- Epic Help shows you how to replace the starter motor on a 2015 Honda CR-V. This video will also help you change the starter on a 2016 Honda CR-V vehicle. When you do this starter motor replacement make sure you have the tools and parts needed before you start.
Here's where I bought this starter: www.ebay.com/itm/175378398042

The starter bolts are 14 mm
The ground wire is 12mm
Thanks for the vid
I own an automotive shop. Thanks for the video. Even using a hoist, this job is a pain. I'm not sure I wouldn't drop the exhaust and go that way next time. I live in Oregon and we don't have the rust issues. It's doable through the right wheel well and that's how I did it. The biggest challenge for me was getting the battery cable to the starter back on. Even taking off all the clips, the cable is so stiff and with little room to work, it sucks. I would make sure to take off solenoid wire first when removing and installing last when installing. It's that stupid boot over the positive lug that makes it so hard. Anyway, thanks for the video. It helped.
I agree the boot over the lug was difficult. Thanks for your comments.
I am replacing one on an AWD and found it very difficult with very little room. I had to remove the passenger's axle to gain the space needed for removal. Made it much easier.
This is the best video ever. Now i am going to replace my CRV starter myself.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
How it go?
@@Xhrisnineteen went very well thankd
@@sanhsands6132 nice asking because a friend is asking me to change her starter I’ve worked on my car before dodge and trying to save her a few bucks was it hard or was it piece of cake ?
Just did this job and this video was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a millions . For yours video. You guy are awesome. Save me alot of money

Thanks man , last 3 years i worked on chevys now im not at a chevy dealer having to learn , evry cars aches and pains. Buy i got it in and out.
Glad this video helped you. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Super video informativo
Thank you!
Great video, 2012 has the same location ? And how many bolts are there ? Again thanks
Don't know about the 2012 model. Thanks for watching!
I assume this crv is fwd not awd where you cannot take starter thru fender liner but you have to go from underneath (removing exhaust pipe is recommend to stay SANE)
Yes, it's FWD. Thanks for watching!
I did it on my AWD by guiding it out the side. Not easy at all though!
My car won't start anymore, it would start but I had to move the key around until it started. Would this fix my problem? I've read that the start could be the main problem
It's very possible the starter needs replaced. Without more information it's not easy to determine if this is the problem. Other possible issues that come to mind are bad ignition switch or loose connections somewhere between the battery and starter.
@@EpicHelp thanks
Is the CRV the same design as a HRV? I have a 2016 HRV and need to replace the starter.
I don't know, since I've never worked on a HRV before. If you find out it's the same design please let us know.
Nice video! How difficult is the job?
It's not very difficult if you have an extra set of hands to hold the starter in place when putting the mounting bolts back in. 😃
@@EpicHelp awesome! What do you think about those Chinese made starters on Amazon?
My experience with cheap parts from Amazon is not good. Whether it's a starter or a sensor, they just don't last long for me. If I'm looking for a cheap part sometimes I go to the junkyard and pull one. You can also check eBay, that's where I bought this starter. Check the description for the eBay link.
That is very difficult, 🤣😅
Great job! Congrats 👏👏👏
Is what i go do this Sunday on my friend car.
Starter is f**** up
Is this the same for 2017?
No, just 2015 and 2016.
@@EpicHelp it is the same job on a 2.4 2017 crv the part is slightly different but the job is the same. even on a 4wd crv i snuck the starter out next to the front cv axle
Thanks for letting me know it is basically the same job. Glad this video helped you.
Appreciate the video but that damn tab that the wiring harness slips on to absolutely will not let go on mine. Hearing you say "you just pull it away from the starter" has been a sick joke.
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with the wire removal. I hope you were able to finish the job.
@@EpicHelp of course. Tin snips removed the tab. Thank you again for taking the time to make the video
Honda is becoming more like GM. Starting to do ALOT of stupid shit
hi, question. is there a way to test if the starter is going bad. with the starter still in the car....I have the same car and I think it's going bad but I wanna be sure.
Without taking the starter out and having it tested, here's some things you can look for:
1) Clicking noise when you try to turn the key and it does not start.
2) Your dash lights come on when you turn the key, but it does not start.
3) It takes several tries before the vehicle starts.
These are general methods and not perfect. Hope this helps you.
I had it not start on about 1 in 20 or 30 starts so it was extremely hard to figure out even for a tech. They could only replicate it once. I still had it changed though since it's a telltale sign and all other components are fine (battery/alternator). For some reason, these model years seem to have bum starters
