it should work, first. You have to pass a type of test to prove that you're allowed to have a pet, and if you fail it. You don't get the license and you're not allowed to have a pet until you retake it. I would enforce this law in every pet store, even Petsmart and Petco, if they don't abide to this law. They would get permanently shut down until they integrate this law. My hamster escaped her cage while I was cleaning it and two months later I found her dead under my couch.... I had a smaller cage that I would put her in while I cleaned her amazing big cage.I don't know how she got out though. The cage was locked and none of my family was home. Lemme tell you, I *RIPPED* apart my house trying to look for her but I gave up after about 2 weeks. Poor little sunstone... She was fairly old too! About 2 years old Maybe older....
i can atest to your cats not being crazy with chirstmas trees! my grandma got 7 outdoor cats and out of all of them only 1 is obssesed with the tree, but boy does she make it look like it's all the 7. so it's very possible that none of your cats have the chirstmas spirit in them lol
My parents' Christmas tree doesn't have any lights or tinsel because my sister's kitten eats the lights and MY cat eats the tinsel. My Sammy loves sitting in the tree, but since we got him a taller cat tree he's been on his new perch and has been so good that he's allowed to sleep in the same room as the tree now (there is nothing he can easily eat on it) We don't have any presents underneath it because he'd absolutely shred the paper, and boxes aren't even an option because he's a menace and loves to tear apart cardboard (Sookie, my sister's kitten, loves plastic and will eat it so presents just aren't something we can do until Christmas Eve)
Honestly, I can't blame you for wanting to do these videos less. They're honestly hard to watch and it amazes me how some people are oblivious to the harm they're causing, while some know exactly what they're doing to upset others. With the Christmas trees it might not be the tree itself but the decorations on the tree. My senior cat loves to chew on crinoline and stuff like it. A lot of people put materials like cats like to chew on in those trees or the cat wants to play with the ordiments. My cat only goes after the tree if it has something that he wants.
I heard of a trend where women put fish in their collarbones to show how skinny they are. Not only is this horrible for the fish, it can cause people to starve themselves just to put a poor scared fish on their skin.

Cats can get hurt from eating tinsel, breaking ornaments or stuck in the lights. You should see how they react and get rid of the tree if it will hurt them. Our cat was eating our plastic tree so no more tree
As someone who owns hamsters, that hamster "enclosure" is no where near even quarter the size of what is a suitable sized enclosure should be. It should be at least 800sq inches! As well, unbroken flat floorspace is best, and multilayer floors are a no no because hamsters can't see very well to begin with and they are highly likely to fall off platforms. Paper bedding only, wooden substrates (such as wooden shavings) are bad for them because of the present oils - it affects their respiratory systems. I say paper bedding only, you can have other substrates too to keep them entertained with different substrates, but they have to be safe for them! Coco-fibre is good, I dampen my hamsters one slightly so it's not dusty and can't affect respiratory. Rocks for keeping nails at bay, spaghnum moss between wooden platforms to stop their toes (and it adds a nice look as well and it's more textures for hammy!)... At least a 21cm wheel for roborovskis and 30cm minimum for winter whites, campbells, chinese and syrians. Do not use a saucer type wheel for any of those (has to be an upright wheel) besides a roborovski. Although robos can have flying saucer wheels, please also include upright wheels for them. Robos also have to have at least half of their enclosure as sand as that's more natual for them.
I think that the fish in the bathtubs are "just" going to go down the drain sooner or later, because I don't think any of those families have bought a fishtank or if they have it'll not be big enough for the amound of fish they have bought for this "Elf on the Shelf" trend

My current cat doesn't climb the tree but it has shiny tinsel all over it so we've had to tuck it away because she likes to chew on and pick at the tinsel and I don't want her to accidentally swallow it.

I wish I would’ve known about channels like these when I was little, I didn't have the best role model when it came to treating my pet fish, people and pet stores should make more of an effort to teach kids proper animal care and stop stereotyping them like living toys. Now that I’m older I've learned how to properly care for pets and I would do anything to make their lives better

I know I know, I work for a box store being Petco. But it is smaller and the staff is really passionate about their departments. I do grooming. Our aquatics manger is amazing. Our person that helps with reptiles is very knowledgeable.
Almost all of our bad reviews come around Christmas time when our associates won't sell an animal to a person where the animal will go into a horrid situation. We had someone leave a 1 star review because they were trying to buy their 4 year old a betta and was angry someone told him he needed to get some water conditioner and something bigger than the plastic container it came with if they didn't have something set up back home.

I had a gold fish named Jaws. He lived so long. Keep in mind that was in the charcoal filter time. We would have to take out half the water put him in it. Set jugs of water out for 48 to 72hrs. Rinse the rocks add them back in. Add the water from the jugs, float the bowl with the fish in it. Then finally put him and rest of water in. Omg it was a pain but my fish to be old like all my pets.

People don't understand how prey animals are. When faced with a cat, they will get complacent and calm. It looks like content behavior but it's a stress mechanism. All prey animals will freeze in the presence of a predator. That hamster is frozen and terrified around those cats. And cats love to play with prey. Their prey drive comes into play with toys, where they will throw and catch a toy, or chase it down and bat it around. They will do the same with a hamster. Play is used to hone hunting skills, in kittens as well as cats. That hamster is a toy and a prey item to a cat no matter how long they've lived in the same space. It only takes a wrong move, for the hamster to start running off, to trigger that prey drive and cause the cat to launch claws and teeth first into that animal. And of course, a cat doesn't catch to kill. That hamster will stay alive for a long time.

That was probably someone that just asked their Mom how to clean a fish tank. We had to set out jugs on water overnight, put half of the water in bowls with the fish. We also had put the rocks and decor in a strainer to clean them. Change the carcoal in the filter. It took all day but over fish lived a very long time.
The fish you were confused about at 3:27 is a golden panchax and I don't suggest having them in with guppies as I made that mistake once and the panchax ate the guppies.. because their mouths are so large!

I saved a goldfish from a fair once. I don't know where he originally came from and he wasn't the healthiest of my gang, but he was a hell of a fighter. I kept him for four years before he passed. The fish surviving three or four days only is straight up abuse in my eyes

I had two hamsters. Both died of old age. We also owned cats at the same time- but we made sure the hamster was always safe, watered, fed, and cage was clean.

My cat is so obsessed with Christmas trees that we had to replace it with a fake tabletop tree on top of a tall box that has no surroundings within her jump range. And beware standing too close to it for too long or she will leap onto your back in an attempt to eat the tree. And I mean literally eat it. She doesn’t attempt to knock it over at least, but will stare at it intently, wracking her brain for a way to reach it.

I don't have or have ever had cats but I do have dogs and my little terrier mix thinks the tree skirt is a blanket. She loves blankets or anything that is like one to her and will always lay on or mostly bury herself under them. Needless to say even though we got a new tree and tree skirt this year, it's no different. She even tried to push presents out of the way so she could try getting in there properly.

My cat loved to lay under the Christmas tree whenever it was out, we had to have one round ornament on the bottom of the tree. So my cat mama could lay under it and watch it spin and take a nap. Her absolute favorite spot.
We did at some point stop putting up the Christmas tree since the mess it would leave was annoying. So my mom put up Christmas lights in a shape or a tree on the wall. And mama would sometimes lay next to the wall and she loved it. Well my mom ended up feeling bad and decided to get mama round ornament, and that ornament has been in her cupboard where she eats and hangs out/sleep in. Absolutely loves it, almost never saw her again after that.

Cats see sparkly shiny things and it's interesting to them. Ours haven't knocked ours down but they have been in it. Our oldest even got stuck, and in the process of trying to help her I accidentally hurt her. I didn't know she was stuck.

my grandma keeps 7 outdoor cats and one of them is an absolute menace during christmas time. we dont light up our tree anyways, we just put up a fake tree and some generations old plastic ornaments, basically the most cat-oriented tree ever. in the morning it's a bingo of wether or not the tree was knocked down by her climbing it during the night lol
If I ever work for the Congress, I would make it illegal for a person to get a pet without a pet license.
And here is how I think it should work, first. You have to pass a type of test to prove that you're allowed to have a pet, and if you fail it. You don't get the license and you're not allowed to have a pet until you retake it.
I would enforce this law in every pet store, even Petsmart and Petco, if they don't abide to this law. They would get permanently shut down until they integrate this law.
I am tired of mindless people just casually using animals as toys and I hope maybe one day. I'll be the better PETA.

I have 2 cats and a mini tree both try and med with it, one bark from my lab and the cats back off they are slowly learning not to touch.
My hamster escaped her cage while I was cleaning it and two months later I found her dead under my couch.... I had a smaller cage that I would put her in while I cleaned her amazing big cage.I don't know how she got out though. The cage was locked and none of my family was home. Lemme tell you, I *RIPPED* apart my house trying to look for her but I gave up after about 2 weeks. Poor little sunstone... She was fairly old too! About 2 years old Maybe older....

My parents' Christmas tree doesn't have any lights or tinsel because my sister's kitten eats the lights and MY cat eats the tinsel. My Sammy loves sitting in the tree, but since we got him a taller cat tree he's been on his new perch and has been so good that he's allowed to sleep in the same room as the tree now (there is nothing he can easily eat on it)
We don't have any presents underneath it because he'd absolutely shred the paper, and boxes aren't even an option because he's a menace and loves to tear apart cardboard (Sookie, my sister's kitten, loves plastic and will eat it so presents just aren't something we can do until Christmas Eve)

Honestly, I can't blame you for wanting to do these videos less. They're honestly hard to watch and it amazes me how some people are oblivious to the harm they're causing, while some know exactly what they're doing to upset others. Then there are the people who comment and act as though this unseemly and cruel treatment of animals is okay. Folk out there really need to be better educated when it comes to caring for their pets. They're not toys or objects to earn views and money off of, they're sentient beings - they FEEL like we do, have their own wants and desires as we do. They can feel pain and stress. They have likes and dislikes. They deserve to have the same amount of respect that YOU expect from others.

With the Christmas trees it might not be the tree itself but the decorations on the tree. My senior cat loves to chew on crinoline and stuff like it. A lot of people put materials like cats like to chew on in those trees or the cat wants to play with the ordiments. My cat only goes after the tree if it has something that he wants.

Cats can get hurt from eating tinsel, breaking ornaments or stuck in the lights. You should see how they react and get rid of the tree if it will hurt them. Our cat was eating our plastic tree so no more tree

As someone who owns hamsters, that hamster "enclosure" is no where near even quarter the size of what is a suitable sized enclosure should be. It should be at least 800sq inches! As well, unbroken flat floorspace is best, and multilayer floors are a no no because hamsters can't see very well to begin with and they are highly likely to fall off platforms. Paper bedding only, wooden substrates (such as wooden shavings) are bad for them because of the present oils - it affects their respiratory systems. I say paper bedding only, you can have other substrates too to keep them entertained with different substrates, but they have to be safe for them! Coco-fibre is good, I dampen my hamsters one slightly so it's not dusty and can't affect respiratory. Rocks for keeping nails at bay, spaghnum moss between wooden platforms to stop their toes (and it adds a nice look as well and it's more textures for hammy!)... At least a 21cm wheel for roborovskis and 30cm minimum for winter whites, campbells, chinese and syrians. Do not use a saucer type wheel for any of those (has to be an upright wheel) besides a roborovski. Although robos can have flying saucer wheels, please also include upright wheels for them. Robos also have to have at least half of their enclosure as sand as that's more natual for them.
