Yeah even if you are a gamer only you've got AMD to thank for intel hyperthreaded i5s that are sub $300 12 threaded gaming beasts. Otherwise it may have been as underwhelming as the 9600k.
Being in Aerospace Engineering we used to use Intel. But now for simulations you can't beat the thread count of AMD. Taking hours off simulation compute times is huge.
Jeffrey why am i going to pay a premium for intel if i can get the exact specs for hundreds of dollars less. “better for gaming” since when is a $500 cpu the standard for gaming, you can build a whole ass computer for $500. Amd has their 12 core for $420, why am i paying $500 for 8 cores? “faster speed per core?” are you even going to notice 3.5vs4.5?? its a cpu! not a GPU. Ryzen is the future unless intel releases 7nm or higher thread count. ryzen 5 3600 for $150, 6 cores, 12 threads, nothing going to beat that. no one has $1200+ for “best gaming pc” Ryzen is the best for gaming. Way cheaper. Ryzen gets young people into building PCs because they can do it for so cheap. Ive tried making an intel build as cheap as all amd and you just cant, price to performance, AMD has the lead. Jay: Why are people still buying Intel? Answer: The A-10 wallpaper hinting heavily at DCS which desperately needs every single MHz single core clock rate and IPC you could possibly throw at it. AMD left the chat.
Yep, that's the only reason I went intel for my new CPU. The 5.1 GHz on the i5 9600k was just too good to pass up, especially with VR becoming more popular. A similar AMD setup was around the same price, but it just couldn't push the same amount of power. Maybe in the future AMD will surpass intel in pure single core performance, but until then, Intel is king in DCS.

General consumer is not uneducated. They have different needs and wants. Enthusiasts as a whole tend to think that what they want is what everyone wants. Doesn’t matter if it’s a vehicle or computer they always think this way. And there’s a reason that manufacturers almost always ignore the enthusiasts.
I got into computers in the early 90s and built my first system shortly after that. I jumped on the AMD bandwagon from the get-go, mostly because they were cheaper. I continued to use AMD in my builds throughout the years with no issues. Last year I wanted to upgrade my computer so I built a system based on the Intel i9 chip. I should mention that I am not a gamer. Never have been. I'm a photographer so photo editing is big for me. I say use whatever works for you. I can use either platform and be happy with them both. Of course budget is always a determining factor. If your computer does what you need it to do then the platform isn't that important. To me anyway. Excellent video!
Remember looking at computer parts and asking for Intel, the store services told me to look at AMD “because they are better!” They were not listening to why I wanted Intel. Intel works better for the software I want to be using. I did not want to shop there after that, because they would not listing to me.
Exactly. This whole debate is stupid. AMD is better at some things, Intel is better at others. While AMD is making advancements and could surpass intel pretty soon, they are not there yet. Intel still does better in single core applications, and has better OC potential. It's not a simple case of "they are better".

The Athlon was so unstable, that I stayed with Intel there after. Also because I hadn't the necessity to upgrade for 6 years. Now I built 3 machines with AMD last year and I'm extremely happy with them. I have 16 cores for less than 1000 Euros (if I would have waited 2 months, I would have payed 150 Euros less). I was happy with Intel, but now AMD did a great job. They should not only be supported, in my eyes they earned to be supported, but you get more for less. It's the better deal. Firestone gave ford a recommended air pressure to run the tires at, and ford ignored their recommendation and set the tire pressure way too low, for a better ride, causing the tires to blow out. Biggest reason: stability Including gaming, one game was known to brick computers because of bad drivers and the immature chiplet design. They patched it, but it wasn't something that they would have to worry about with Intel.
@@S85B50Engine Space engineers was what i was talking about, but ive heard people have issues with almost every game that was older than the chiplet design itself, even if it was as little as a few seconds older Edit: think of it this way, multithreaded support is already hard enough to implement, now you have to worry about timings between chiplets and lost data or degraded data or latency induced by the fact that they arent one monolithic chip (even though its tiny, think of the fact that these chips do MULTIPLE INSTRUCTIONS AT BILLIONS OF TIMES A SECOND, mistakes add up very quickly at that scale)
Most common reason I've heard over the years was down to AMD having sub-par driver support and issues over multiple generations. When I build for myself, I tend towards Intel, but have built AMD a few times, when it makes sense. When I build for others, Intel ALWAYS. It's less true now that AMD has been rockin' it for a while now, but over decades the general trend is that the mobos and firmware for AMD have just all too often been less reliable. Lately this looks to be improving, FINALLY. But I build systems to last. I build systems that I know people aren't going to clean the dust out of regularly. I build systems that people aren't going to flash the latest firmware update onto. So what I will put up with is not the same level of what I will put my name at stake for. It's not AMD's fault, but they just don't win my dollar as often because of it. That said, lately Intel has been lagging badly at keeping up with things like PCIe4, sooo ... my next build will probably be AMD unless Intel can get their act together before I get my finances together for my next build.

Well, I've been working in IT for the last 14 years (SysAdmin/cybersecurity) and been building PCs since the mid-90's. I've been hearing this "stability" argument in favor of Intel for years and yet I have NEVER seen an AMD-based workstation that exhibited any "instabilities", and I've built and seen *a lot* of different machines. I'm using " " here because the term "instability" seems to be used so vaguely to the point that I really think it's all just unsubstantiated pro-Intel bias at this point. In other words, in my experience, this "Intel is more stable" (whatever that might mean exactly) argument is debatable at best, and total BS at worst. Basically, the "stability" claim is one of the last things Intel's marketing is clinging onto since they've been on the defensive for a few years now (and rightfully so, since AMD is basically kicking their asses on almost all fronts).
@rockn roll How? The minimal benefits from intel CPU's for gaming isn't worth the inflated prices. 5 FPS for $200 more is laughable at best. PPD is far better with Ryzen.

Now, after careful study about the current situation regarding AMD and Intel, I decided to buy AMD Ryzen 3600x processor for my new build. And after that brand loyalty was gone, it was evident that AMD had the goods this time. Been using the rig for 6 months now and couldn‘t be more satisfied. Everything worked right out of the box perfectly, and the system is solid as a rock stability-wise. Very pleased with AMD.

He's still using it as a streaming device for movies and tv. His build has kind of been my inspiration for my next one. I'm glad it's going good for you.
I chose AMD for my build because their lineup was generally more easy to understand. All chips were unlocked and did not lack features of the higher ends ones within the same generation and naming skew. I chose the 2600 because it had 6 cores / 12 threads and on the intel side, there was the 9400f, which had 6c, but only 6 threads. The 9400f was also more expensive at the time and has no hyper-threading.
2600 = Not a bad choice! But Lineup Easy to understand..? I think Not (I can understand the lineup, but for someone that dosn't know the tech?) Below Just the Ryzen 5 lineup (all 6t/12t): 1600 (the first AE) 1600X 1600 AF (= R5 2600 with 100 MHz lower all core boost clock >> Best Value R5) 2600 2600X 3600 (best Value Zen 2 CPU) 3600X (if you wanna spend more for objectively the "same" as above) 3600XT (if you wanna pay the X price @2019 in 2020 for again objectively the same) AND.. there are more Ryzen 5's. Yep, that's the only reason I went intel for my new CPU. The 5.1 GHz on the i5 9600k was just too good to pass up, especially with VR becoming more popular. A similar AMD setup was around the same price, but it just couldn't push the same amount of power.
I don't hate Intel, but they must recognize that they aren't the monopolist anymore.

First PC that was mine and not a family system was a IBM PS/2 286 with a 256k VGA graphics card, 1MB of RAM and a 40mb hard drive (I think). Since then I've built just as many AMD desktop CPU-based systems as Intel ones. I worked it out a little while ago, I think Intel is in the lead by 1 right now, but I'm packing AMD while I type this, so.... yeah.

Fun fact, it wasn't firestone's fault their tires were blowing out. Firestone gave ford a recommended air pressure to run the tires at, and ford ignored their recommendation and set the tire pressure way too low, for a better ride, causing the tires to blow out. Not enough pressure for the weight on the tires. You can see that those ford explorers before the issue was addressed, say 26 psi in the tires. The updated explorer wanted 32 psi in the tires.

Biggest reason: stability
Including gaming, one game was known to brick computers because of bad drivers and the immature chiplet design. They patched it, but it wasn't something that they would have to worry about with Intel.
What game?
S85B50 Engine Minecraft
@@S85B50Engine Space engineers was what i was talking about, but ive heard people have issues with almost every game that was older than the chiplet design itself, even if it was as little as a few seconds older
Edit: think of it this way, multithreaded support is already hard enough to implement, now you have to worry about timings between chiplets and lost data or degraded data or latency induced by the fact that they arent one monolithic chip (even though its tiny, think of the fact that these chips do MULTIPLE INSTRUCTIONS AT BILLIONS OF TIMES A SECOND, mistakes add up very quickly at that scale)
Most common reason I've heard over the years was down to AMD having sub-par driver support and issues over multiple generations. That was my personal experience too when I gave AMD a shot in the past, though I've not used them for years now and would be more than willing to reconsider them should they demonstrate these issues are genuinely behind them.

This. I've recently been looking into a new rig, and years ago AMD was absolute garbage. Surprised to see how much has changed.
@@Morgormir they're still pretty garbage, only the army of fanboys will viciously defend it.
They even started outright lieing about ryzrn to justify their purchases(buyer's stockholm), claiming it's better for every workload or "even beats it in gaming".
This is a lie. Both jayz and steve from gn benchmarked the comparable hardware and intel beats it in every game by so much as 30 fps. Just so you know, 20 fps is usually a GPU upgrade, so it's nowhere near 2 to5 fps like the amtards claim.
I'm not trying to push you into buying something, just to warn you there's a lot of nonsense being spoken about ryzen with the clear intention of boosting sales or justifying a personal purchase(confirmation bias).
As for production, to this day a large number of apps works better on the "bad guy" intel.

Pancho507 yeah let’s say it like this most people in IT have heard about AMD Epyc by now, but that doesn‘t mean the finance department has and convincing them is always the hardest. Most of the time they don‘t even know what why the IT needs a new server already, since the 10 year old stuff still works.

Why would I care about marketing? I don’t buy marketing, I buy processors...

Hell, I've been using my Ryzen 7 2700x with a mediocre X470 motherboard since August, 2018, running it almost 24/7 doing all kinds of things (running VMs, writing code, playing latest hardware demanding games, etc.) and I'm yet to experience ANY issues, being it BSoDs, lock ups or something else.
Amd GPUs drivers are the problem and what ppl complain about.. There CPUs are definitely the best bang for buck
@rockn roll How? The minimal benefits from intel CPU's for gaming isn't worth the inflated prices. 5 FPS for $200 more is laughable at best. PPD is far better with Ryzen.
I have always used Intel CPU for the past 15 years. This year I got my first AMD CPU purely for the sake of budget. I built the best bang for the buck system I could. So far so good. I am happy with it. My father built a top tier AMD at the time a decade ago. Wasn't as good as the Intel, but it did the job well. This was my inspiration for my 2020 build.
Same here. Have used Intel for the last ten years, and never have given AMD even any chances. Now, after careful study about the current situation regarding AMD and Intel, I decided to buy AMD Ryzen 3600x processor for my new build. Even when I started to look for parts for the system, it took couple of months for me to begin to think objectively about CPU´s. And after that brand loyalty was gone, it was evident that AMD had the goods this time.
Been using the rig for 6 months now and couldn‘t be more satisfied. Everything worked right out of the box perfectly, and the system is solid as a rock stability-wise.
Very pleased with AMD.
I've been considering my first AMD build, my brother in law built one about a 15 years ago. It didn't keep up with my Intel (Pentium 4 xp era) but it was a great pc.
I think Not (I can understand the lineup, but for someone that dosn't know the tech?)
Below Just the Ryzen 5 lineup (all 6t/12t):
1600 (the first AE)
1600X
1600 AF (= R5 2600 with 100 MHz lower all core boost clock >> Best Value R5)
2600
2600X
3600 (best Value Zen 2 CPU)
3600X (if you wanna spend more for objectively the "same" as above)
3600XT (if you wanna pay the X price @2019 in 2020 for again objectively the same)
AND.. there are more Ryzen 5's. A few 4c/8t and one 6c/6t
Feels like you got amd because you want a Good deal or might be on budget. I got an i9 9900k wich fit all my needs and i got the money to support it.
@@Wushu-viking I feel like intel is way more complex than AMD. Intel has the normal non-k's, then the k's, then the f, then the ks, then the random x-series. Yes you listed a bunch of Ryzen 5 cpu's but you also listed all of their current generations and when even looking at most basic info on those processors it's stated what generation it is. Intel also does a good job of listing their generations. But, intel has 6 pages of their different i5 processors on their website, where you listed out all of the ryzen 5 varients in a couple of lines. And do not forget that it isn't very difficult for consumers to differentiate between Ryzen 3, 5, and 7, as it's the same marketing set up as intel. I do not think you are wrong by any means that understanding the differences in cpu's is hard to somebody who doesn't know much about computers, but I do not agree with the fact that AMD's line up is hard to understand in comparison to intel's.
