Why I switched to AMD: I needed a computer and AMD-based offered the best value for my needs. Usually that's how I deal most things. More people should try it
You mean you buy your products based on your needs and which products best fit them for a budget? Blasphemy! Everyone knows you should only buy based on the brand!!! /s
@quikgamer so everyone needed a pet rock? McDonald's is quality food? Religion & detoxifying crystals are multibillion dollar businesses without any measurable effectiveness outside of marketing and profit.

When I built my first build, I popped a pin off of a Phenom II and AMD actually replaced it with a note telling me that they are doing this to build customer loyalty. I have never forgotten that gesture and continued to buy AMD ATI cards until Ryzen hit the scene. I just replaced an Intel 3570K system with the Ryzen 3700X and Radeon 5600 XT. Long live AMD.
did a budget build at start of the year - mobo, ryzen5 3600, 5600xt, LP vengeance@3200 and stuff left from breaking down previous build - and stayed around 800euro, try beating or dare any to do that with Intel / Nvidia combo
@@traki1108 Was about to switch to Intel, so what brought you to our side??? I was assuming when you wait a little on Intel, the price goes down to match AMD's and price per performance becomes moot. Just saying. But my old FX is still going strong.
I still remember like 7/8 years ago when there was no Ryzen, nor AMD in general, just Intel and it's extremely high prices. Then Ryzen came, and it was like finally something good for a small amount of money. A few years ago the rule was 2c/2t, 4c/4c and 4c/8t. Always like this for the low-medium CPUs, then the top end that were like a waste of money (not really a waste, just super expansive). AMD changed that and that's why my next build will have a Ryzen and not a Intel Competion is good and saves a lot of money from your wallet

And they capitalized on their performance leads by... Getting into the OEM game for console systems? What? Thus guaranteeing we'll continue rooting for AMD, the little guy.
As a developer, more cores definitely improves my C++ compile times significantly. Ryzen allows me to get that at a cheap price, with exceptional performance.

I actually just bought parts to make a Ryzen system after 3 processors with Intel. It's going to be my gift to myself for going through chemo, beating cancer, and having 3 surgeries. After hearing all the features Intel is taking away (there's a lot, watch Linus if you need more info), I've decided to jump ship. Will look forward to your feed back when I get it built! Only problem is I have to wait for a new GPU. :\
You forget the most important point; the stability and long life of the AM4 platform. Being able to upgrade two or three times on the same motherboard is HUGE.
I think you have to add the caveat that though you can upgrade each generation of AMD AM4 cpus offer new features that the older boards will likely not support. SO, yes, you can swap a new processor in there but you might not get access to all the features that processor has to offer [edit for clarity]. Further, that older board that you have might struggle with memory frequencies. My old B350-f struggles with anything over 2933 on the memory.
@@gj4178 and here I was told that x370 was pointless. Last bios update I did allows memory to post at 3200 and remain stable. I just needed a voltage bump to do that. Before it wouldn't take that, but it would happily post 2933.
socket, but not chipset. AMD is really only giving you one extra generation over intel, which is nice, but it's not the same as implying it would support every generation on the same motherboard.
lmao go look up performance on i5-10060k for 270$ beating 300-400$ amd cpus if u overclock slightly it outperforms a i9/i7 in gaming and they are the best consumer. only go amd if u need the extra cores for editing/3d software, . how does a Cpu gain 5-30+ fps in any titles. i guess it dont matter since u probably have a 60 hz panel. So dosen't matter either way.

The "doesn't have s**it integrated graphics", well you'd better delete that. Because if you're willing to build a machine, for sure you'll consider getting a graphics card. And the sad truth, when it comes to Adobe products, having the integrated + dedicated GPU helps a lot for intel, even with an 8/16 core CPU vs AMD's 12/24. That's for the rendering time. Although the difference is not so noticeable, considering that AMD might be slower with 1,5-3 minutes, when working on huge projects, you'll feel the difference. I don't know, but until Adobe figures something out, it will be like that. Anyway, AMD is still the winner, and this fourth generation showed that up (on the laptop market, for the moment. Waiting to see what's gonna happen on PC's).
Dimitri Asimov Compare an entry level amd ryzen 3 2200g Vega 8 integrated chip, it can run fort nite, overwatch so so. Buy an intel chip, integrated graphics card is a joke. Price per performance and value winner is AMD. I tested the integrated graphics on AMD and is not bad. Bought a dedicated graphics card anyways.

Dude have you sttoped to think about the fact that not everybody is rich? For people who can't afford graphics cards, the Zen / Zen+ / Zen2 APUs are a great option.
Arguably you dont need to upgrade the mobo/cpu for 4-6 years period, technically. Assuming you're not buying the very bottom end of the product stack, a CPU/Mobo will stay and be relevant for 4-6 years easy whereas even the best GPU will start to struggle after 2-3. With the new consoles both having 8c/16t Zen 2 based CPU's. Game engines have a good chance of being optimized better for those 8c/16t. So a 2700X/3700X today should last you well through the PS5/Series X life cycle.

anyone who is over the age of 12 and recommends AMD is in fact a shill. the company sucks. the products are shit. compatibility? nope! If you are a gamer on a budget but can afford to build a new "budget" pc every 2 years then AMD is for you.
Biggest reason I switched: I trust AMD a lot more not to switch sockets with every single generation. Second reason: price/performance and better choice for me as a techy wanting a well rounded system for various uses
Socket changes for me has never been an issue. I usually go 4-6 years on a platform(mobo, cpu ram etc) between upgrades (minus the GPU). Even with forward compatibility, I rarely see the point in dropping another 400-500 on a CPU that is only 10% better then what I had. I'll wait 5 or 6 years then just upgrade everything in one go giving a much more noticeable and appreciative performance jump, plus all new tech (PCIe 5, DDR5, nvme 2.0, VRM designs, BIOS features etc. for example), something you'll always miss out on, if you just keep re-using an older motherboard/chipset regardless of its forward compatibility. I have a 3900X/2080Ti now. Though Ill need to change the GPU in a year or 2, I fully expect this X570, 32GB 3600mhz DDR4 Ram and 12core 3900X to last me until 2025 easy, which gives me plenty of time to save up for next platform upgrade.
@@rodrigofonseca1160 That' a bit difficult to answer. Without trying to sound conceited or entitled, for me, it's because I play on a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor @ 120hz and even when the 2080Ti came out It couldn't max out all the titles I play, let alone now 2 years in with it and I'm seeing more and more titles having to lower settings to stay at my 100/120 FPS target with my resolution. However, if you are someone building today and only plans on running say a 60hz 1080p panel, sure that 2060S/2070S/5700 will easily last 5-6 years and you often see this all the time with people still on 960's etc with a 1080p60 monitor only just now getting to where they feel its time to upgrade. But even then, those who want to max all the eye candy out in new and AAA titles and let those games look as good as they can regardless of resolution will have a limited lifecycle of their GPU before they have to start dropping settings down, which is far shorter than their CPU becoming the weakest link. There are still people happily running i7 2600k's and 3770k's from 2011 and 2012 respectively. @DAFFA RAYZA PRATAMA SETYAWAN Those two are premium chipsets for now. Remember the B450 launch it was expensive just like B550 without having the amazing features. It will eventually drop down in price just B450 did. X570 is a premium chipset also let's compare: X570 is same tier as Z490 but it's more expensive granted it's because of demand (if you compare the same boards but a little before demand increased X570 will win) also it has more features that you might say you won't be interested in. B460 is the same price as B450 (eventually B550 is gonna get there) but the cost of the CPU makes intel platforms more expensive to build in even if they are cheaper because of the lack of features.
@@potato14928 weird , when b450 released it was really not expensive as B550 now, it cost abit litle more than b450 now, but not really alot as b550 now. When I was researching parts for my computer, I was extremely impressed with how AMD was performing. So much so that I bought stock (not enough to retire on but a nice little investment) and I'm happy that I did, up 70% since I bought it. My only regret is that I didn't by the stock when it was at $1.50 a few years back.

“I think it’s the first time a new feature first came on AMD.” 64-bit computing first started on AMD. It was actually a huge deal at the time, and particularly satisfying to at least some to watch Intel having to grovel to AMD for the spec after trying to lock them out of the market with Slot 1. (In fairness, Jay said “since I’ve been doing this channel” and this was before that.)
Fun fact, the powermac g5 was the first consumer computer that was available with 64 bit execution by a few months ahead of amd. However, powerpc macs arent x86 like intel or amd though.
AMD64 wasn't the first 64 bit computing - Intel beat them to it with IA-64 - but that was an entirely new architecture and with all the issues of switching it ended up tanking and not gaining much interest. plans for IA-64 were announced in 1994 and the instructioin set was released in 1999. AMD 64 was publicly disclosed in 1999 as well. AMD64 was the easier adoption. IA-64 was released in 2001, after being delayed (was supposed to be '98-'99 when announced). AMD64 took until 2003 to release the Opteron and Athalon64 processors. Neither were first to 64-bit though. Depending on exactly what you account - data/instruction word size? Address size? you can go back to 1961 or 1991 respectively.
i switched from intel to amd 22 years ago, my younger brother and i went to a Lan, and my pc was having issues, and without me knowing, my brother swapped out my intel celeron 800 for his celeron 700, me being determined for that to never happen again, i built a new pc with an amd duron 1000, and never looked back, i also had a K62 sitting on my desk.
I've always been an AMD guy. First it was because I was broke and it happened to be what I got secondhand. Nowadays it's because I work with video editing and encoding, and the multicore performance helps. Also I'm still broke.
When I started to build my new pc early this year I switched to AMD because quite frankly I was more excited about the company and what they had achieved than Intel.
Similar situation here. Before 2010, I was on AMD. But from 2010 to 2020, I was on Intel for obvious reasons. This year, I made the switch to Ryzen and hopefully I can stay on this platform for the next 9 or 10 years.
My previous build from 2008 was AMD based with gts 450, it stayed until the end of 2020 and well... I bought another AMD, ryzen this time. Never bought an intel cpu before and probably never will, i just don't feel there's a value behind their pricing

I second the blind test. You can really not tell the difference. One of the things that improved my gaming experience was uninstalling the riva statistics server. Just put the ultra preset and enjoy the game. We sometimes go too far to adjust every little setting to the max, and always look at the fps and the 1% Lows and we tend to forget the real goal which is to enjoy the damn game..
I only run it when I really want to. For example for in game temperature monitoring. That's about it though. It stays on my pc, but sees very little use since I don't really care about fps.
Why I switched to AMD: The same reason why I switched from Adobe Premiere / After Effects to Davinci Resolve Studio. I support a product who's company shows the highest potential growth.
i'm that kinda guy that always wants to embrace the things others avoid and show them how well they can be used compared to what's popular or normal. gotta love an underdog.
I'd been using Adobe Products on Apple for around six years and rarely ever had an issue. I then switched over to PC last year and had a mixed experience. With NVidia GPU's, I noticed significantly improved live playback (especially Red footage with which AMD GPUs struggle) but the stability wasn't great. So I decided to take a stab at Hackintoshing. It took a while but with a little help, I was able to get my gear running natively with the Open Core bootloader. My machine's specs are on par with the high end consumer iMac with the 9900k but without the thermal constrictions of the iMac itself. I'm also running a Radeon 5700 xt and 64GB RAM. It enabled be to do a side-by-side comparison between Premiere in MacOS and Premiere in Windows 10 and the difference was pretty clear in my case. Premiere in MacOS (even on a Hackintosh if you'd believe it) was far more stable for me - even with RED footage. All this to say, I think the reason Premiere is so lackluster for some is that Adobe is known to work very closely with Apple and if you're using Windows or even an older Mac product, you aren't necessarily Adobe's main focus, hence the not-so-great performance. It's not the best look or best business model, IMO but my clients are Adobe Premiere based so for the time being, I have to use it. My personal preference is Avid Media Composer and to a far lesser extent, FCPX. I've only recently started to learn DaVinci for the color correction, but it's edit panel looks and feels an awful lot like FCPX, so I might get caught up on that in case clients ask for it.
AMD has easily been the best value for high core count cpu's for heavy processing requirements for work since 2017. Why are people acting like this is a new thing for 2020?
I built a AMD 3400G with a B450 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.0) motherboard in it for a friend last year. I went over to her house yesterday to "update" drivers and install a webcam so she can ZOOM with her grandkids. I am shocked how bad AMD/Gigabyte are. The motherboard is on BIOS 41 from the factory. It will not update to F50 at all. Gives error that you need 64bit version. IT IS THE 64 BIT VERSION FROM YOUR WEBSITE GIGABYTE!!! Gigabyte Sucks. ASUS forever. So then I go to update the AMD Vega drivers. That works well. So my last task is to get Windows 10 to update to version 2004. Well the OS updates to 1909 (not even 2002) and updates Edge to the new "better" Edge but then OS gives a notice that 2004 is NOT READY for your system just yet. It is getting ready and you will be notified when it is ready for download. My home Intel computer has 2004 already. All the 10400 i5 computers I built are on 2004 but NOT the AMD. So be careful when you buy AMD chips and Motherboards. The support might not be there.
because we have seen AMD come out with the next big thing and not do it well. first 64 bit but then Intel came out with 64 bit and hyper threading . fist muti-core but only in a server chip every time I have come time to build my systems Intel has had taken away the lead that AMD had so I've always been Intel.. when I first heard of ryzen I was sure Intel was just going to take that idea and improve and by the time time I was building my next full build it was going to be Intel. I was very surprised to hear three years out AMD is still spanking Intel in terms of performance and price and I switched. in other worlds this isn't the first time AMD did something ground breaking. but this time have done it very well.

This is the exact same reason why Im also switching from my 5 year old i5 system to a Ryzen, AMD caught my attention and the more I did my research on Ryzen, the more I hooked.
I had an amd triple core processor and it lasted from 2006-09. When I heard Intel was significantly faster I jumped on 4790k. Then when I heard AMD was making a huge jump to beat core processor i7 6800k I knew serious work could be done with this.

@@LuminousSpace I agree. I have recently built newer desktops and instead of Intel 10th gen I used 9th and 8th gen motherboards and CPU's. Less money for a whole lot more value since there's not much gain with the new 1200 socket. Upgrades are expensive enough, no reason to buy a new board for 10th and no major improvements. Intel is making the entire computer hardware markets more money with socket changes however, when I see the performance gains as little, it makes me spend on old hardware, not new.
why i chose amd: 1- I bought a R5 1400 with a aorus b450 elite 2- withing the next few months I'll be able to buy a 4th gen R5. 3- 1 motherboard, 4 generations of cpu vs intel; every cycle new socket, new pin layout, 14nm refresh!
I dont think the avg user should give a damn what process the CPUs are on. As if AMD is faster (in games) on 7nm than Intel on 14nm. Yes power consumption is lower and IPC is higher (not correllated to process size), but imagine what Intel could do, if they cared? They being at 14nm are still the king of gaming, but nothing else anymore. Kudos on AMD for respecting AM4 promise, its awesome! And the prices are quite low! But as Ive said before, MAX FPS cost a very very high premium, and Intel still rock it - quite sad actually.
I did enjoy how long the AM3/AM3+ platform lasted until the switch to AM4. I assume the 4 is for DDR4 so obviously that is probably why they had to change the socket. Intel changes their socket so much that anyone who keeps buying their CPUs is a moron who likes to throw money down the toilet. If I had to upgrade my motherboard every time I upgraded my CPU I would throw my PC out the window and go back to Xbox.

@5:40 Alec from Technology Connections makes this point about video editing really well. It's a really small part of making content and it may not be that big of a deal to wait slightly longer for rendering if you only do it occasionally.
But this still make more sense compared to X Box and PS fans dissing each other. That's where you really see these people thinking their stuff is better just because they own it.
Why would you switch your 2700x, I have it too, 4.2-4.3 GHz with pbo and boost shenanigans on and even -0.1v underolt via offset. I see merit switching only when ps5 era will end or when affordable and good DDR5 ram will be released.

True thats why AMD was actually behind Intel, its just another of Users especially gamers were tied to intel and thus hated on AMD in my opinion. I used to be a Mac users and my very first PC was an Antholon computer from Compaq lol.
Exactly. In the early 2000s, Intel and AMD were leapfrogging each other. Between 2003 and 2005, Intel did not have an answer to the Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2. The Prescott core was a laughing joke, and Pentium D was just two Pentium 4 Prescotts glued together. Conroe finally released in 2006. Intel is stuck in their rut similar to where they were in 2003-05. They're just upping clock speed and more cores without switching from 14nm++++++, thus driving up the cost, power draw and heat output, thus why AMD Ryzen is more attractive.
I switched simply for the simple fact that at the same performance level AMD had a significantly less cpu usage percentage then intel.. like literally the 10900k was 51% usage at 95 fps as compared to 28% for AMD. Makes me feel more comfortable for future proofing.
I’m on an AMD system for the first time ever. I went that way because I just wanted to build on something different than my normal and I was able to get a lot of performance for my money. If I am honest, the AMD fanboys really drive me up the wall right now.
The awful thing is, those AMD fanbois put many potential AMD buyers off with their unpleasant attitude / lack of social skills. The irony is, they think they're helping the cause ....
@@dtsdigitalden5023 I love how intel guys are like "Intel better gaming, AMD better work loads" then the AMD fanbois come in and start talking about 14mm++++++++++ and saying AMD better. Like come on guys both chipsets have their advantages, sure intel costs more but this is an industry where for like less then 1%(Both intel and AMD) we pay sometimes thousands more to wave our big dick 3dmark scores and whatnots
What AMD fanboys? Where do you guys see so many AMD fanboys? Do you hang out at microcenter? Genuinely curious. Is anyone who thinks AMD's price to performance is better a fanboy?
I was Intel for years and recently switched, i think AMD is "now" better sure. But i agree about the Fanboys. Also i have always used Android and i don't like iOS, but the Fanboys make us look bad.
I was never "loyal" to Intel, I just tried to find the best CPU for my needs and Intel had always fit the bill. But after installing my first ryzen CPU (and aio) without needing a f*cking backplate I'm now a whole hearted AMD convert. That's all it took lolol
Tyrant they don’t give credit cause amd was really pathetic at that time and intel kept on charging money for similar chips for very long and didn’t innovate much ! Just they rooted for their better single thread and which was pretty much static for very long ! They launched their 1st gen i7 with 6 core and then they just got it exclusive for the business category ! Just swallow 1 gen i7 was 6 core them 7 generation was just limited to 4 cores ! Then with ryzen launched they launched 6 cored i7 ! They could have just given good 6 core cpu for some money not like the money they charged for exclusive xeon chips! 😐 yeah there were xeon for 6 cores which cost 2-3-4x Quadcores !
Not to mention the FX-9590 was the 1st chip to break the 5ghz barrier. That's not a feature in the strictest sense, but it shows they were pushing boundaries even when they were down.
Intel pissed me off when I needed to upgrade my core 2 duo and they just kept putting out 4 core, 8 thread CPUs. I held out upgrading hoping Skylake would be awesome. Instead we got a tiny IPC boost and yet another generation of quad coreness. If they had, I might still be on that machine. But no, AMD is now awesome for productivity and I went all the way to a 12 core.
@Armando Problemas Not everyone is only playing CSGO on their PC. Try running a modern AC game above 60FPS consistently with 8 game launchers,Chrome,Shadowplay,Discord,Anti-Virus and Windows Update running in the background simultaneously.
See this is the thing, it can even be justified on a purely selfish performance basis if you play the long game. Take a slight performance hit *for now*. By supporting them and competition, the next time you upgrade the options will be better.
@@morosis82 it ain't even a performance hit now. 4000 series rocks.😁 I hope Intel brings competition to Amd really good competition I'm upgrading my PC next year and my motherboard has a lga socket ... Come-on Intel you can do it(I'm crying inside) if not I'll just buy a motherboard as well. gotta save up😌
@@namitar8312 Intel still has the raw speed crown in lightly threaded apps like games. I love that AMD has given them a walloping in everything else, as we can see now that more cores does improve even some games and we have double the cores we did for roughly the same cost. I myself will probably upgrade to 4000 series desktop, as it's been a few years and I'm starting to use my machine more like a workstation. I'm happy to give up a handful of fps for the benefits, not only in workstation performance but also in pushing the competition so that my next upgrade will be even better.
Yep... I had i5 2500k and then i7 4790k. Golden days of Intel. But now as of late, R7 3700X. Beast mode. AMD comeback, great chips and awesome value for money. 8 cores. Balanced all-rounder beasts
I switched to amd because I do animation/vfx using houdini. Having all those cores allows me to do multiple tasks, like rendering, caching, simulating at once
Athlon back in the early 2000s, then had inten for years, jumped back on the ryzen 1700 certainly ae teething issues but stuck with it and now on a 3700x which is such a dream.
Sticking with AMD lol. Had my first computer when I was 12 (I'm 20 now) and had that pc for yeeeaaaars! It was awful new x3 it was a AMD A10-5800k with 4 gigs of ram. A unidentifiable msi mother board. And no graphics card... at the beginning of the year with my income tax. I decided to upgrade as a birthday present. Ordered the parts. Which ironically they all arrived the day before my birthday in February. Ryzen 2600, 16 gigs of hyper x 3200mz ram, gigabyte b450, xfx RX580 black edition, a 250 gig m.2 ssd for a boot device and some open world games, a Seagate 2 TB hdd, and a silver rated corsair 750W psu for upgradeablity in the future cause I sure as shit am upgrade everything once I get the chance lol. But everything in total was about $800 and like I couldn't be happier AMD gave Intel a kick in the chops and when I was actually able to afford a upgrade AMD had finally become competitive. Cause if they hadn't I'd was honestly gonna get a i7-7700k. Edit: Fixed a few grammatical errors I had noticed.

My 2015 build was Intel, my new build (one month ago) is AMD. I've been following AMD's story over the past few years, always considering building another computer, but delaying because another Zen is always coming,. By the time I was ready to build, I didn't even consider Intel. It's not like I even made a choice between Intel and AMD. I made a choice between different Ryzen SKUs.
I'm a developer and I almost immediately invested in AMD's stock after the 3950x came out, I also bought the 3950x for personal use / side projects. AMD has been doing a lot of things right recently causing them to be a disruption in the chip manufacturing space.
If the major Intel’s argument is gaming you know they’re choked and getting down on the market. AMD is revenging us for all the sold Pentiums procesors above the $500.
I've had a handme down Phenom quad core for the entirety of middle school and junior high, it was a tough little performer, then was able to upgrade to first gen Ryzen system when it came out and it's a universe of difference
I think i had a phenom 1 from a friend in high school as well and upgraded to a phenom 2 955 Black edition for my first two rigs. Then I went intel 3700k in 2011 to a intel 6700k in 2015 and am still running with it now. The allure to go back to amd is strong especially with the XT series coming out soon. Not to mention i just upgraded my GF's FX8350 to a Ryzen 3600 complete with flashy led memory, fans and x570 chipset. While i'm still running around with my Haf 932 case of 6 years, 6 year old gskill, 6 year old radiator and power supply, Asus z170 motherboard .
For me I went with AMG for the "Rudy Effect" around the time they acquired ATI. Never looked back. I haven't bought an Intel or Nvidia product since and been very happy with that choice. Building a new Ryzen 9 system currently.
In my old job, I was given a top end Intel i7 system. Running multiple remote sessions, I found issues where one core would get saturated, and it would run like crap, while the other cores sat mostly idle. I switched to my FX9590 and I gained massive multitasking ability. It just seems like AMD can handle so much more smoothly, while Intel is like a drag car that can go fast for one thing only. Personal experience seems different than what stats report.
I've heard a story like yours from one of my friends who still work in this sector. Intel is extremely good but high end i7/i9 are only for a personal use, but when it came to multiple session they just are a flop. He never switched to AMD also because he had a i7-6950x and he didn't want just to trow in the trashcan that cpu, now he has a Threadripper 3950x and he loves it
I had both. With rendering my Vegas projects my i7 would get the job done faster but it was virtually unusable - you would walk away for a couple hours. My bro's FX took way longer but was able to render full Vegas projects while playing games with barely any noticeable lag - So basically you have Intel - unusable while rendering or AMD a true multi core experience even if it was "fake" cores.
A few years ago, like befor 2017 i would have told the same. My previous pc was based on intel because there was no AMD alternative, then Ryzen came and it's just a very good family, cheap and good
Same, intel for many years. I done a temporary switch to the ryzen 5 3600 (mainly to get the x570 motherboard features) compared to my i7 6700k I was expecting performance to be the same at 1440p but its actually slighty better and the extra cores/threads make a huge difference in editing etc.. Runs cooler too. I love it but I'm still looking to get a 4700x once it releases
I don't know why everyone give shit at FX processors. I have an FX 6300 (6 cores, 3.5 ghz) which is more or less 8 years old, and my PC can still have run a lot of games and I can work with audio editing workstations with a lot of VSTs open. I've always been happy with my PC and now I'm switching to the same Ryzen you mentioned. Hope it lasts another 8 years!
Where do you see a big impact on extra cores? I started doing web design, want to learn Kotlin for Android dev. Where do you think my 6core/12threads threshold is? Thank you for your time. I mean it ;)
Jay, you've really said all the points I keep bringing up to people in one 16 minute video! I swore never to get AMD after the Bulldozer/Piledriver.. FX series disaster, yet here I am with my 4790k holding out until it can't keep up anymore to switch to a R9 3950x And you really know your audience lol, hello from a Belgian IT support analyst/Windows image dev team One part of my job is easy enough and can be done with 2 cores & 4 threads, the other has my work laptop to it's knees to the point where I do most of my work after hours because then it only takes me 30-45 minutes instead of a full day; bless running 3 VM's at once .. with 4 cores (hey it works!) Anyways, you're not a shill & never misinformed us; thanks for the content ^^
@@Steve25g I'm planning to dual boot or virtualize my windows install to run Linux Windows .. yeah it sucks all right :) Also about the VM thing, it was meant at Intel's dual core chips from a few years back; all thinkpads at work used to have them No doubt an FX series chip can do VM's well i'd think
Another factor is security. Between security flaws and the Management Engine, Intel isn't a great choice these days. Yes, AMD has the PSP, but so far, it hasn't been hacked.

A few years ago the rule was 2c/2t, 4c/4c and 4c/8t. Always like this for the low-medium CPUs, then the top end that were like a waste of money (not really a waste, just super expansive). AMD changed that and that's why my next build will have a Ryzen and not a Intel

You forget the most important point; the stability and long life of the AM4 platform. Being able to upgrade two or three times on the same motherboard is HUGE.
Dunno about the stability but long life sure.
@@df3yt I've had actual stability and even improved memory stability with just bios updated. So far it hasn't failed me.

socket, but not chipset. AMD is really only giving you one extra generation over intel, which is nice, but it's not the same as implying it would support every generation on the same motherboard.

Edit:AMD 5000 series just proof Intel user wrong again

@@junkiexl86 Honest question, with a 2080Ti why would you think you will need to change in a year or two? What have you been playing mate?
But, you pretty much will not see anyone still on a GPU from 2011/2012 (GTX 500 series/ Radeon HD 6000 series) if you see what I'm saying.

“I think it’s the first time a new feature first came on AMD.”
64-bit computing first started on AMD.
AMD had the first 1ghz chip also. That was a huge deal back in the day.
Pretty sure they both had new tech that each other have copied all the time
The Athlon x64's weren't bad either, they were great desktop CPUs !

Why I switched to AMD:
The same reason why I switched from Adobe Premiere / After Effects to Davinci Resolve Studio. I support a product who's company shows the highest potential growth.
Adobe has ruined their products over the years. Every update is less and less optimized. It’s like they hire the worse developers.
i'm that kinda guy that always wants to embrace the things others avoid and show them how well they can be used compared to what's popular or normal. gotta love an underdog.

ClayDog Your problem was buying a gigabyte motherboard. I’ve heard tons of complaints about out how shit gigabyte boards are, and how shit their software and bios is.
What was once a marginal value proposition has now become a raw performance proposition, at least for workloads that scale to use massive parallelism.
@@claydog6422 Get MSI or Asus next time. I've only had MSI in my rigs, and even when I had issues, the long warranties have always been honored. Also, avoid upgrading to the latest windows version, too many issues. It's a windows issue by the way, Microsoft is Intel biased. @@guesschannel341 except you still had to upgrade the motherboard each generation if you wanted to have everything the newer generation of chips had due to the newer chipsets. While you weren't kicked off every other generation like Intel, you wanted the newest and greatest and leverage the new chip 100%, you had to grade every generation because the older chipset couldn't use the upgraded I/O bandwidth for more USB 3.1 and 3.2, or maximize PCIe 3 bandwidth ect.
How good is that though? Okay if you go with low/mid tire cpus, i would not pair a R9 3900x with a cheap ass B450 motherboard, if you have a 500$ cpu you can put 200-250$ on a good motherboard and you should because you need good VRMs.
It's amazing how in only a couple years, this video is no longer needed since AMD is on a pretty even footing against Intel. I use AMD so my room doesn't turn into an oven.
To the best of my faded memories, I've used Intel CPUs from 2001 to 2019. There were times i wanted a reason to try AMD and the last time I did any significant research was during the 990FX/phenom days but the motherboards looked so unappealing.
I hadn't really learned much about Ryzen until I started seeing news about the 3000 series chips because it wasn't until then I decided to upgrade my 5-year-old i5 system. When I read more and more about Ryzen, the more I became interested in it and knew it was the hook I needed to switch from Intel.
I'm just gonna say, AMD is for people who wants more than a 14NM skylake refresh for the 1000th time, and more cores on the budget.

Intel is making the entire computer hardware markets more money with socket changes however, when I see the performance gains as little, it makes me spend on old hardware, not new.
why i chose amd:
1- I bought a R5 1400 with a aorus b450 elite
2- withing the next few months I'll be able to buy a 4th gen R5.
The reason I bought AMD I could get a 16 core 2 years ago for the price of a 9900k

Jay: "They have earned your trust."
TH-cam subtitles: "They have BURNED your trust!"
@@dtsdigitalden5023 "Unpleasant attitude / lack of social skills." I think your just described yourself to a T! THAT is what irony is. Awful comment.
I was never "loyal" to Intel, I just tried to find the best CPU for my needs and Intel had always fit the bill. But after installing my first ryzen CPU (and aio) without needing a f*cking backplate I'm now a whole hearted AMD convert. That's all it took lolol
Ooo somebody's a little salty lol
Ye, i fiddle with my backplate at least 3 times per week so all i have to say is screw Intel..
@Tyrant Benches don't lie.
@Tyrant What? AMD dominated Intel for the better part of a decade. Yeah it was a really long time ago but your comment is astoundingly ignorant
"The first time that a new feature launched on AMD rather than intel"... 64bit, Dual Core, Quad Core.... XD
yes, that part wasn't the most accurate... let's assume it meant in the last decade?
Not to mention the FX-9590 was the 1st chip to break the 5ghz barrier. That's not a feature in the strictest sense, but it shows they were pushing boundaries even when they were down.
He said since he has been running this channel, last 8 years ;)
@@hynsey I was waiting for someone to say that :P
@@hynsey Ok then, 12nm architecture, 7nm architecture. Consumer-grade 16 cores, 32 cores, 64 cores.
@Armando Problemas any media based work loads will benifit. My ryzen 9 smears my i7 s face on the sidewalk in Vegas 17 pro.
@Armando Problemas Not everyone is only playing CSGO on their PC.

@Armando Problemas He is the 5%, any question?
@Armando Problemas Yes 95% don't need 12 cores but he said for productivity so he needs the power, you disproved your own point lmao
Intel is still using the Core architecture (although heavily improved) today lol
The way intel conduct themselves make me want to go AMD even if I take a slight performance hit
Well except for gaming you get really good video editing capabilities to your pc
Come-on Intel you can do it(I'm crying inside) if not I'll just buy a motherboard as well. gotta save up😌
Peromance is much better on AMD. See the benchmarks
I was always constrained by my budget to Amd, and I still am. Only now, I'm happy for it.
"Switching" to AMD, or "going back" to AMD?
@Thomas Borisov Me too! Old Athlon, i5-2400k, 3600 Ryzen now
Athlon back in the early 2000s, then had inten for years, jumped back on the ryzen 1700 certainly ae teething issues but stuck with it and now on a 3700x which is such a dream.
In my 22yrs PC history a never had Intel cpu in my computer. Always AMD but started in 1998 with Cyrix cpus few yrs then all time AMD cpu's.

This happens so often where he spends the video discussing a competitive brand to his sponsor in a positive light. You'd have thought the sponsors would request to be put in a video that discusses their product.. or at least one which doesn't directly compete with whatever he is talking about.
"Fx was horrible "

The jump from Fx 8300 to a ryzen 5 3600 was mind-blowing imo

Tbh it's an amazing cpu for its age. Runs every game I've ever played with no complaint
@@mezzowatt yeah I wouldn't buy my cpu nowadays but for the price I paid 6 years ago I say it was worth every cent
I'm a developer and I almost immediately invested in AMD's stock after the 3950x came out, I also bought the 3950x for personal use / side projects.
AMD has been doing a lot of things right recently causing them to be a disruption in the chip manufacturing space.
I was telling people to invest in AMD in April 2016. Shame I didn't have anything to invest at the time.
i bought in dec 2018, at peak before corona i was tripling my money in a year.
In 2016 I bought AMD stock at 4$ a share. I was stupid enough to sell when it hit 4.5$ :/
He never switched to AMD also because he had a i7-6950x and he didn't want just to trow in the trashcan that cpu, now he has a Threadripper 3950x and he loves it
I experienced that too in different ways, even on athlon II X2 250 cpu I got a smoother work flow more than i7 5500u
I just built my first ever AMD system after a life of saying I will never buy AMD lol I was an Intel shill, now I love AMD this new 3800x rocks!

Another factor is security. Between security flaws and the Management Engine, Intel isn't a great choice these days. Yes, AMD has the PSP, but so far, it hasn't been hacked.
