Had a pretty similar experience 3 years ago, getting caught in a slide and pulled over a cliff and into the trees. Didn't sustain injuries that required as much surgery and rehab, but broke three ribs and collapsed a lung. Enough injuries to realize that mother nature called the shots that day and gave me a pass for my stupidity. I like what Roger says; "Everybody makes mistakes...". And I have the same feeling that I have to be out there, or else I could just as well passed away that day. I understand that other people take other choices after experiencing something like this, but for me calling it quits was never a choice. Returned to the very spot this year, and the way Roger reacted to being back was pretty much the same I felt. Eternally grateful for making it and eternally grateful to still being able to get after it - just a little bit wiser than before.
'Better to be lost to one's passion than to lose one's passion' I had a serious bike accident this year and am also intrigued when people question why I've continued to cycle since my recovery. As the man says, it's 50% of me. Great film.
Wow, so glad U're alive after a bad collision. Amazing story of your strength & courage 2 sontinue skiing after that incident. Thx 4 sharing on the internet. Keep on inspiring others, U're an inspiration.
I am a huge fan of everything duct tape then beer makes, I enjoyed all of their films for outdoor research and the films on this channel. I always find myself rest hong their videos and being filled with emotion every time. Thank you for capturing these powerful, humbling, and just epic stores in such an appropriate light. Amazing vid. I almost shit my pants when I saw it was shot at Snoqualmie pass, then again at the footage of the slot couloir... I live in North Bend and have been wanting to do that run for years now, never worked up the courage though :(
"There was over a foot of snow so we went to the place where we had never seen it slide before." There was over a foot of new snow. That slope was at the prime risk angle.
I really like that you are bringing your family into the wild. As a person who lives full time in the wild lands. I impart a bit of local know how. Bring an umbrella and also be the top of the food chain, not the bait.

Opportunity missed. This was a chance to discuss the decision making error and the causes of how such errors are commonly made.
More than 90% of all outdoor injuries are caused by a decision or a chain of decisions.
