Glad to see you resumed posting Captain Kyle !! Been following you since the day you saved that pushboat in the St. Louis harbor from sinking! A true professional among the best in the maritime community…..
Hey Capt really informative video and could see by your description there are a lot of parts of the river that certainly need plenty of consideration for a safe passage, really great thanks Capt.
“And the terrified voice from the bow, having thrown and the read the sounding line, turned to the bridge and screamed, ‘by the mark-twain’” - his eyes filled with terror knowing the violent grounding was surely coming.”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If a squirrely navigation spot holds your attention as an experienced Captain, I can't imagine the degree of stress such a spot would cause, for you when you were a newly minted Captain with little experience---especially, if it involved night running, with foul weather and compromised optical visibility involved. Thank you for sharing another excellent video.
It can be stressful, for sure. I kinda let my mouth go in these situations where I’m making videos. I try and tell what I’m thinking. I really was never in any serious jeopardy. My thoughts and words tend towards the extreme. A little effect for camera type deal. 🤷🏼♂️👍🏻
@@marktwained You do not waste words, Captain Kyle. I really enjoy the thoroughness with which you explain things. Its part of the reason that all of your videos are so enjoyable to watch.
I enjoyed the walk on the barges. One question popped up. I know barges come in different lengths but when you started on the barges most were the same length - different mfg - but there seemed to be NO standard position set for the the cleats. But that was my first walk around.
You are correct. They are different types of barges in this tow. We were pushing for various companies with this tow. It’s called “tramping” in the industry. We had different barges with different fittings. It is fairly common practice. 👍🏻
Yea, taking the road less followed. Used to do that in Matagora Bay, north of the bouys, no traffic. Gotta dive back in midway to avoid the dredge berm. San Joaquin River through False River, Frank’s Tract, out at Old River cuts an hour off your time to/ from Stockton Ca. It’s stuff like that that separates the plotter watchers from the River Pilots. Just don’t get stuck! Everyone from Wycliff to Pilot-town will know! Bad news travels fast!
Fun shots capt...love the shot of the water boiling from behind those the barages very fun videos ...IS THE OLD GIRL (TUG).. FULL OF FUEL 🎉 ???????😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Captain WE hope our last Comments didn't upset you ...We just thick those big Tows of yours are Exciting THE walk up to the front of barage was pretty Special to us ....
You used to rent them. Just put it on the console and plug it in. It was a small gyro that was a c driven SwingGuard Route 2 Box349 Killen, Alabama 35645 Almost every boat aI was on in the 80s and 90s had one. I’m just wondering if they are still out there. It was the only way you could navigate in the fog together with your radar.
Oh wow those shots of you walking on the barages were fun BE cool if you make them a feature on your videos......"THE CAPTAIN WALKS"...so we can watch the barages Bow waves😊😅😅😮😢🎉😂❤❤ The excitement ..😊😊
@@marktwained i never realized that good point. There seems to be a giant eagle nest every 1/4 mile or so in the flats of upper peoria lake, so its been an assumption for years and their not bashful .Thanks for the insight capt.
If you got enough water to float em where you are, I’m suprised that the upbound doesn’t take that route, short over the ground and he’s not fighting the current. That’s the boat that would benefit the most. You have the current on your ass so idk. As they say, “Your mileage may vary!”
Only those that know do it. I do it if there is an incentive. Some companies prefer running in channel, some companies make money with wheelmen that make miles with experience. It not a situation where I’m “getting away with something”. Everyone is aware of how I operate, and I operate within rules of whoever is paying me.
Walking the tow is good exercise and you need to look at everything cuz if it comes apart YOU are responsible. I know that the deckhands do it every watch but just in case… It’s also gonna keep you healthy. Sitting in that seat for 6 hrs. is a ride to a heart attack. Do they still rent Swinguards?
The CAPTAIN walk Tò The bow Wave " "It be Exciting new features TO add to your Exciting videos ...BE A FUN DAY TO ADD TO "THINGS TO DO. You're most welcome.
When you are new and inexperienced in any trade you are usually naive to the risks.

Hi Captain ⚓️ from landlocked Iowa USA 🇺🇸
Is that bow and tow depth. Wow Florida Joe

Keep up the good work capt
I bet the cap’n’s one way street was blocked up tight when the sounder was reading one foot and change.

Rodger, now I’m on the same page. My bad…
Keep making miles!
Love this!
Just go off the flow and peace out
I'm here for the eagles nest, third time 4 me
Theres a ton of eagles by starved rock locks and Marseilles locks on the illinois
i live on the illinois and believe the asian carp has alot to do with the eagle resurgence capt
The banning of DDT is what saved them. The invasive species may be a food supply, but the bad outweighs the good on the carp deal.

As Chris Rock said in his Police video. " I wouldn't do dat shit if I were you".
I ain’t Chris, and this ain’t da police. 👍🏻😉
when are you going back to the river ?
If you got enough water to float em where you are, I’m suprised that the upbound doesn’t take that route, short over the ground and he’s not fighting the current. That’s the boat that would benefit the most. You have the current on your ass so idk.
As they say, “Your mileage may vary!”
I was northbound in shortcut. 👍🏻
So even Boats like to take Shortcuts but at least you Don’t have to worry about the PoPo handing out a ticket.
Well, no PoPo if you make it. Pop a few wires and send a couple spinning down the river, well, then you have some splainin' to do....

Will the towboater ever be back on u tube

Do they still rent Swinguards?
You are definitely correct. Exercise is necessary. I let it lax for a bit, but fortunately turned that around. 👍🏻
Not sure what swinguards are?
Cap when you get back to the boat that has new power plants give us a tour of the engine room
CAPT., WHAT RIVER MILE ?
I wish you'd keep one video at the same time
I was wondering what happened to you Captain Kyle.Just viewed your video
lots of Eagles at Lock 19
Who’s watching depths if your out walking the barges?
Nobody constantly watches the sounder. Knowing the river is my job. I do it well without constantly watching a monitor or meter.
I use more than just my eyes.
I have ears, and I feel, and even smell things.
It’s a use of all my senses and tools to navigate the river.
Drive it like you stole it.
