Funny story Kurt. One day I was driving through Kankakee Illinois and my 1965 Kenworth cabover and the universal joint went out right on the bridge about 100 yards from the Kenworth dealer. To make a long story short I was too poor to have it towed off the bridge so I walked down to the dealer and bought a universal joint and put it on while sitting on the bridge, a policeman came by and asked me if I was OK and I said Yes I will have it fixed in about an hour or less and he said OK just be careful and he went on. A sidenote I do not believe that a policeman would do that today he would make you call a wrecker and get it off the bridge.
Who would have guessed that a TH-cam channel that I just ran across one day would have introduced me to such a good person. You are truly one of the good people in this world. Thanks for sharing your time with us.
Don’t be so hard on yourself Kurt. Machines break, it’s inevitable. You did what you had to do, got your load delivered, and got home safe and sound. I call that a win. 👍 Keep it up! Thanks
Kurt, everything in life is temporary my man, keep your chin up. This too shall pass. Also, nothing wrong with your truck, the old girl has plenty of character to her! Keep on trucking buddy!
The new trucks are headaches because of the fuel Management technology, plastic and the thousands of sensors in trucks and cars. Today's people can't work in heat, and can't live without a computer and cell phone. Your rig is what most driver's like. No EGR, no DEF tank, a good solid rig.
The town's in Kansas are great! You are so right Kurt! I love this country! I'm worried what is going on right now in my country..Patriots rock🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Your truck is the bomb💥💥
Keep your head up buddy! You need to take some time for your self make your self happy before you can make others happy! Few years back I went from liking trucking to absolutely hating life every time I got into the truck. I ran with a flat drive tire for over a month had 0 motivation to fix anything my truck looked like crap. Shortly after I stopped driving and fast forward a few years later to today I run my own business and own a fleet of trucks. It all works out in the end just got to keep up on your self first.
You did exactly what I would have done with what you have to work with! I can't tell you how many times I have come in on a wing and a prayer 😅. You make do with whatever you have. I would still rather have an old reliable old school truck than a new one that has all the computer junk ! At least we could fix it ourselves with wire and tarp straps and whatever else we could find. Had to take alternate route many times to avoid scale and dot 😂. You have a great truck to be proud of.!!! God bless and we'll catch you on the flip side 👍
Man, that brings back memories. I did that run more times than I can count in the 70s and early 80s. Both refer and pots. I lived in Abilene for 60 years.
Always keep that sense of humor and as positive an attitude as you possibly can until you get home to that beautiful family. Then just wrap your arms around each one of them and feel the love. They will always have your back. Much love and respect from Canada. ♥🇨🇦

My saying was if you ain't driving her you better be under her or she will lay down. Like the saying goes pay me now or pay me later. Later maybe very bad.
The town that I grew up in has a by-pass. The way the crow flies, about 3 miles from my house. I used to sit on the porch at night and listen to the trucks running the By-pass. It has a couple of hills and trucks usually have to shif a couple of times. You truck has the sound I always loved. Right before shifting, you hear the bellow of the exhaust and the CAT. Late in the evening it always had a lonely sound moving on down the road.

Just started watching your channel. Really enjoying it. My brother was trucker for many years. Am understanding some of his frustrations now. I am retired from nursing after 45 years. Don't be so hard on yourself. I missed many holidays, ballgames etc. We do what we have to do. Anyway keep on trucking. I am enjoying the ride.

Another awesome video thanks for sharing Kurt. It’s nice see you rolling more.taking more loads.Keep up those awesome videos I sure do appreciate god bless.Make me list grab what you need I come down for week work on truck stay safe thanks buddy
Great videos. Love First Class. I used to drive what was considered local for 5 years. Springfield Missouri to West Memphis or to Tulsa or to Kansas city or st Louis haul animal feed to mom and pop stores. Loved doing it but was able to get a job jockeying trlrs for a plant in Springfield. I miss being on the road though. Be safe and keep it upright.
I've got a few comments right off the bat: I was delivering a load of house logs to Heber, Utah, my cell died found a payphone at a old gas station, which would have worked but someone yanked the wires out. Those band clamps I've found a napa, car quest, and half the truck stops I've stopped at. What do you think they "learned" in kansas- must be big to name a town after it.
At least the stack didn't fall completely off and you had to chase it in a ditch or something. Time for a set of 8" straights lol. Glad you made it home brother. Look forward to the next video.
That look on your face when the reefer started was priceless. And the truck is there to drive, work, and make money. Of course things are going to break. It wasn't bought to be yard art :)
Good video but sorry man I bust out laughing when I saw the beautiful bows you tied with those straps and the look on your face was a Kodak moment even with all the trials you manage to stay calm and jovial, thanks bro for the positive vibes you give.
my heart goes out to you Kurt for what you are trying too do with being a family man and a truck driver. but I have been watching and hearing in your voice since you started doing the short trips trying too be home for every game and every tryout and just everything your kids are into and don’t get me wrong that is a very noble idea but you have two great kids that are into a bunch of different sports and other events too where you basically feel guilty if you aren’t home five nights a week and gone two days a week and it is totally eating you up even when you are home you aren’t getting rest and time too recover and reboot for the next week and you end up pretty much driving all over taking the kids too get something they need or want and going too ball games or trap shooting matches or band competitions and then at the last minute you need too rush around and get groceries and other things you need for the week in first class and get he ready and still try and be a husband and spend time with warden and you end up driving all night after you are completely burned out from the prior week and pretty much going nonstop while you were home and you mentioned a couple videos ago about if you are home for awhile you find yourself trying too hide from the family. I can see when you are on the road all you can do is think about getting back home then when you are home you are thinking about being back on the road so you can be home again for the next ballgame and you definitely don’t have any time to work on first class doing even the minor little things that can save you a lot of money as an owner operator. it is eating you up. your son and daughter are old enough too understand how it takes money to live and be able too have fun and you have too work in order to make that money and the job or profession that you like and are good at requires you too be gone and maybe only make half the games but it will allow you too slow down and enjoy your family time on the weekends or whenever you choose too be home maybe it is two week days so you can go to a game of both of the kids but I don’t think you can continue trying too be everywhere at once and not enjoying being anywhere. and I agree you can’t make enough money right now hauling grain locally so you could be home every night and if you got off the road and took a job punching a time clock especially a inside job like factory work it would tare you up even more and you would start resenting your family IMHO you just need to admit you are human and you can’t be everywhere you want too be it doesn’t make you less of a father or husband and I believe it will lead to you and them enjoying the time you can spend together much more
You still have an awesome truck, just needs a little tlc right now. Didn't see much of Opie this go around, he must have been ready to be home also. Your family videos are the best so keep up the good work. Hope you get first class fixed okay.
All thanks to Dr Uzoya on TH-cam for helping me with his herbs to cure my Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, right now I'm now cured from Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis dr Uzoya, He is the best doctor I ever meet he is real and can trusted, you can contact him now ans thanks me later, his Whatsapp number is +2348112931254 or email druzoyaherbal@gmail.com He also have the solution for the following diseases. 1, Diabetes 2, herpes 3, Cancer 4, HIV and AIDS 5, Multiple Sclerosis 6, Relationship problem 7, Lupus etc..,
Keep.your head up, glad you made it home safe. I feel what you're saying on the family doing stuff without you. It does hurt. Look forward to seeing 1st class all fixed up. Like they say , ain't nothing finer than a w9. Be safe and have a good weekend
You shoulda' put a couple of straps on the driver's side to make it match :P Don't feel too bad about it, Kurt. Shat happens. I take real pride in keeping all of my vehicles (2 pickups, 2 bikes, a car and a Heep) in top notch condition. I let my daughter take my '94 Ram to work one day about 10 years ago. When she got there she called to tell me that "the muffler fell off as I was going down the road". I went to check it out while she was working (I was worried it'd screwed up the turbo somehow), and it wasn't quite as bad as she'd made it sound... but sure enough -- the exhaust had completely broken off right at the back of the muffler and was almost dragging the ground at the front of the broken pipe (the rear hanger was still attached so it kind of balanced itself on the rear axle which kept it from dragging). After wiggling it out from under the truck, I tossed it in the back and (since the muffler was still securely mounted) I ran it that way for a month or so until I could order a new exhaust. Then there was the time we re-mounted a friend's front diff (IFS rig) with a few heavy duty zip ties so he could make the 60 mile trip back home lol As far as the family going out and having fun while you're working... Been there, done that (back when I worked weekend grave). Seems like a lifetime ago now, but it still bothers me when I think about it.
It's normal to miss your family and your home life. I'd question if you didn't. This is back to what you were talking about a few videos ago about the sacrifices we make to be in trucking. There's weeks I dislike it but it is hard to make this kinda money and construction has gone by this old body. Stay safe Kurt.
Props to you for being able to secure the stack without destroying the paint (hopefully), and thank God it didn't fly off the truck and potentially cause harm/damage. Truck diver ingenuity will always reign supreme! Went through council bluffs this morning since you were talking about how awesome the new road project was. Does it really get that crowded in that town that they need an express lane? Or are they future thinking? Cheers!
It’s just part of trucking. She old working girl, things are bound to break. Do hope you’ll seriously consider (now as good time as any) getting new exhaust and perhaps two new stacks. How many miles is on the truck and engine? Can’t say she hasn’t earned her keep. She asking you for new exhaust and pies. Ask her. I’m sure she Jake brake talk back she want new parts heh. Yes First class still looking good with that sunset. Good video as always and stay safe :)
Engine has just shy of 500,000 and truck is almost at 2 million. Problem is , if I go new exhaust I'm going with quiet exhaust lol. I think I would have some mad subs lol.
Things break, sadly. It's a shame that Pride in your ride costs so much🤣. Shes a beautiful truck with a great owner. Don't feel too bad stuff happens. Keep your spirits up, and be safe.
I know that pain, I had my w9 do that a month ago except my upper part. 5 foot of stack timbered onto I-5. I had to replace everything all the way from to to under the truck every bracket I removed just led to more rust holes
I've got a working pay phone in my house. (land line for DSL internet and business) Coin-op is disconnected inside. Works great! . That exhaust job looks a bit much for my repair of aluminum foil, a beer can and band clamps. You could use a roll of aluminum foil, a coffee can and a daisy chain of band clamps. Safe travels and God bless.
Don’t be to hard on yourself for not being home for everything that goes on. Time will work it’s way out , I have 3 kids I worked all the time seemed like I was missing everything but I made it to what I could and all the big stuff. I worked 5,6,7 days a week and at least 3 or 4 of them were 16 hr. shifts in a factory. Well I’m 59 yrs old and been retired for 4 months, kids are grown but all live right next to us on the farm.So now is my time with them and the grandkids !!!! Live the best life God has given you !!
Ya, the truck still looks good, but going to crap in a hand basket slowly. I know u will get her fixed up and looking awesome again soon, keep the vids coming and keep the shiny side up.

You look so tired when you finally got home, first class will be all good. You looked upset about missing the activities at home, and we don’t blame you, so with that happening it seemed to dampen your day, don’t blame ya. I haven’t seen a pay phone for years, I was able to show my son one at a gas station, he was maybe 5-6 years old and then it was gone. We love watching your videos and we will still watch them whether you are home or trucking… thank you for sharing your day with us, hi to Mr. Opie the boss😊🐾🦮🚚

This a great vlog. I would never drive to this area in Kansas. Thank you. Have a great weekend and please be safe.
Totally awesome commitment you do to make no time happen.
That look on your face when the reefer started was priceless.
And the truck is there to drive, work, and make money. Of course things are going to break. It wasn't bought to be yard art :)
That Army Tank is a M 60 A1 I drove one 1970s 🇺🇲👍
Nice as always thank you
Thanks Donnie! Love our warriors, past and present. Have a great day and God bless you!
Thank you for your service!!!!!!🇺🇸
how old where you then?
I knew when you stopped
It was the stack
I procrastinate on my vehicle maintenance and it bites me too
Hope you get it fixed this weekend
I hope you got parts New Kws cant even get sleeper door windows and 5th wheels... Doh!!!
Good video but sorry man I bust out laughing when I saw the beautiful bows you tied with those straps and the look on your face was a Kodak moment even with all the trials you manage to stay calm and jovial, thanks bro for the positive vibes you give.
Lol. Ya they were beautiful weren't they .
my heart goes out to you Kurt for what you are trying too do with being a family man and a truck driver. but I have been watching and hearing in your voice since you started doing the short trips trying too be home for every game and every tryout and just everything your kids are into and don’t get me wrong that is a very noble idea but you have two great kids that are into a bunch of different sports and other events too where you basically feel guilty if you aren’t home five nights a week and gone two days a week and it is totally eating you up even when you are home you aren’t getting rest and time too recover and reboot for the next week and you end up pretty much driving all over taking the kids too get something they need or want and going too ball games or trap shooting matches or band competitions and then at the last minute you need too rush around and get groceries and other things you need for the week in first class and get he ready and still try and be a husband and spend time with warden and you end up driving all night after you are completely burned out from the prior week and pretty much going nonstop while you were home and you mentioned a couple videos ago about if you are home for awhile you find yourself trying too hide from the family. I can see when you are on the road all you can do is think about getting back home then when you are home you are thinking about being back on the road so you can be home again for the next ballgame and you definitely don’t have any time to work on first class doing even the minor little things that can save you a lot of money as an owner operator. it is eating you up. your son and daughter are old enough too understand how it takes money to live and be able too have fun and you have too work in order to make that money and the job or profession that you like and are good at requires you too be gone and maybe only make half the games but it will allow you too slow down and enjoy your family time on the weekends or whenever you choose too be home maybe it is two week days so you can go to a game of both of the kids but I don’t think you can continue trying too be everywhere at once and not enjoying being anywhere. and I agree you can’t make enough money right now hauling grain locally so you could be home every night and if you got off the road and took a job punching a time clock especially a inside job like factory work it would tare you up even more and you would start resenting your family IMHO you just need to admit you are human and you can’t be everywhere you want too be it doesn’t make you less of a father or husband and I believe it will lead to you and them enjoying the time you can spend together much more
HI Mike! YOU are so right. That's one of the problems of being a truck driver. I did it for 23 years.
Ya they are definitely a busy crew
You still have an awesome truck, just needs a little tlc right now. Didn't see much of Opie this go around, he must have been ready to be home also. Your family videos are the best so keep up the good work. Hope you get first class fixed okay.
He was ready
@28:55 LMFAO. Nothing personal, been there done that. That's trucking baby! O/O fixing sh*t on the fly. Nicely done.

Keep.your head up, glad you made it home safe. I feel what you're saying on the family doing stuff without you. It does hurt. Look forward to seeing 1st class all fixed up. Like they say , ain't nothing finer than a w9. Be safe and have a good weekend
First Class looks pretty with orange ribbons 🎀 in her hair. 😁
You shoulda' put a couple of straps on the driver's side to make it match :P
Don't feel too bad about it, Kurt.
Then there was the time we re-mounted a friend's front diff (IFS rig) with a few heavy duty zip ties so he could make the 60 mile trip back home lol
As far as the family going out and having fun while you're working... Been there, done that (back when I worked weekend grave). Seems like a lifetime ago now, but it still bothers me when I think about it.
my Dad always said that if the wind didn't blow in Kansas all the farmers would fall down!! I was born and raised in Kansas,
Was a weekend warrior song for State. No I do not like the flatness lol
kasas is a lovely place to be ,but i hear the rats there are big as a cat lol
It's normal to miss your family and your home life. I'd question if you didn't. This is back to what you were talking about a few videos ago about the sacrifices we make to be in trucking. There's weeks I dislike it but it is hard to make this kinda money and construction has gone by this old body. Stay safe Kurt.
True and thank you
@@truckingwithschmidt7120 just keeping it real brother.
You have a nice looking truck. Stay safe out there.
Cheers!
Ya, it was always a mess during rush hour on the old setup.
@@truckingwithschmidt7120
Sound like good plan. Will save your ears and your dogs ear on quieter exhaust. Thanks for reply and stay safe :)
As soon as your get her shined up and lit up like a christmas tree, you will feel better about trucking. Seeya next time.
Things break, sadly. It's a shame that Pride in your ride costs so much🤣. Shes a beautiful truck with a great owner. Don't feel too bad stuff happens. Keep your spirits up, and be safe.
Great video again Kurt!!
Get her fixed up and ready to roll! Enjoy your home time Kurt🙂
I went through Larned KS 4 months ago going up to Grand island to pickup a car I bought on Ebay Motors.
I like the looking back view with the window closed. Then you can imagine yourself in the cab.
Your music is inspiring
Another great video Kurt
Thank you
Such a beautiful rig
I know that pain, I had my w9 do that a month ago except my upper part. 5 foot of stack timbered onto I-5. I had to replace everything all the way from to to under the truck every bracket I removed just led to more rust holes
Ouch
I've got a working pay phone in my house. (land line for DSL internet and business) Coin-op is disconnected inside. Works great! . That exhaust job looks a bit much for my repair of aluminum foil, a beer can and band clamps. You could use a roll of aluminum foil, a coffee can and a daisy chain of band clamps. Safe travels and God bless.
Love that road that's where I go to Arizona every year
Don’t be to hard on yourself for not being home for everything that goes on.
Great to hear, enjoy retirement
Glad you've made it home! Hang in there!
Ya, the truck still looks good, but going to crap in a hand basket slowly. I know u will get her fixed up and looking awesome again soon, keep the vids coming and keep the shiny side up.

I know that route well. Drove it for many years
There's a phone booth in topeka KS at the greyhound bus stop.
You grabbed my fav choc milk. And yea that damn wind sucks so bad. Can't tell ya how many times it almost blew me over, scary.
Thank you as always , ya its hard to find them still working.
