Sydney's MOST UNIQUE New Skatepark!

- Sydney is blessed with another brand new, amazing skatepark that is super unique compared to any other in Sydney and is quickly becoming one of my favourites!
This is Old's Park Skatepark in Penshurst and is a massive upgrade from the 'skatepark' that had previously been at this location.

What do you guys think of the unique design of this park?
Hi Leon, nice meeting you that day. I agree with pretty much everything you said, I'm keen to get back there but after the crowds settle down a bit. I didn't even see that skate repair that day, I agree that there should be more around.

I Skated the “old” Ramps decades back when the Ramp on the right had a massive Vert section above the transition that was taken down. It was huge. The Vert doubled the size of the Ramp. Not many of us back then could Skate it. It was bad news for those not up to it! I came from a background Skating big Ramps at home, the old Pymble Pool, etc back in the ‘70’s & ‘80’s. So a big Vert Ramp was easy. I wasn’t surprised when the Vert was taken down. Good to see a new Park there! Cheers!

@@LeonPaxton Albury has a decent one that was upgraded some time ago, decent sized halfpipes and a nice big lengthy bowl which is undercover and lights for night time

Wow, I used to skate here 20 years when it was a just a bank and two crappy quarter pipes (the "big" one and "small" one). Amazing to see what they've done with it.
Yeah dude, this place has come very far from those 2 metal quarters back in the day lol

3:47 I went to check out Bailey Reserve Skatepark in Melbourne yesterday and saw one these for the first time too. Was confused at first but then I saw the little tools. Very smart idea!

This looks like great park! I build parks in Canada for Transition Construction and Radius Contracting. The design looks awesome and the concrete finish looks really good! The reason the concrete is so polished is for speed and so the speed lasts. I know it is slippery at first but if you make it less polished it will be too rough and slow in a couple years.

The board repair thing is really cool, hope they get introduced at more parks around the country. They would have to get monitored to some capacity though, god knows if people would try vandalise or steal the tools eventually. I'd hope people would have respect for new features but can never be too confident, if they haven't been a thing before there is a good reason for it.

Back in the day, the ramp on the right way bigger, and the smaller ramp had a rubber surface. Used to love this spot in the 80s
It probably would have been fun at the time, especially with the euro gaps on the sides!
sounds like money went missing, the skatepark is sick, but 4mil.... we have a park up here 3 times this size for 2mil
The massive basketball courts are added into that price too so I don’t know exactly how much the courts and skatepark cost separately 🤔

That park is so SO SICKKK!!! (both of them). And I believe more parks should be that unique & chill style anyway. Its more realistic in a "street" sense - which would translate better for kids when they leave the park and hit the streets. And overall better for beginners in general. Always wish I could build a park here in my hometown in honor of my bestfriend who died when we were in high school - not just for in his memory, but for the youth too (cause their aint really shit too skate here and only parks are hours drive away). Anywayyy if I ever can make that possible - would love to get this same company to build it or at least copy the plans of one already built such as the one in this vid. THAT WOULD BE ST8 AMAZINGGG!!! The half pipe is super mellow, and the bowl is fun

It didn't feel too slippery at all but I was riding 97a wheels each time I skated here so I wouldn't actually know how slippery it actually is since i had softer wheels 🤔

My comment probably not relevant to skate parks 🛹 but I’ve always thought surfing and skateboarding as being similar art forms , and am looking forward to Sydney’s first wave park
It is definitely similar since skateboarding was created and inspired by surfing 👌🏼

C'mon now Leon. That's called a 'mini ramp' not a half pipe. A half pipe is essentially half a pipe (or vert ramp), which came from the early days of skating in storm water drains. Gotta keep you young bucks in line with the correct lingo 😉 Thanks for the vid 🤜🤛

The obstacles are sick, and if you can skate between 9am and 3pm on a weekday you might have a prayer. Otherwise the design of a zig-zag line directly overlaid on converging straight lines is absolute madness. Last time I went, it might have taken the daycare title off Syd park.

@@LeonPaxton Plus Syd lights till 9 (vs 7pm). I'm hoping councils start building skateparks deeper into their reserves (like far side of the basketball courts) to avoid noise complaints and keep the lights on.
That's true! Yeah man something like that has to be considered. Especially in summer when you can't skate until the sun goes down because it's too hot but then the lights were already off at 7pm 🙄
Ngl if I could, I would steal this park for my self and then gate keep it away from anyone I didn’t like but mostly just keep it for myself self. But yeah we could never have this in the U.S.

As a returning skater I am kind of peeved that they are polishing the concrete. they have made skateparks more dangerous. If you need polished concrete to do your tricks than you havn't actually learnt them, they are too slippery and takes away the gratification of pulling of a trick while making it way more dangerous. Kind of peeved cause now i have to buy new wheels again to get a softer wheel which will screw me on the street
Yeah man brand new skatepark are so damn slippery but that original coat usually wears down after a couple weeks and it feels good 👌🏼
And I think they also do that so the ground holds it's quality long term 🤔

These are actually 9” Slappy trucks which are only a fraction smaller than the Indy 169’s but I’m loving this size for the bigger egg boards I e been riding 👌🏽

That park is Gorgeous! Man I live in California, so we have great parks everywhere, but their so crowded they aren’t much fun I hope yours aren’t as crowded as ours

Low key dislike this park. The flow is so jank and lines constantly cross with others.
Plus no regular flatbar or pad, all this slanted stuff , so its terrible for people trying to learn tricks.

I skated the original metal quarter pipes back in ‘87! They were the only ramps I knew of, except for the ultra kinked donut bowl in Allawah. We travelled half way across Sydney to skate them. Either way, I could only kick turn on them 😂 Will have to try out the much improved park shown here.
You talking about Kempt field donut bowl? I made my first awkward attempts at skating there as a kid before they filled it in, used to have a bunch of sketchy bmxers there back then

wow! what a blast from the past, I used to skate there in the 80s .I recall a good Chinese restaurant nearby & getting a big feed of fried rice to keep us going all day.
the skatepark looks amazing now. I am in QLD now, we have heaps of great skateparks. great to see the improvements of skateparks in general now.

There’s heaps around Sydney man, most skateparks have a staple flat ledge and flat bar 👌🏽
