People like you are the reason Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers bite more people then any dog in the world. Just because a dog is smart and easily trainable, doesn't mean it's born trained. And Great Danes are not big cats! They're naturally gentle, but need to be trained. And most dogs cannot crush a grown-ass wild boar's throat. Also, most dogs aren't big enough and/or strong enough to hold a wild boar still. Yes, Great Danes were bred to kill boars, but unfortunately, there's very few hunting lines left. Most Danes just physically can't hunt boars. I could go so much more in-depth on each subject you mentioned, but I've learned the hard way that arguing with fools is a waste of time.
I’ve had many, many (15+) Great Danes & they’re VERY adaptable. They sleep 18 hrs/day. My Bentley just turned 10 last wk. Be careful on the protein, too much is not good for Danes. 18% or less.
Tiara Sutton this may be too late, but feeding a raw food diet is the best food you can provide. It will support the immune system and extend his life considerably. Same goes with adult dogs, raw food is the best. It’s never too late to switch.

Father was the Dane, mom was the Beagle. Imagine a dog about 130 lbs, with a Beagle tail, webbed feet and the rest Great Dane. One of the best dogs we ever had the pleasure to share life with. We had to put him down at age 15, cancer and his hip would give out. Cried many tears...Thank you sharing with us, it enjoyed you and Cinnamon very much this day! Ciao Bella!

I have students of all ages coming at all times and thought it would be great for them to have interaction too. I suppose two potential problems. Try Kosipet on Ebay UK for XL dog beds. The foam pads are soft but firm enough you can't feel a hard floor underneath. This is 6 months after I brought 2 for 3 dogs to share (weighing 68kg, 55kg and 33kg). And there are almost to cheap. the quality is great. I ordered 1 first to check the quality because of the cheap price. Ordered 2nd one the minute the 1st one arrived. Came with spare covers and waterproof lining. ( the head off the mattress thing could just be him regulating his body heat?).
I've had several great Danes. I'm not aware of cherry eye. Is that primarily in Euro dogs or is that something I've just missed along the way? Excellent video.
I adopted a four year old Pug from Humane Society here in the U.S. about five years ago. They performed Cherry Eye surgery just prior to my acquiring him. It is the removal of the inner, lower eyelids. The only real concern with the process is he does not have watery eyes, so I've have to gently wipe his eyes clean of goop a few times a day or else it will build up. Not a big deal at all, certainly not a deal breaker whatsoever.

Prepare for the puppy zoomies! My boy can make a full lap around my house (across the bed and couch included) in about 12 gaits. He is only 7 months!! He is happy and can access everything at this point!! I think living small with a Dane causes a bit more curiosity as they're simply puppies at eye level with the counter, etx Any advice I would offer? Up! Anything you do not want played with, drooled on or eaten goes way up! :D

Ive feed them only raw chicken and rabbit with raw bone included and my Danes have lived for 14 plus years with zero health issues. To avoid bloat just nevet give them any carbohydrates. You are a beautiful person and a wonderful great dane parent. The reason your dog has eye issues is only because youre giving him carbohydrates. Feed only meats and raw bones zero pet food or oats.

I have two great Danes.. Both females.... One is a merle and the other is black. The black one has her ears done... They were done when I adopted her at 3... I am always amazed at the people who come up to me and tell me I should be ashamed of doing that to her. I just say I didn't do it I adopted her that way. One thing I have to say is you have to take extra steps on everything when you have Danes…. Something simple like a road trip requires planning....

We had the opportunity to enjoy the company of our 7 Great Danes , we love them all but there is one of them that came from Russia thick bones, Irbis from Valentina Lukyanova and he last with us 15 years we fed our dogs with good fish and vegetables, never allowed them to run like a horse on the beach for their very first year to avoid stress in their joints, they Love music and they like to join you if you sing to them, by the way they get along very well with our Cane Corsos as long as they get neutered. Never ever give them any sweets, unless natural fruit.
