Pearl-Ex makes a duo blue/green mica powder which is *fantastic* for potions! I really like the color of this one; the black on its own is wicked, but when it's swirled it gets really ominous.
That’s awesome!! I love that you’re using some of your existing supplies that we may have purchased in the past alongside you. The companion piece collections are amazing! 😍👏💗
@@CookingandCraftChickjust stumbeled across you today. Binge watching ever since. No lie... my 120lb pitbull's name is Doxie! She's a blue but remarkably more silver than others. More notable is she's a slobbering, ferocious beast!!! 😂
I love the colour changing element here. Have you considered a separate, generic "Shake before use" label for bottles like these? Just for the guest that might take that advice and shake it for an awesome surprise, lols. Love your potions collection. Thank you for all the awesome ideas.
I'm so happy your making all of those!!! I'm going to make some for my collection! Thank you so much !! (I'm just waiting for a Basilisk Venom one!! :D )
Another awesome video and another awesome companion for your Doxy potion/ingredient/prop collection. Can’t wait for the next one. Keep up the good work.👍
So excited about this one, unfortunately, I took my Mica Powder to work and school is locked up for the summer :( I am going to try a color-changing acrylic paint and see if that works.
quick question with the sealing wax. I live in an area where it can get over 115F during the summer. If this was in my garage... would the wax run a risk of becoming soft and liquid again.
over time, i find that no matter what liquid I use, whether be alcohol or water or hair gel, it evaporates. Then you've done all this work for a potion bottle that doesn't have anymore potion in it. You can't fill it again sometimes because the cork or lid is so decorated. Have you solved this problem?
I haven’t had this problem, are you using a rubber cork on the alcohol potions? Because that does make a difference. I’ve had a lot of my potions for years and I have little to no evaporation in them. If your potions are in a hot or sunny room that can make a difference too.
There’s not a huge difference between the two. However I do feel like you get a slightly better swirl with less bubbles with the alcohol. But it’s a very minor difference.
I want to make little potions like these but the bottles I’ve bought have normal cork tops, I’m using rubbing alcohol for the potions but I want to make sure it’s not a fire hazard, I heard that completely sealing the cork in with wax works to stop it from being so much of a hazard is there anything else I can do? Edit: to clarify I am going to be sealing it with wax I want to know if there’s any additional measures I can take besides getting rubber corks because I’m using mini bottles and don’t know if I’d be able to find the right size corks.
No but if you use luster dust instead of mica powder you’ll get the same affect it’s basically an edible mica powder. If you look up my Felix felicis cocktail and nonalcoholic drink you’ll see where I use luster dust to get the same affect with an edible potion. I hope that helps 😊
I always make sure my hot glue gun has time to heat up for a while before I use it. Sometimes it doesn’t melt/flow like I want which is when I use the heat gun to get the drips to do what I want. I hope that helps 😊
Question: I’ve made several of these potions and when the mica powder settles the food coloring is gone the water is clear. Am I just not using enough or am I doing something else wrong?
Another cool addition to our potions' shelves, thank you so much! 👍

I've missed your tutorials! I would love to see your version of Basilisk Venom, Troll Bogeys (ew!) and Gnome Saliva!
I tackled troll bogeys in my book, but I will definitely add the other two to the list! 😊💜

I would do colored hot glue drips like I did here. You should be fine with the temps you get. Wax sealing sticks may melt.

Have you noticed a difference between using rubbing alcohol vs distilled water/glycerin for portions? Do you have a preference?

As long as they are encapsulated with either wax or drippy hot glue you should be fine. 😊
@@CookingandCraftChick thank you 😊
If you encapsulate a regular cork with wax or hot glue would it also prevent evaporation?
It should. If it’s in a really sunny or hot room you may still get evaporation just because of the heat.
What happens if you use just straight well water (hard water)?
You will want to add glycerin and maybe a little alcohol too, otherwise you’re for sure going to get yucky water.
If you switched out the alcohol for water, could you drink it? I'm not sure if mica powders are safe to drink/eat

How do you get your hot glue to melt/flow so easily? Mine is always thick and does not drip nicely. I do have a high temp glue gun....

Hmmmmm that’s weird, you might not be using enough. Are you mixing your food coloring before the mica powder so you get the desired base color first??
@@CookingandCraftChick
Yes. I mix the food coloring in first then add the Mica.
@@Bldreaming hmmmmm try adding more, that’s really strange.
