  • New for 2022 from NIU (pronounced 'new') electric scooter with a name you'd invent by playing scrabble in the dark; the MQi GT EVO, and our road tester Adam 'Chad' Child has been circumnavigating Peterborough to see what this 125cc equivalent can cope with.

    Change indicator sound. Push indicator right and hold (click click) immediately push left and hold (click click) then right and hold (click click). Keep doing this to cycle through different sounds!

    I love the idea of changing my bike to electric, switched the car 2 years ago, but I have been disappointed with the models I have ridden so far. The claimed range have not been achieved, including leaving me pushing the Sur Ron Storm Bee back to the dealer.
    I think this bike would be fine if I was just running around town, but the lack of storage does limit what chores can be done while there.
    If I were to buy an electric scooter it would need to be the equivalent of a Bergman or tmax that would be comfortable on the motorway provide storage and have reasonable weather protection and ergonomics.

    Love this video. Its great that there are city bikes now that can go 20kph over average city speed limits because that tells me it would go up a good hill at around 50kph without the rider having to pull over to the shoulder and annoy car drivers. Really exciting market and cheaper than quite a few e bicycles.

    My wife has an electric moped (styled like the Honda Grom). It does 50mph without issue. I agree with Bennetts on all points. A commuting tool, this is great.
    The biggest difference on this UK model and the Asia model... Is that batteries there are just "swapped out" on a monthly subscription. Especially in Taiwan where there are thousands of battery swap stations all over. So range there is never an issue. If we could adopt that model in the UK we would have a brilliant solution

      Been to Taiwan and lived there ,it all sounds great until you start spending ,it ads up and gets very expensive to rent those Gogoro scooters ,not to mention the parking and if you play around you WILL get fined ,on the other hand second hand scooters can be cheaper to buy there because there are so many riding them but the risk to end up in a crazy accident or even die - extremely high ,from 2022 to 2023 I've seen watched their news horrified at how many die on the street ,crossing the street..hell even on the pavement.

      @strawtalesandwonders Also been to Taiwan and lived there. Owned a scooter for around 3 years but was lucky with only one accident. Built the structure to a couple of skyscrapers and worked on a couple of bridge jacking projects... As a Civil Engineer. Also owned scooters and motorcycle in Hong Kong, K.L. and Singapore. As much as possible, in every country I work.... I ride a motorbike. I still commute 550 miles per week in and out of London... on a motorcycle. So it's fair to say, I have a few hundred thousand miles under my belt. And the current crop of Electric Motorbikes are stupidly expensive and charging is an issue. Hence battery swapping could be the option.

    This is why I don’t like the M series because of the batteries are under seat, although it can be added an rear box which is I don’t like it(my preferences) I prefer the N series. Has ways of modifying the battery compartment like putting them together if you’re an NGT owner to free up the bucket seat. Watching from Shanghai😁

    I have still to see an electric scooter that beats my Lifan E3. You don't really need to go faster than 50km/h (30mph) since its always used around town unless your mad or have a death wish. Already I see two big disadvantages with this bike. Virtually no under seat storage (where I keep my lock and rain gear) and that big bulky dash means you can't bring shopping bags on the handlebars and it would seem to make it impossible to fit a windscreen too. Also that bike stand sticks out alarmingly - that's just wide enough to hit off peoples feet in a crowed area when driving or parked.

    • @adams8594
      @adams8594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve got one and you’re right, that stand is ridiculous. There is apparently a windscreen available for it. I’d like a bit more space under the seat but I can fit my 2m 13mm Pragmasis Protector chain and two locks under there and probably waterproof trousers too. Biggest negative for me so far is that you are a bit tied to your dealer when there are any issues. Taking off the back wheel for a puncture repair is a ridiculous task (couple of videos of Niu rear tyre replacement process on TH-cam if you are interested). Could I take find a standard tyre or motorbike workshop who would touch mine.
      Biggest unexpected plus point is the cruise control. Thought I’d never use it with London roads so busy but use it all the time.

      Yes, but you can purchase fuel in practically any little town at any hour of the day. Put a gallon of gas in your scooter for $4 , drive for close to 65 miles. You can even carry a pint of gas with for just in case you run out and that will get you another 20 miles. That's what I do, I keep a pint and a half fuel safe bottle in my scooter and it's not there just for me but if I were to come across someone that needs it, I would give them the fuel so that they could get to a petrol station. You can't do that with a ev bike.

    Just wait until all the charging stations charge for the charge and it will be higher than gas.

      Then please charge it @ home. It is not meant to be for long distance ride, so I guess charging at once will do the trick.

      just wait until everyone is illegally tapping into free electricity from the grid to charge them because electricity costs too much.

    Useless now with the niu updates installed. Limiters on the power band , and once you on 50% battery , you basically get limited motor usage , youll drop efective dynamic mode wheter you want to or not. Useless .

    better if we go back to horseback riding mate, no wait a minute... grain and hay plus stable fees probably add up to more than a mortgage payment circa 2020. Alternative fuel is the only answer unless the government would subsidise the cost of electricity permanently for every household in the UK. Perhaps the government should have arranged the building and completion of several nuclear power plants before they shut down the coal power stations and left us all in fuel poverty. Never mind though, we can always buy an over priced electric scooter from china who our government commission to make all of our (co2 dirty) manufacturing processes these days.

    The speed they claimed is an absolute lie .I know someone who has one and he struggles to get to 50 mph but does do 60 mph DOWNHILL . Any hill and you will not get up to 40 mph ,Why so many lies about this joke of a bike .

      It's not a lie though is it. Considering I've had mine pinned at an indicated 69mph on a dual carriageway for a couple of miles.

    “And you don’t have to pay for fuel anymore” really? Where do you get electricity from for free?
    Stupid remark.
    Also with soaring energy costs Electricity has gone up almost a hundred percent while petrol has gone up about 25% yes electricity will be cheaper but in a class where 125cc scoots will all do well over 100 mpg I think the cost benefit is probably getting quite a bit thinner than it was!

    • @ianwarren
      @ianwarren ปีที่แล้ว

      @Scroatal Octopus so not free as claimed!
      Also ignoring the fact that electric vehicles are generally much more expensive that normal vehicles which electric proponents always forget about when figuring what their vehicles cost per mile, along with battery pack lifespan and replacement cost, rapidly increasing electricity costs outstripping the increasing petrol cost etc etc.
      Electric vehicles have a role and will become increasingly fly usable as range and battery capacity and lifespan goes up and weight down but let be honest about comparisons.

      I have a Niu Uqi Pro thats uses about 3kwh/100km
      Electricity is at almost 50c/kwh so about 1.5€
      Forza 125 gets like 2.5L/100km. Fuel is 2.05€/L. Thats more than 5€
      If you had a solar roof and electricity storage at home it would make sense even on the long run, but right now...not really imo
