I wish I had known about this bit of video a week ago. I have been trying to upgrade my firmware to V1.3 and was about to give up when my buddy called and walked me through the steps you just showed me. I guess I have always been a "Day late, and a Dollar short" as we say here in Prescott, AZ. Thanks and 73
Very clear and right to the point. I probably would have been stuck at "press and hold YES" for agreeing to the firmware update, because just pressing it quickly does nothing. Thanks!
Excellent instructional video! My only glitch was 'tapping' and not 'pressing' the 'YES' screen touch button down long enough for the radio to recognize my choice. The author in this video comments correctly about pressing the 'button' long enough for the rig to respond. Thanks!
I bought my 9700 last month and was really surprised to find the firmware version was 1.06! I am a new operator based in the UK and your video was invaluable in guiding me through the process - many thanks! :)
Thanks, I just got mine up tonight and yours is one of the first videos I saw. I had a problem with my SD card reader with the type of (new) card (SDHC) so I found a old 256MB card and used that. Update worked fine. Put the new card back in the rig and all is good. Now on to the how to use it lol.
Brilliant, Thank You recieved my 9700 this morning Tuesday 18th Nov so far drivers loaded and now software updated, next Rep[eater list. 73 Phil G0BVD UK
I purchased my IC-9700 in June of 2021 but waited till now to unbox it and set it up. I needed to upgrade the firmware and your step by step video was perfect. I followed your instructions, pausing between steps, and it went perfectly. Thank you and 73. de N4VZL
Would have been more helpful a week ago, lol. I had to discover this myself the hard way, especially the hold down for installing the firmware. Well done, enjoy the videos. Can you do a beginners basic D-Star primer please.
Michael Ross Your probably right, it’s just the “ham” in me wanting to explore new modes. Once mastered, I’ll never use it. I am a 40 year weak signal veteran, so D-Star and FM are classed as local chat modes.
Am asking this question for a friend who has the IC-9700 and trying to help him do a firmware update. The update file that we have is v1.23. We've follow all the steps in your video. After getting to the second yellow screen and holding the button the file starts to write. Then it finish it reads back illegal data. The file was download from the ICOM website.
Hi JetJunkie. Can you try a lower version firmware, the very next one after what you have? If that is v1.23 then try reformatting the card and starting from scratch.
Quick question if you see this; the firmware update completed exactly as shown, and the Info now displays 1.21 which is the latest. For some reason I have no receive audio. If I use any of the menus then I get a beep, so the speaker works, but no receive audio. After the radio rebooted I did a full factory reset, but I can't see what that would be responsible. Any ideas?
@@HamRadioDX Hi! It was operator error! Volume and squelch are on the the same dial; I had accidentally turned the squelch on! 🤣 A good learning point 👍 73s
Good day Hayden, I finally got around to updating mine to 1.32 last night...your How-To worked Great!! Also, I decoded a guy on 2m FT8 2 nights ago during a 2m band opening and I wonder if you've heard these guys as it came from QC48: 013400 -23 2.2 270~ GD3MCT/R 8L1BDW/R QC48. Im in Alabama so if this is real, its pretty incredible! You familiar with either of these calls?? 73 de Danny NF4J

Got mine last Monday, absolutely love it so far. Health to enjoy yours, mate.
All you need to know about D-Star is that its long obsolete and best ignored.

Did it erase any saved settings? Or memory?

Hi John, did you manage to fix this on your radio? Perhaps a factory reset?
