Hey Captain I really do enjoy your videos I worked on the Western waterways for 28 years I loved every minute of it I got off the river 2014 and I have missed it ever since thank you for your videos keep them coming
I've been watching for over a year now, and it strikes me that this seemingly peaceful life is really a complex dance with the current and the silting of the River. Well done and carry on, Captain Kyle.
SO VERY REFRESHING AND AWESOME TO SEE A MAN LOVE HIS PROFESSION, KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS IT. REMINDS ME WHEN I WAS A HIGH RISE CONSTRUCTION IRON WORKER IN CHICAGO. WE CHANGED THE SKYLINE OF CHICAGO. ALWAYS APPRECIATE YOUR VIDS, CAPT. THANX A BUNCH
Finishing up the Great Loop in a 27’ boat. ( 6300 miles ) Enjoyed seeing all the monstrous tows on all the rivers. All pilots we communicated via radio with were top notch. Much respect. 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Man, that thing you said, always be willing to learn a different way. . . been living that quite a bit. Got fresh turned loose this year and been learning all kinds of new stuff, even from your videos. Thanks for postin these Capt, cool beans getting to see how other folks run a boat
That ol Detroit is LOUD! I was hoping to hear the actual propulsion engines, but that ol Detroit drowns em out quite a bit, but from what I can tell they sound like locomotive engines.
Any you towboaters remember a old deckhand his name was Sam Ryan. He lived in Cape Girardeau and worked for Arrow Transportation. He was a deckhand for probably 40 years, died years ago
hey capt kyle love watching your video was thinking about working on the river but I think I'm to old being a deckhand is for the younger guys would you say that's correct
Well hello captain, ,,how the hell are you,,,like always very interesting, how old is that dam boat that's a dang old timer there,,,, cool video keep them coming my brother
We would call the "Stuff" in the water around our ship(s) [ USS Canberra CAG-2, USS Dahlgren CG-29, and USS Jouett CG-29 ] " Flotsam ". After a hurricane there could be miles of Debris and Flotsam.
In your honest opinion would you take a 18 or 20’ Deep V hull fishing boat on the river around St Louis to Cairo area or would you say that’s to small of a boat for that much river?
marktwained awesome, hopefully within a year I’ll be able to get one. I’ve fished her banks for about 10 years and actually grew up boating on big lakes and smaller rivers. Even a big lake though doesn’t compare with the moving water and the drift like you were talking about in this video. I think for awhile when she’s at action and flood stage I would stay off it & fish the bank 😁
We enjoy flashing the river boats at night from the river banks with not only our high powered flashlights but our trucks with light bars just to mess with them. We always hope they’ll shine us with their big light lol!!! What do y’all think of people like us? 😂
Thankyou Sir. So cool so cool always nice to see you impressed. Your have been around to so if you are impressed I am lessening... the views are always enjoyed . . Don't worry I'm the last to make comments on how you do business/tellyou to fix something. I appreciate the opportunity to see some of what you see. That bottle is an molasses or syrup bottle . Thanks again lOOking forward to your next video. Byebye
I can’t speak for them however what we do when stuff gets in the wheels you normally knock it out of gear and reverse for a moment or two for the hope that it’ll get out of the wheel then you continue forward
At least up here in the Chicago area those barrel shaped bottles were Mickey's Big Mouths. Though I haven't seen one of those since my late teens/early 20s
My paycheck keeps me from nit picking on what boat I ride. And I actually enjoy this ole girl. She handles 15 barges like a dream. The galley is actually about as updated and as nice as they come. 👍🏻
Captain stop saying them numbers like that,,that's gone give you bad mojoe ,,are bad voodoo, ,are some bad luck,,,,Marie la voe,,,is gone get you ,,lol

As a truck driver living on the road I enjoy watching your videos on living on the river

Thanks for the great video
What a cool job thanks for bringing us along.
Capt Kyle, I have talked with quiet a few Riverboat Captains. And they say your are one of the best on the river.. Now pat yourself on the back.
I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best. A little rubbed off on me, thankfully.
Thank you for the compliment. 👍🏻
That ol Detroit is LOUD! I was hoping to hear the actual propulsion engines, but that ol Detroit drowns em out quite a bit, but from what I can tell they sound like locomotive engines.
Man you left your apples and orange on the deck! Love the videos
They were still there when I returned six hours later. Haha 👍🏻. Was wondering if that was noticed.
The big rigs of the river ways!! Keep on steaming guys!!
The bottle is a Piels Real Draft beer bottle. Piels is long since gone.
I’ve rode that old girl a lot over the years and it’s definitely a good steering ol boat!
The bottle that you were looking at was a wide mouth barrel root beer bottle that was out in the 70 and early 80s
Ok, I give up. Why is/was it so unusual that your relief took the center of the Bridge? Normally would you take the side, to make the turn?
Just curious, on average, what is the difference in travel speed going down river vs. up river. I am sure it varies by location and river level.
ThankQ

Wonder how many board feet that old sharpener has chewed up. Lol
Thanks for another good video!
So, do you work for a tow company? You said one time that you are on a different boat each trip. Who schedules what boat you are on and when?
are trhere any bridges that have har turbulence around them?are they hard to stere a tow through? love river rides
hey capt kyle love watching your video was thinking about working on the river but I think I'm to old being a deckhand is for the younger guys would you say that's correct
Question on average how miles can you make in a shift with a full tow like going north?
Is the strb towknee flag on a pike pole?
how does the slide meter you were talking about work?
I gives sideways speed
We use to fish on the Mississippi up near red wing Minnesota. Always caught tons of fish behind barges. Some left a pretty good wake behind them.
Enjoy your videos!
THAT is one Small wheel house 😱😳👍
I’m pretty old now but I haven’t seen a pinsel sharpener like that before 😳🤔🤭✅
Which vessel was you on?
Well hello captain, ,,how the hell are you,,,like always very interesting, how old is that dam boat that's a dang old timer there,,,, cool video keep them coming my brother

How do you feel about Blessey Marine? I'm hopefully starting my first deckhand job there in a month now.
Good company from what I hear. 👍🏻

If you are experienced with the vessel, and familiarize yourself with area and prevailing conditions, it is something that can be done.
That’s about as big as any of our outboard skiffs are, and we used them quite often for crew changes and such.

Great videos and that old pencle sharpener gotta last at least a nuther 30 years haha
The one and only Tate O 😂 if he would just do what he wanted to do and put a second deck back on that old boat it would be so much nicer!! 👌👍

I’d prolly be there with y’all. 🤷🏼♂️👍🏻
Schmidt Beer big mouth brewery in St. Paul MN along by the river pretty cool.
That's a sterling wide mouth beer bottle... don't see many of them anymore for sure.
Patent-pending doesn't mean it has a patent, it means the patent application has been applied for and it is pending approval.

It would be interesting to see what you do to flush the wheels out.
Yes Dan he needs to explain that one.
I can’t speak for them however what we do when stuff gets in the wheels you normally knock it out of gear and reverse for a moment or two for the hope that it’ll get out of the wheel then you continue forward
