Hi Haden ' good video , I have been using my 9700 with q65 with Rex but some thing is wrong today with strange noises from speaker not the usual warble , all setting with Transceiver and WSJTX appear to be ok , but i am not decoding Bryan VK7KWB
thanks for the video, having used the 7300 i did get to a point of wsjtx working with the 9700 but this was a good way to validate my settings, thanks again ! 73 2E0FWE
Hi Hayden, I'm just getting started with FT8 on my IC-9700. I noticed the frequencies suggested by WSJT-X for 2m, 70, 23cm are different to what the WIA band plan indicates. For example, the band plan indicates 144.320 rather than 144.120 on 2m. What has been your experience with international DX QSOs with FT8 on those bands? Do you use the WSJT-X frequencies or the band plan frequencies? 73's Daryl VK3MCB
G'day Daryl, I stick with the bandplan, so 144.320 MHz. International DX on 2, 70 and 23 is really by appointment anyway to NZ. I don't think I have ever worked FT8 across to ZL? Anyway, if you head into the software, settings > frequencies and right click on a frequency I think you can add a new one so that it appears in the WSJT-X drop down list. Hope that helps! 73 Hayden
Helpful - thanks... but... even though all settings agree, and test-cat and test-ptt operate normally, I get no audio in from WSJT and no power out from the radio, on transmit (tune, or enable). Selecting a different mode (RTTY) I can confirm the radio is putting out, but not in USB-D. I am used to using WSJT thru HRD on my 7300, which works fine. Scratching my head - going to methodically compare data settings between 7300 and 9700, hoping any difference would be a clue .... de K1VI
@HamRadioDX not 100percent sure yet just a beginner ill most likely start with repeaters there is one here eventually cover everything that radio is capable of
@@waltonwader6449 you are wrong - read the manual that comes with the radio.. Read the reviews - the rig does not splatter at all at 50% or more ALC showing..

Good instructions, easy to understand and well made. Thanks
Thanks mate 👍
this video was about 50% helpful.
I've never done data so my questions are what software and what cables?

Thank you, sorted first time following your video
Glad it helped
Thank you, really comprehensive and detailed enough to get my 9700 working on digital. 73's Peter VK3BZF

Informative as usual
Thanks Paul!

Tnx again. 🤔😉👍
You’re welcome
Thanks for a great video..my 9700 is all set up..

One main imprtant thing is to set WSJT-X in radio setup to "fake it"
I want the IC-9700 for receiving digital sats. Is it true the 9700 does not have enough bandwidth to receive 9600 baud signals? Thanks, CE4JDM

This video is outdated. Firmware upgrades to IC-9700 changed the menus completely to the point where you cannot follow this video and have it work.

@@HamRadioDX Ok, thanks Hayden, that makes sense. Will give that a try.

Comparing radios not so easy ... the menu structures are more different than I expected.
Are the USB audio codecs selected in WSJT-X as the output and input sound devices? Do you have USB set as the connector in the radio?
Gday mate looking into getting one of these would you still rate this radio as good 4yrs later?
Yep 100% great radio!
@@HamRadioDX what antenna would you recommend im based in central highlands of tassie?
@@danielmcarthur6200What are you interested in? Just working repeaters, weak signal SSB? Satellites?

@@danielmcarthur6200 The 9700 is probably massive overkill for just repeaters! You can probably find a much cheaper radio for that.
Split should be Rig or Fake it to avoid TX audio harmonics
TX ALC should be set to between 30% to 50% as per the rig's manual
No, not on digital modes. The video is correct. ALC should not activate. This is as per the WSJT set up instructions from Joe Taylor.

Dear , at 2:14 "connectors" we can see 2/4 , on mine I have only 3/3 options ... can you explain that ? thank you
Hi, what version of firmware are you running on your radio?
@@HamRadioDX Thanks, now updated
@@HamRadioDX Thank you its done
Any idea if you can do dual band WSJT simultaneously with the 9700?
I don't think you can as the 9700 only really has one set of COM ports for use. They can't be used by two lots of the application at the same time.
Can you use this rig on Ubuntu wsjtx? 9700 doesn’t appear to be on the list
Double check you have the latest version of WSJT-X compiled
Yep... might be the problem. The current version doesn’t have an easy install. Down the Linux rabbit hole I go

Great video.
I have a IC 7300 so it was quite similar with a few differences. Thanks
Smashed the like and monitor fell over... dam it.
🤣
Thanks, guys...just what I needed!
Thanks, glad it helped
Thanks Hayden. Just got mine yesterday and this video made it super easy to get on the air with wsjt-x
Glad it helped!
