    Can't imagine life without a dane. My current boy turns 9 in November and I have been so blessed to have had him for so long. They are definitely a heart break breed but so worth the joy, love, laughs, and hair.

    5 reasons:
    1. Beautiful- quintessential dogs
    2. Protective - bark, posture and size
    3 Affectionate. Always with you
    And they are so big they're like another person
    4. Goofs. Their size and long legs plus surprisingly gentle souls, they are just kinda goofy.
    5. Attention. They attract attention and with that, you meet SO many people. I've never gone on a walk without someone commenting on Juno or actually stopping to have a conversation. They change your life in big big ways.

    I have a Great Dane and her name is Xena and she is 6 years old. Beautiful brown eyes like me , born in the month of September like me , and she has black fur. And we both love our relaxing piano music . the piano music calms us down to the point of falling asleep. I really love my dog.

    I've had a Great Dane for 3 1/2 years as a service animal. He did college with me with no problems. He is amazing! I will never be without one of these wonderful companions again if it is in my power!

    • @zacherynagy8445
      @zacherynagy8445 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you get your Dane professionally trained for service dog? I'm aiming towards basically the same thing I just don't know if I want them to be service dogs or therapy dogs even though they are kinda close

    • @SgtSplatts
      @SgtSplatts ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zacherynagy8445 Unfortunately, therapy dogs are not categorized as protected by the 1993 Americans with Disabilities Act, only Service Animals. THERE IS NOBODY WHO DETERMINES THIS BUT YOU. If the animal provides a SERVICE for you, and can do so IN PUBLIC, it is a service animal by default. Mine is from an agency, which I recommend, but you can train your own if you like. You CAN get them ADA certified, but anyone telling you you have to do this is a liar or doesn't know what they are talking about. A farmer who brings a dog to market is by DEFAULT bringing their service animal. If he says "it's a therapy animal", they lose the right to public access. It must be a service animal in your eyes, and within the dog, to be legit. I hope that answers your question.

    • @zacherynagy8445
      @zacherynagy8445 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SgtSplatts thank you for the clarification. So if I trained them myself what would getting them ADA certified look like?

    • @SgtSplatts
      @SgtSplatts ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, the only questions people can legally demand of you (such as a hotel or store owner) are: "Is that a service animal" and "What are they trained to do". If they demand paperwork, show them the Americans with Disabilities Act then tell them to educate themselves before they aggravate another customer. I show my card, sometimes to avoid conflict, but only because my agency gives us one. A "card" or "paperwork" is not required, nor does it prove anything, as there is no (currently) authoritatively legitimizing agency that provides such paperwork over any other.

    • @zacherynagy8445
      @zacherynagy8445 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 10 months old blue and she is being trained, by me, as my service/emotional support animal. She is perfect because she senses when I am a bit stressed (social anxiety disorder) and offers me hugs and distraction (without training). I really do recommend a Dane if someone can handle them well. I do have a second, Labradane, dog who helps with the exercise (play) aspect. Really wonderful and loving pets.

    • @grammyd8361
      @grammyd8361 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Read the Law for Service dogs. A companion dog is only recognized as a Pet, which does not carry the legal protection or benefits of the law.
      The dogs that are legal, have to pass a test for extra training abilities. You can train the dog yourself but has to have all the trained components as a working dog, not considered a pet.
      You also need a physicians prescription to have a dog. If your dog does not comply with the regulations, you cannot insure him, fly in a aircraft, allowed in stores and god forbid should he get into a fight and injure a person or animal, he will be destroyed and you will have broken the law and have to pay back restitution. So after you are through training him, I would suggest you go to a professional support dog to certify he IS trained as a Support Dog. This will protect the both of you legally. Good luck with your support dog and God bless!

    On # 5, you stated that they bond very closly with their family members.
    We have an opportunity to get a 3-year old purebred European Great Dane. The owner is looking to rehouse him since she has three small children. They have had him since he was 8 weeks old.
    We currently have no children (I am 60 and my wife is 70) and no additional pets.
    Would he do well with us? How well will he "bond" with a new family?
    Best

    Please make a video on the best trained for a purpose, Support/assistance dogs in the German Family of dogs. I need to get a young dog to help me with physical support and balance, PTSD, and have a bad back. He also would have to be strong enough to assist me out of a chair and I am 68 yrs old and live by myself, personal protection dog. What should I choose? I'm not a first owner of these types of dogs. Only familiar with Queensland Blue Healers, Doberman and German Shepherds, which I have had all my life. Danes are too big and like GSD's, shed too much. Am looking at a euro bred Boxer atm, I just can't decide. I'm 5'11" and 150 lbs and need more than a companion dog, who in the USA are considered just pets and not legally able to frequent businesses, fly on board a aircraft, they are not considered as legally licensed, Trained Service Dogs. Thank you!
