    Two minutes later: I guess I'll soak like a half cup of almonds.

    I think you should try cooling the potatoes completely before blending them cause the heat activates the starches from the potatoes while blending which makes the "milk" slimy, then after straining you let the milk sit for atleast 30 minutes so that the starches settle at the bottom so you can separate the "milk" from the strach.

  • @chrissquarefan86
    @chrissquarefan86 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    Fun fact, cooked potato starch is one of the few starches that keep their sticky and slimy texture for a long time, even if you use it in baked goods. You should make vegan choux with it, I can give you the "SECRET RECIPE" and you must do it and react to it!

    • @extropiantranshuman

      potatoes are also really watery. I bet the unripe potato is powdery enough to make a horchata. Raw potatoes are able to be juiced, and raw potato starch is a resistant starch. If you remove these - then you're left with protein - which I bet makes a great milk if not tofu.

    • @chrissquarefan86
      @chrissquarefan86 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here it goes:
      Sift together 70g brown rice flour with 30g buckwheat flour and 5g chickpea flour and mix evenly. Bring 125g water with 20g sugar and pinch of salt and 20g peanut oil to a boil then add the flours and mix well off the heat. Add this dough to a stand mixer and mix on medium until completely cooled down.
      Bring 200g high protein soy milk mixed with 20g potato starch to a boil whisking constantly until it thickens to the maximum capacity (should be a little elastic, cook more rather than less). Add 30g of peanut oil and blend very evenly with an immersion blender.
      Add this mixture to the cooled dough in about 4-5 parts mixing very well after each addition. It must be extremely well homogeneous.
      Add 2.5g of baking powder and mix very well.
      Preheat oven to 210C.
      Pipe small macadamia nut sized choice, make them tall rather than flat. The dough is sticky so use wet fingers to fix problems.
      Bake in the middle of the oven for 15 min at 210 then 30 min at 180.
      No substitutions of any kind and I don't know imperial system measurements so don't ask.
      This recipe looks simple but is in fact VERY difficult actually so GOOD LUCK!

    For making most PB milks you have to have ratio 1:10 so if you had like a 500g of potato and other stuf, you should add 5 litres of water. You aded like 1L at most. Also If you making potato or oat milk, you dont want to mix it very long, because too much starch will separate...

    I'm SO curious how this would go with sweet potato. Add pumpkin pie spice and you have the base for a sweet potato pie latte, which honestly sounds pretty good. Move over pumpkin spice lattes, sweet potato pie lattes are gonna be the new thing (or it'll just be disgusting, not sure which, yet).

    Really appreciate you finding ways to use the food waste in any way you can! A lot of youtubers just don’t acknowledge the potentially wasted food and what they might be doing with it (fingers crossed they’re donating or composting or doing something rather than trashing it) because we really don’t need more food waste out there

    • @RUNESANEINTHEBRAIN
      @RUNESANEINTHEBRAIN ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably best to compost the pulp at the end of the day though, not really sure what else you could really do with it, but I bet there are folks out there who know just the thing to do with it.

    • @kiwifeijoa
      @kiwifeijoa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using it all up, no waste, so important. My go to for most leftover veg, or nut pulp, put into strong flavoured soups and sauces, for grains and fruit leftovers, add into baking. They just disappear in there.

  • @MariaVana
    @MariaVana ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If you use this again for condensed milk you can take the pulp, add flour and salt and then form into small patties to be boiled. It's essentially the way my family makes potato dumplings and if it's sweet from the dates you can serve with a fruit syrup rather than the traditional gravy

    I haven't tried hone made potato milk. But I have bought some from the store. It wasn't that bad. Didn't taste like much. A wage powder consistenc. But I would buy it again. I have used it in a few sauces and I think it would be great to a long boil soup. I actually like that potato milk better then the most Almond milks I have tasted. I prefer oatmilk but if this one isent that diffrent from the one i tasted. I would drink it just like that. And to clarify. It defenetly wasn't that slimy. It had a pretty good consistency. Just bearly tasted like anything. Also why it is great for cooking. IDK of it is everywhere. I think it is a Swedish brand.
    Was fun seeing this though. I might try it and buy one to compare the two. I'll try to revisit this comment once I find the brands name.
    Good luck on future vids😄

    8:00 but what's wrong is putting it through a bag. Why not just eat as-is? I never understood the whole cheesecloth thing - I always eat my milks straight - no strainer. Bet this would be pretty nice with some sunflower - where it would decrease the sliminess. I bet it's coming from the almonds - which I also find slimy.

That said, about a year ago someone wrote me to say the Lomi was a scam, but I didn't understand their reasoning or trust their source. I don't know if you might have a stronger, better-backed opinion on the matter.

    probably has a thick, medicine, Milk of Magnesia taste. Think I'll skip this one. I'm sure your next recipe will succeed Merle.

    Makes no sense to me if I have to use almonds anyway, feels like I would be wasting the almonds. But anyway, I think you have used too little water.

    It's probably just me, I dunno but it kinda felt like your attitude in this video was pretty bad, like you complained nearly the whole time. You didn't have to make it if you really didn't want to.

    I knew it would just taste like a weak weak almond milk.... What I didn't know was how slimey it would be, and sitting in the macha tea.... 🤢🤢🤮🤮
